God I'm sick
Of it. Every bloody time I open
Facebook there's the same
School mummy looking for free uniforms: shoes/ gym gear/ football boots/ school books etc etc.

She is very wealthy.

She is honest about her reluctance to pay for anything if people happen to have them' hanging around gathering dust'.

Am I envious of her obvious cheek or AIBU to think she is a shameless and irritating bum?

I don’t mind the “does anyone have outgrown xyz they want rid of that I could take / buy?” type posts.

But I really dislike the “I really need (insert high value item) after such a terrible year (insert list of personal woes), surely someone reading this can restore my faith in human nature and be kind enough to give me one?” stuff.

Someone on my FB mums' group lately posting begging for preemie girls clothing as her daughter had been born on time but small and the newborn clothes she had were too baggy apparently. Someone suggested a local store that sells preemie baby grows for £1/2 and she said no, she has absolutely no money for a month. Someone offered a bag of boy/unisex preemie clothing and she said absolutely not, she has a girl. Was baffling. Clicked on her profile and this was her fourth child with the others being about 3, 2 and 1 years old. Set my teeth on edge thinking about bringing more children into poverty and then scoffing at wearing baggy clothes or boy's clothing for the short term.

I don't mind requests for 2nd hand clothes/uniform as I think it's wasteful constantly buying new and often source used clothes if I can.

My local FB is full of anonymous posts from people apparently on their uppers, who can't afford food or leccy and asking for "advice". People who are less cynical than me have been falling over themselves to offer money, food and goodies. That irritates me more than your woman.

we have a local free site. when i was clearing a relations house i kept listing small items free the same 2 or 3 people relied they wanted it within 1 minute,they must be on the site all day,i felt like saying i had a bucket of elephant dung free to see if they wanted it, no matter what i advertised they wanted it, in the end i ignored them and gave to other people ,they would of had the lot other wise,some people ask for stuff free and never put thank you on the post,

I occassionally post stuff for free on a local fb page. The same person almost always comments on anything/everything. It's like she's set up an alert for anything free. I've no idea of her circumstances but I'd find it hard to believe she's in desperate need of every single item anyone ever posts that's free! In fact I know she isnt because within seconds she posts "yes please" ....then sometimes half an hour later she pms to say she's changed her mind! 🙄

Yeah we have a couple on our village free page that try to grab everything claiming they are struggling. They are also the couple that have a table at the car boot sale in the next town over every single week selling loads of stuff then straight into the pub afterwards ... funny that.
I'd have no issues if they were genuinely in need but they drink it all every week.

My local mum's Facebook page is full of these at the moment. Lots of people asking for advice on how to afford children's birthdays, food, electric etc. All posted anonymously and all ending up with people giving them things, doing a shop for them, last week there was people buying things for a children's birthday off of an Amazon wish list.

I have huge doubts over these posts because the people offering advice that the poster claims to be looking for are ignored, but the people offering to give them things get replies.

My Dad is very wealthy because he has worked relentlessly his whole life and because he's very, very careful with how he spends his money.
He would never buy new clothes, and has to be persuaded to buy new shoes instead of making do with ones that nearly fit from the charity shop!
I might set him up on Facebook if he ever retires, the freebie pages would bring him hours of joy!

I'm seeing more of this recently, its not the posters that annoy me it's the replies 'inbox me your bank details hun xx' 'where do you live I'll do a shop for you' virtue signalling knobs.

I'm wondering if you're from Bristol 😆. Our local group has the same people every week begging for cash 'for electricity' or repeatedly asking for 'nappies' or kid's 'food bits' but they apparently can't collect so people send money instead. It gets ridiculous.

It wouldn’t bother me.
DS is at Private school so nobody is short of money but we all pass on unwanted items in good condition. I’m happy to both give and receive them.
Its a shame to waste things
