Medical cannabis-anyone using this ?

I saw a poster in my local pharmacists window about a company called Sapphire. I spoke to the pharmacist who gave me the leaflet. I think I’d be approved as am on PIP and am under the care of rheumatology, pain clinic, and MSK dept and most painkillers I’m on just about take the edge of the pain when it’s at its worst.

The thing I’m wondering is if you take it through on of the NHS approved vapes, does it smell like normal weed? I live in flats with a no smoking, no drug taking clause in the tenancy and don’t want to be smelling the place out. They said it comes in drops or capsules in their info leaflet but wonder if they work as well. I’ve never smoked weed or tried CBD but if this would help when I have severe muscle spasms I’d definitely want to see if it helped. Any info, opinions would be very much appreciated.

It lasts much longer if you eat it. Which can be either a good or bad thing.

Posyapocalypse · 21/02/2023 23:50

Thanks Princess. That’s interesting. I don’t know why but I assumed if you inhaled it it would work best

I know nothing of that company but I live in USA and its legal in my state. I smoked low TCH, high CBD marijuana for years for my RA. Worked fabulously. In fact it was the only thing that did. It was like magic, I could literally feel the pain subsiding as I smoked it. Would be either pain free or very low pain for about 2 days after 1 joint
I quit smoking cigarettes 2 years ago, so no longer smoke that either. I found the chewables I got did nothing for me. Ive tried as few different things as my daughter is the marketing manager for one of the biggest dispensaries round here and gets $250 worth free a month and doesnt actually use it herself. Im hoping I just haven't found the right strength or something cos so far none of them worked.
I am scared to try smoking again in case I end up back on the butts as I smoked for 40 years before I quit

Posyapocalypse · 22/02/2023 00:15

I really hope you find a version other than smoking it that will be as effective for you theoldrout. It sounds like it really helped a lot. This company I think offers an approved vape to smoke the cannabis flower through. I wonder if that would work for you ?

Posyapocalypse, Oh I can get that too, its legal in every form here. I used to smoke anything that had a THC of less than 5% and as high CBDs I I could get. I dont like being high and that low of a THC didnt make me high. You do actually need a small % of THC for it to work apparently. I just dont want to inhale anything back into my lungs
Ive tried 3 different types of gummies, 3 chocolate flavors and 2 selters. Hvaent hit the magic combo yet in the edible department. hopefully I will soon.
I was just wanting you to know that smoking and inhaling it worked for me but eating it didnt.

Ladyzfactor · 22/02/2023 02:27

I use the vape frequently, both for pain and recreational. It has no real smell and I use it indoors. Edibles are good but go really slow with those at first. They can hit you hard.

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 22/02/2023 03:05

Ladyzfactor

where can you buy edibles legally in Uk thanks

EphraimMonk · 22/02/2023 10:05

This might be of interest, especially SconeCreamJam's post with a link to a review site on page 3.

I have used the company mentioned in the link several times now and can recommend them.

ladyzfactor. I’m really glad it doesn’t smell much.

Ephraimmonk. I’ll check that company out. Good to have a recommendation.

Bear in mind you'll still fail a police drug driving test a day or two after.

Posyapocalypse · 22/02/2023 20:58

PrincessPeach. Thanks for that. That’s really good and v important to be aware of. The times I’d be using it I’d be in so much pain I’d not be driving for a good few days.

Edibles are fantastic for my RA. Have one before I go to bed, sleep like a baby and can move in the morning. I do grow my own though.

@PrincessPeach92 makes a very valid point so please take note everyone if you are planning to drive or operate machinery etc.

I simply can't so forget it might be a problem for others.

Surely nothing the NHS endorses would require smoking?!

Edibles

NHS approved vapes though?

FriendofDorothy · 01/03/2023 12:39

Medical cannabis is usually prescribed in either oil or flower which is vapable.

If you smoke it then it isn't as directed on the prescription. People do though.

It's not a cheap option though.

KenMastersGoldBracelet · 01/03/2023 13:00

How soon are we realistically likely to get US-style dispensaries?
THC is so effective for chronic pain but I heard recently that some Tories were trying to get cannabis reclassified to Class A [eyeroll]

OneTC · 01/03/2023 13:11

Inhaling/vaping = quickest onset.

Ingested = longer duration, way more psychedelic, but also most likely to completely fuck you over as your dose is your dose, you can't reverse what you've eaten

TheUser420 · 01/03/2023 13:15

You can self-titrate much better smoking (or vaping). However the chemical breakdowns are different to ingesting it.

How soon are we realistically likely to get US-style dispensaries?

Never.

LittleBrownJug · 28/03/2023 11:27

I've just taken delivery of my first prescription from Sapphire. It's private medicine so it's not cheap, but if you participate in research you get lower costs. It's come in the form of oil, so you put it under your tongue. Two bottles; one CBD which doesn't get you high, then THC, but it's THC at low dose and you titrate up the THC until you find a combination that works for you. I already know it works for pain and sleep; this is me going legit to see if what they send me is better. It's regulated so I know exactly what's in it. However in spring/summer I do grow my own. I do agree with the links on the previous thread mentioned though!
