Muddy paws dog jumped on me on walk, WWYD?

Blip · 18/02/2023 11:36

I was walking across a park yesterday and two spaniels bounded towards me about 50 yards away from their owner. I could tell they were going to try and jump up at me so I avoided eye contact with them and told my dd to do the same.

Unfortunately one still did jump up at me multiple times and left mud on my clean trousers.

I shouted at the owner to please keep her dogs under control as one had got mud on my trousers. Not in an aggressive or rude tone though.

In my opinion if you don't have sufficient control over your dog to stop them doing this they need to be kept on a lead in public. The owner didn't seem very bothered and I think there is zero chance of her preventing this happening another time to someone else or possibly even to me again. I feel pretty annoyed about it.

I think there are some owners who either don't think it's a problem when their dogs jump up at strangers or who just don't care.

What would you do if this happened to you?

Hitting them with sticks. Not wanting them in parks, towns, buildings at all ever. There is a fair few other that have irrational responses.

I agree by the way that dogs should be on lead if they are not trained with reliable recall. And people should not expect to get muddy walking through a park.

Wanting more dog free spaces is not irrational

@Butchyrestingface

we are in the midst of cost of living crisis. Most of us don’t wanna be putting the washing machine on more than necessary.

do you have money to burn?

cos that’s what it sounds like

Not money to burn, just not experiencing an epidemic of muddy dogs jumping all over me.

Hence, if it happens occasionally, I'd chalk it up to one of life's irritations, in the same way I do when some driver sprays me with puddle water. Annoying certainly, but not worth indulging in fantasies about poisoning dogs.

I didn't say that was irrational. I said there were a few other with irrational responses.

Laugh and stroke the dog.
perhaps mn should have a group thread for people moaning about dogs.
it's not the dog's fault it's down to lack of training and control by owner.she should have dogs under control and she could have apologised.d
would you have started a thread if a toddler had fun up to you and put sticky hands on your trousers and shouted at the parent?
thought not.

@KarmaStar

if I out and an uncontrolled dog came at me and left my covered in mud the last thing I would wanna do would be laugh and stroke it.

cos I am not a complete wet wipe.

Including it as an example albeit misquoted yes you did

No I said that that shows that people hate dogs. I didn't say that was irrational. As my post states. Why are you telling me what I meant?

That would be just as annoying and one would equally expect the parent to apologise

I’m going by what you wrote not by what you think you meant

LuckySantangelo35 · 18/02/2023 18:33

@KarmaStar

and I don’t really give a shit if it’s the dogs fault or not. I just don’t want it to happen.

though to be fair to you, it wouldn’t be the dog I would bollock in that situation, it would be their owner.

WiIson · 18/02/2023 18:33

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2023 18:26

You are literally telling people to poison dogs. How the hell can you say you don't hate them? Don't be soft

And no I am not one of those owners. As you would see by the multiple posts I have put on this thread.

I'm not telling anyone to do anything.

I mean, if I told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?

No? If not, why not?

Some level of free will perhaps?

People can do what they want right?

Just like feckless dog owners do.

My preferred option really is to take a shame picture of the feckless dog owner and share it. :-)

But if someone shares 'treats' with doggy, then ask yourself how they got so close to do that.

The ones where I have stated that dogs should be on lead if they have no recall and people shouldn't expect to get muddy in a park?

notprincehamlet · 18/02/2023 18:35

Take to my fainting couch and weep inconsolably at the injustice of it all

Mind not to get mud on the faint couch.

LuckySantangelo35 · 18/02/2023 18:35

@KarmaStar

oh and yeah I would be similarly irritated at the parents of a toddler if said toddler soiled my clothes!

I don’t want go around looking like a mess. Though I do realise that some posters on here can’t get their heads around that as they claim to not care what they look like ever.

You'd be completely wrong. I hate dick head owners who give us all a bad name. As I have repeatedly said, but I would never fucking poison one.

Well jolly good for you.

Sounds like your doggy might be safe then.

nalabae · 18/02/2023 18:36

Yawn at replies. Irrelevant nonsense.
go get rude to dog owners I hope you meet the wrong ones.

funny thing is I bet you lot will only pick on women alone with dogs if it’s a group of teenagers I bet you won’t say nothing!

fair play. Totally with you on that 👌

OutofEverything · 18/02/2023 18:37

I would feel mildly peeved for a few minutes. But this is not really an issue. Don't sweat the small stuff.

magicthree · 18/02/2023 18:37

Nothing, it wouldn't bother me at all.

No but you'd be a prick for telling someone to jump off a cliff as well wouldn't you

Take a photo of them. You should. Share it to social media. That is fine. No harm comes to the dogs and the owner may be shamed enough to control their dog. But to advocate poisoning?! No

Blip · 18/02/2023 18:37

I'm absolutely not for poisoning dogs as I think it's all about the owner.

I am tempted though to keep a pocketful of doggy chocs, feed some to the next dog that jumps on me whose owner doesn't give a fuck about it and say I just fed him some of my chocolate buttons, hope you don't mind, he's so cute. Wait for them to sweat for a few mins and then innocently show them the packet.
