Is this a dig

Probably a none issue but feel like this was a dig at me and I want to get others opinions

Went to a local charity shop this morning and I picked up two nice tops. The shop assistant came over to me and said ‘just to let you know you can try those on if you like or if you want to take them home and try them on then we offer 30 days to get a refund if they don’t fit, just incase you get home and realise they make you look like a sack of potatoes, it’s happened to me before’. Aibu to think this was a rude dig ?

You lack the sense of humour she assumed you had, because that's how the vast majority of people would have taken it.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 14/02/2023 12:48

Sounds like someone who puts herself down to build rapport unaware of the fact she's actually putting the other person down too 🙈

UseOfWeapons · 14/02/2023 12:49

I would have LMAO at this, it’s happened to me before!😂

PlantKi1ler · 14/02/2023 13:01

It sounds like she was just being friendly. I wouldn't take offence to that.

JudgeRudy · 14/02/2023 13:11

Do you have low self esteem? Or maybe always thinking it's all about you? She's not interested. No one is. You were just a passing customer who's been forgotten.

How did it look?

OhClunge · 14/02/2023 13:16

She was trying to be nice and say no problem if you get it home and change your mind
Why do people see offence in everything ?

Redglitter · 14/02/2023 13:18

Sometimes it seems like people go out their way to find offence in the slightest thing

Companyofwolves · 14/02/2023 13:21

She was trying to be helpful but it came off wrong not deliberate & more her issue than yours

Rauha · 14/02/2023 13:24

It wasn't a dig in any way. YABU.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/02/2023 13:25

Doesn't sound like a dig at all OP, she was just trying to let you know that you can try them on or try them on at home and bring them back if they aren't right. No benefit at all to making all sorts out of it that there wasn't and end up feeling bad; she was (trying) to be friendly.

BreviloquentBastard · 14/02/2023 13:25

She was just being friendly. I love it when people in customer service are more chill and jokey, much better than the weird plastic fakery of American style customer service. Don't take it to heart, it wasn't a personal dig.

ramanw · 14/02/2023 13:27

No, definitely wasn't a dig.

Just sounds like she was being friendly and letting you know you can return them as most charity shops don't have that option.

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 14/02/2023 13:34

Fuck me, it really is at the stage no one can say anything at all to anyone else lest offence is taken.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 14/02/2023 13:50

Oh no, the permanently offended are out again.

Climbles · 14/02/2023 13:52

No, your being too sensitive

Mercurial123 · 14/02/2023 13:54

I'd say you're easily offended. She was talking about herself, not you.

OldTinHat · 14/02/2023 14:20

YABU

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/02/2023 14:20

I don't think a top is going to make you look like a sack of potatoes, it would need to be a dress, preferably in hessian. With maybe a rope belt.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 14/02/2023 14:24

If anything it was a jokey remark at her own expense, not yours! She sounds friendly and informal in her manner, which is totally fine for a shop volunteer. YABU

mickandrorty · 14/02/2023 14:46

friendly and helpful! Do you really think she took the time to come over just to have a dig at you? yabu.
