Is this a dig

Probably a none issue but feel like this was a dig at me and I want to get others opinions

Went to a local charity shop this morning and I picked up two nice tops. The shop assistant came over to me and said ‘just to let you know you can try those on if you like or if you want to take them home and try them on then we offer 30 days to get a refund if they don’t fit, just incase you get home and realise they make you look like a sack of potatoes, it’s happened to me before’. Aibu to think this was a rude dig ?

yabu, she was just letting you know they can be returned. I very much doubt she tried to visualise you in the tops.

maddy68 · 14/02/2023 12:19

Really? You took offence at that? It's not a dig at all

clpsmum · 14/02/2023 12:19

No think she was just trying to be nice tbh

PyjamaFan · 14/02/2023 12:19

No.

DuplicateUserName · 14/02/2023 12:20

Nah, just clumsy customer service skills.

Justcallmebebes · 14/02/2023 12:21

Nope, can't see anything at all wrong in what she said and it's true. How often has something looked great on the hanger, you've taken it home and tried it on and you look like a sack of spuds?

You're being a tad over sensitive here

ÉireannachÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉ · 14/02/2023 12:21

I think she was trying to be helpful

Applesandcarrots · 14/02/2023 12:22

You sound like that ever namechanging poster who takes just basically everything as personal insult.
I really think it's self esteem issue rather than being angry or something. Hope it gets better...

UdoU · 14/02/2023 12:22

Lots of clothes look nice online or on the hanger but just don't hang well, regardless of your size.

Yes, her choice of words was very poor but I don't think she meant to have a dig at you.

Ihatethenewlook · 14/02/2023 12:23

Sounds like she was making a joke? I’d have laughed at this, not got offended and started a thread on it on mn

harrassedmumto3 · 14/02/2023 12:23

It's not what I could imagine saying to a customer, but I don't think she meant any offence. It was still clumsy wording though, and easily replaced with 'if you don't like it!'

JorisBonson · 14/02/2023 12:23

Absolute non issue.

JE17 · 14/02/2023 12:24

Sounds like she was being friendly. Hope the new tops looked good!

Annoyingwurringnoise · 14/02/2023 12:25

No, you’re projecting.

donttellmehesalive · 14/02/2023 12:25

Bloody hell it's threads like this that make me never want to talk to anyone in rl again. So prickly after such an innocuous comment.

Harlow19 · 14/02/2023 12:25

Honestly, no I do not think she was making a dig at you and was just being helpful. I don’t agree with her choice of wording though she could of just said “if you don’t like it” but I don’t see any maliciousness in what she said.

badgergirly · 14/02/2023 12:26

FFS 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

entirelyesspresso · 14/02/2023 12:26

Absolutely not a dig, she sounds lovely, witty and helpful.

May I remind you these people are volunteers and giving of their time and doing their very best.

Do you usually take offence / presume people are being snide? That's sad as you're probably not as open to friendship, chats and having a naughty with oriole if you are like this. You'll be happier if you can let go of some of your insecurities

entirelyesspresso · 14/02/2023 12:27

Having a naughty what? (Autocorrect!)

*having a laugh

Dijoduo · 14/02/2023 12:29

If it were a dig then it makes no sense.

Option A - “You don’t look like a sack of potatoes and so if you look like one in the top then it’s the top’s fault. Bring it back.” No dig because she’s insulting the top, not you.

Option B - “You look like a sack of potatoes, you’ll look like a sack of potatoes in that top too. No point blaming the top or bringing it back”. She wouldn’t have advised you to bring it back if she were digging at you.

2crossedout1 · 14/02/2023 12:29

I think this is about your self-esteem, OP? She was just trying to be nice.

Daizie · 14/02/2023 12:29

No it wasn't a dig 🤣

MillenialAvocado · 14/02/2023 12:31

It sounds like she was taking a dig at herself!

Xol · 14/02/2023 12:39

She's almost certainly a volunteer, trying to be helpful. Don't read all sorts of subtexts into this.

RaininSummer · 14/02/2023 12:41

Don't be daft OP. She was being funny and surely we have all bought clothes that make us look awful.
