With laundry, just always keep on top of it

Totally agree! I put a load on in the morning before the school run, hang it up when I get back then each morning all I need to do is fold them (hardly iron anything now - just formal clothes and school uniform, which I or DH does on a Sunday).

AlwaysLatte · 22/02/2023 13:21

I do my crying in the shower so nobody sees me.
I hope you're ok and have someone in real life to talk to x

AlwaysLatte · 22/02/2023 13:23

I have a bulldog clip for each of the kids on the kitchen noticeboard with their school timetables and information letters about forthcoming trips etc. another clip for takeaway menus.

AlwaysLatte · 22/02/2023 13:25

Have a basket in the bottom of the airing cupboard. When the kids put something on and doesn't fit it goes straight in the basket
I do something similar. If it's not wanted or doesn't fit it does in a big F&M lidded basket that I was given. When full it the contents go to the charity shop.

AlwaysLatte · 22/02/2023 13:27

Also, I save all the pound coins I get, so if anyone needs parking change or money for school they can just grab it quickly.

AlwaysLatte · 22/02/2023 13:33

I have 10 narrow wipe clean ring binders for different types of recipes eg curries, vegetarian, family meals, Christmas, with plastic sleeves for each recipe. Only things that go in are tried and tested recipes that went down well.

Seaissofaraway · 22/02/2023 13:33

Don't iron anything
Wash, dry, hang
Or buy iron free clothes

Buy Xmas presents throughout the year

Have days where you eat the odd stuff that's hanging around in the food cupboard & freezer

quirkychick · 22/02/2023 15:09

@coodawoodashooda you're welcome! Wednesday is usually freezer dinner - taken from another thread - as it's the day before a supermarket shop, so it could be anything in the freezer.

@AlwaysLatte I have the same with the recipes in slim ring binders and the bulldog clips on the noticeboard.

I have lots of memo lists on my phone for easy glance: to do, wishlists etc.

When I swap seasonal clothes around I make a list of any gaps or items that need replacing so that I have a wishlist for next spring etc rather than rebuking stuff I already gave.

thisisasurvivor · 22/02/2023 17:02

These are sensational!!!!!!

And much needed right now 🙏🙏🙏

I only buy the bumper packs of school socks for my boys- 1 has grey, 1 has black. No pairs required as they all match and no mixing up who’s is whose.

with other socks for dh, dd and myself, (plus occasional rogue ds ones that sneak through l!) absolutely no unpaired socks go into bedrooms- get an odd sock basket. If only pairs go in, generally only pairs go out. It takes about a month or so but you’ll have no odd/missing socks in the washing. Bin the contents of odd sock basket after doing a pairing session every few months.

love batch cooking but I tend to do parts of meals rather than whole dishes. I cook a double roast dinner every week, then make up 5 x lunches for me, some chicken for the fridge, and 2 lots of bones in the slow cooker to make stock for soup. That’s a lot of meals. I make loads of mash potato and freeze it to then use for a fish pie, cottage pie, or sausage and mash when I fancy it. I do masses of veg and keep cooked carrots, sprouts, etc in the fridge to add to dc’s dinners.

we only give £5 notes in cards to all dcs friends for parties, no gifts or wrapping etc. I buy Asda 28p cards in advance.

i keep a Heinz squeeze bottle and a fairy liquid bottle which I have been refilling with own brand ketchup and washing up liquid for about 6 months now and no one has noticed, even dh who cannot possibly cope without these brands.

freeze slightly imperfect fruit in a Tupperware for smoothie mixes. Just add to milk and blend.

I have been working hard over the last few years to make my stressful busy life as smooth as possible. It’s still a work in progress but I recommend the following

  1. birthday app - I use Hip. You add all your birthdays and it counts down for them all. I also bulk buy cards from whistlefish and keep them all in a tin. With a big family, this is essential for my life.
  2. xmas present list app - life saver and helps remember and organise all the gifts and how much being spent
  3. shared calendar I use TimeTree but there are others- game changer
  4. snoop finance - tracks all my bills, all my bank accounts, alerts me, shows me trends in spending. It’s genius.
  5. period tracker on Apple Watch along with a small period drawer for all my period knickers and sanitary items. Simple but means I’m always really organised and prepared.
  6. two storage boxes in bedroom - one for summer clothes, one for winter that I rotate.
  7. each month I make a to do list on my phone notes page for all the life admin that needs to happen. I then tick them off as they are done.
  8. have a cleaner
  9. have a partner who pulls their weight around the house
  10. don’t expect perfection

These are fab - I have downloaded a few of these apps to try and organise my life

I keep a little bubble wand in my handbag to handle toddler tantrums in public withmisdirection

Love this!

If you have young children. Ziplock bag in pram, car and handbag with basics. A nappy, travel wetwipes, bib, hat, socks, plastic bag. Just the essentials for an emergency.

Yes.

Learned this one the hard way

I put ice cream in the freezer after shopping so it doesn't melt.

I've just nearly spat my tea out! 🤣

thisisasurvivor · 23/02/2023 08:46

I thought this was a genuine one 🤪

OP posts:
PuttingDownRoots · 23/02/2023 08:55

If you eat the ice cream before you get home you don't have to find space for it in the freezer.

whyhere · 23/02/2023 09:24

Change to an online bank account that allows you to create various 'pots'. Work out your year's expenditure and save an amount each month into the appropriate pot so that when a big annual bill comes in (car/house insurance; TV license etc) you've got the money in hand. Have separate pots for presents, health (dentist, optician), tax, vet - whatever suits your lifestyle.

Check your breasts and underarms on the 1st of each month.

I thought we were all crying in the supermarket car park? Didn't we all agree that a while back?

Oh I missed this! I cry in the shower too 😭

Emptycrackedcup · 23/02/2023 10:18

soboredtonight · 21/02/2023 21:40

Ffs dust them. Not fist them. Ffs.

🤣🤣🤣 I read that post a couple of times so wonder what fist meant 🤣🤣🤣

quirkychick · 23/02/2023 10:33

Put all your clean bedding for one bed folded inside a pillow case, then you just need to take the pillowcase rather than rummage around for sheets, duvet cover etc.

Put duvet covers on inside out: lay cover on top of duvet, hold corners of cover and duvet and pull cover the right way round over duvet, the corners stay in place - a chamber maid taught me that.

I'm about to change the bed, can you tell?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/02/2023 16:32

And store them inside out too.

one life hack I always mean to do, and never do, is to write on the top of the quilt which end is the top/bottom. That, combined with the inside out duvet, would make bed changes so easy.

thisisasurvivor · 23/02/2023 16:33

Jealous of those who have cleaners

peel ginger with edge of a teaspoon! instead of hacking massive bits of skin off with a knife. Learnt this last week

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/02/2023 18:21

Hrtft.

No need to peel garlic before putting in a press. The skin will stay behind.

Don't suffer fools

Baking paper lining pasta bake/lasagne dish. Think I read it on here a while back. Can't believe it's me taken decades to know this. No burnt cheese to scrape off and any leftovers just lift baking paper and put in fridge (on plate). Also learnt the putting duvets into pillowcase on MN and it's brill, saves so much time.
