to wonder about the ethics of being a bystander, and wonder what the bystanders were doing during the appalling assault in Ashford (Surrey) when a schoolgirl was beaten up, the awful video shows a grown woman encouraging primary aged kids to get involved...but there are any number of bystanders including a man in a car, the school principal (at the end) and any number of other school kids including much older looking boys. Wondering if anyone here would have tried to intervene to stop the fight or encouraged their children to intervene in cases like this?

They have traveller heritage even if they live in houses. They also don't get fined for taking their children out of school during term time as it's part of their heritage to go travelling when they want!

If I walked past an incident like that my 1st instinct, although it likely wouldn't be wise, would be to try and stop it. I wouldn't be worrying whether the child is Black or White. That's somebody's daughter, sister etc. A schoolgirl.

Apparently the suspect family have been charged and bailed. They have been forbidden entering Surrey and are apparently hiding as a black activist group would like an urgent word before court.

The neighbours of these revolting people are apparently very relieved they have gone, having been scared shitless by them.

No wait sorry. The fight (it was a fight at that stage) was already in progress when Aggressive Mum arrived with reinforcements. There is a girl in the background who walks away, maybe the second victim?

Surely pupils like that need to be in special schools where they get more help with social stuff.

It is clear that the traveller woman was organising the attack, and if any adult had stepped in this would have meant physically laying hands on the daughter...I can only imagine how this would have turned out. I think that's why the Teachers approached calmly, to diffuse the situation rather than antagonise it further. Also why men in their cars didn't intervene- I don't blame the men for keeping their distance from a fight with teenage and young girls as they wouldn't have felt able to lay their hands on them to break it up. That Mother is truly vile she needs to be locked up. More stories in the press of how neighbours are terrified of that family.

Where is this "evidence"? This was a vile attack and there is zero evidence of what you are claiming.

There is a white girl being attacked at the start of the full video. The one mostly being circulated is a shorter version with that bit cut.

Who knows what the truth of it is, but everyone has their agenda.

Question is, how do we as a society deal with problem families like this?

By not allowing a two tier system and allowing those traveller children the same rights as other children in the UK.

What rights would those be then? Why do traveller problem families have fights so often? Why do they often take children out of school after Primary age particularly girls?

Exactly, the kids need the same rights to an education as everyone else, as in...for their parents to not be allowed to take them out willy nilly

All children deserve the right to a peaceful child hood no matter what culture they are born into.

The law and rights trump culture so once we start to try and protect these rights the sooner this disgusting practice will be phased out and people can make educated and informed choices

With rights come responsibilities. If you want to allow a group of people their rights, then you must expect them to fulfil their responsibilities too.

We all have rights, basic human rights, but we have responsibilities to allow others their rights too. Attacking others doesn’t fit into the category of respect for other people and their rights. If the community from which the perpetrators of that crime wish to have the right to pursue their lifestyle in the manner they choose, they should accept that other sectors of society have the same rights and that their responsibility is not to prevent others from being attacked.
