To think this generic email is misogynistic?

Received this email this afternoon from Ubereats (I’m in Sydney). Glanced at it & was about to ignore then I read the bit about stop relying on horoscopes to find true love. I’m not looking for love so not offended in that respect but honestly who thought this was a good idea? To make fun of women on (a made up day) Valentines Day. Not a huge deal I admit but tiresome nonetheless.

Tbf it is only women that seem to believe that guff

Hmm, some of the most famous astrologers are/were men - Russell Grant, Jonathan Cainer, Oscar Cainer (his nephew who took over his horoscopes when he died). Of course, they might be total cynics making it all up but I don't think it's fair to say horoscopes are solely a female thing.

Bayleaf25 · 14/02/2023 07:47

It’s totally crap and not funny but is definitely gender neutral so I don’t read it as being aimed at women.

Lostinplaces · 14/02/2023 07:49

You’re paranoid.

’hand-feed, staring in their eyes’

That was disgusting!
I threw up a bit.

Sexist or not, who cares!
Who writes garbage above!

agree!
Guess they are trying to be funny but it’s really insulting - I’m an idiot for hoping to find a soul mate based on a horoscope, then if I’m capable of finding one for myself I’m going to demean myself by hand feeding and staring into their eyes, which makes me sound like a bunny boiler.
who writes this crap.
and even worse who are all the account handlers, creative directors, clients who approve it.
sheesh.

Bellalalala · 14/02/2023 07:52

It’s shit. But its very careful to not aim it or about any particular sex.

Moomoola · 14/02/2023 07:54

Yes but it’s slanted more towards women. Pink and horoscopes?

I’m really not. But obviously you are free to think whatever you like.

They mention ordering red roses - traditionally it's more likely to be a male partner buying flowers for a female partner. Obviously by no means exclusively as they could be exchanged the other way round, in a same-sex relationship and so on, but if they were going by stereotypes as has been suggested, that wouldn't fit as one.

AuntSallie · 14/02/2023 08:01

Nothing to see here. It’s not aimed at women.

That’s true, if anything the “you” in the advert is aimed at men because it says if you do find a soul mate, then “you” can order roses, champagne, chocolates and strawberries from them. Traditionally, the man buys the woman these sorts of gifts on Valentines Day.

Not sure how true that is. I’ve heard a fair few blokes mention star signs (on reality shows I shouldn’t be watching) and their apparent influence on compatibility.

Lcb123 · 14/02/2023 08:08

It’s mocking horoscopes not women

Mybestusername · 14/02/2023 08:12

It is pink thoughGrin

Mugparrot · 14/02/2023 08:16

I'd have thought Uber Eats for Valentines is more aimed at men? But that's probably sexist.

Virtually all marketing for Valentine's Day is pink, whether it's aimed at men or women. Look at all those pink cards.

Did you read the part where I said I wasn’t offended? I think you might be taking it more seriously than I am going by your comment. I have already come back to say thank you to people for sharing their opinion. Not sure if you read that far.

FFS do you not feel constantly stressed finding offence everywhere?

Nope, I’m all good. I did say that I wasn’t offended (if you read before posting you might know that).

So, basically you’re one of those women who is just looking for reasons to be offended.

grow up

Nope, if you read what I said before commenting you would have seen that I said I’m not offended. I was just asking the question, more so as to what others thought. Thanks though.

So you don’t find misogyny offensive? Because your thoughts were that this email was misogynistic.

which is it? You’re only not offended now that everyone has said you’re being ridiculous?

WetBandits · 14/02/2023 08:57

Um OP...the only person who’s made this about women is you. The misogyny is coming from inside the house on this one 🙃

So you thought it was mysonogistic but you weren't offended ?

bussteward · 14/02/2023 09:01

They’re not wrong, horoscopes are bollocks. Anyone offended by it is probably a Sagittarius anyway.
