Begging on Facebook

God I'm sick
Of it. Every bloody time I open
Facebook there's the same
School mummy looking for free uniforms: shoes/ gym gear/ football boots/ school books etc etc.

She is very wealthy.

She is honest about her reluctance to pay for anything if people happen to have them' hanging around gathering dust'.

Am I envious of her obvious cheek or AIBU to think she is a shameless and irritating bum?

Fed up of all the ppl on fb who ask for things for free.
There are People who not only want it free but want people to deliver too.

HellonHeels · 20/02/2023 20:59

Jump onto all her posts and say you're looking for rhe same thing, or something else. Free entertainment 🤣

Better that stuff gets passed on and re-used than binned, but I understand the irritation. I used to give stuff away on freecycle and quickly got annoyed with the same people asking for stuff all the time.

Sweetladyjane · 20/02/2023 20:59

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking as long as she’s not expecting it to be delivered.

CherLloydbyCherLloyd · 20/02/2023 21:02

You might not know their true situation - they could be wealthy in terms of income but have most of their income tied up in bills.

I don’t do this myself but I do hate buying things just for the sake of it from a waste point of view. A lot of people I know ask for free items but also pass a lot on for free themselves from an environmental standpoint. Some people also do “buy nothing” challenges which are quite a big thing just now.

desperadodogface · 20/02/2023 21:02

I know a mum who dresses herself in designer clothes and makes her children wear awful free stuff including her youngest girl wearing clothes passed by her two sons. I'm all for recycling clothes and passing things on but not if you're living in new designer threads while saying you can't afford to clothe or feed your kids

Dominoeffecter · 20/02/2023 21:03

She calls herself school mummy??

VintageThoughts · 20/02/2023 21:08

Maybe she's thinking of the environment?

MargaretThursday · 20/02/2023 21:10

I'm sometimes surprised by posts that say something along the lines of:
"Need urgently <insert high value item that would go second hand for quite a bit>" but they do sometimes have replies offering the stuff, so I guess it's worth doing.
I'd guess it's worth asking, and if someone is genuinely wanting to get rid of something and they can find a home, well, what's the proble?

What I do feel uncomfortable with is ones with a sob story:
"Please can I have <long list including lots of high value items> for my lovely friend who lost their home due to flooding, mother died last year, was in a car accident five years ago and once had a cancer scare when they were a teen."
Especially when I recognise their name and notice that over the last few years they've had several friends with Ukrainian refugees who needed everything, another few who needed help because they worked for the NHS over covid etc, all of whom needed the same high value items...

Chowtime · 20/02/2023 21:11

why don't you block her if she annoys you so much

This surely

DrManhattan · 20/02/2023 21:17

Hate this. There are people who actually can't afford stuff and people like this just take it.
Horrible.

firellogs · 20/02/2023 21:22

Ya she's all into the environment except when she's driving around in her gas guzzling SUV and shein clothes .
I'm a bitch .I know it

OP posts:
firellogs · 20/02/2023 21:29

No. She really is extremely wealthy as is her husband. Public sector high end job and private consultations on the side . Husband forensic accountant . No shortage whatsoever and she'll be quick to tell you that in other ways.

OP posts:
Whatdoesitmatterif · 20/02/2023 21:32

It doesn't really matter, things like old uniform and shoes would otherwise only end up in the bin or charity shop anyway.

redbigbananafeet · 20/02/2023 21:32

Why don't you block her?

firellogs · 20/02/2023 21:47

Good
Point. She only
Posts looking for stuff . It annoys me and then I forget about it again

This is clearly why she is very wealthy. Every pound is a prisoner.

Shebelievedshecouldbutshecba · 20/02/2023 21:58

During lockdown I noticed an acquaintance begging on FB for a free laptop. She was told to speak to her school, as they would have hardship funds to provide something so her children could study. She was adamant her school wouldn’t. Which was probably true given it was a fee paying school, she had 3 kids there. So not exactly in hardship. Strangely, she didn’t admit her kids were at public school on FB!

firellogs · 20/02/2023 22:00

Interestingly , I work in a school and the tightest most selfish people are the wealthiest, yet when we offer to pay for swimming lessons for those we know would need the leg up, they refuse on point of pride and principle .

It did annoy me but I figure at least the item will be used. Total CF if you want it dropped off though!

discobrain · 20/02/2023 22:04

There's this thing called "blocking" that I hear works quite well on Facebook.

A girl wearing handmedowns from her brothers? Perish the thought. Maybe someone should report her to 101.

firellogs · 20/02/2023 22:05

Oh yes . Always needs to be dropped off or met at school gate as she is soooooo busy normally running before and after work
