Ban the time wasters?

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 06/02/2023 20:22

It's bad enough that I have to give my children the same pieces of information a thousand times a day but it's all over MN too. I am talking about people replying to posts to ask questions that have clearly been answered in the original post.

E.g. my husband gave my friend chocolate but we didn't know she'd given up chocolate. AIBU?

Replies

  1. If you knew she'd given up chocolate then you were BU
  1. Did you know she'd given up chocolate? You sound like a terrible friend.
  1. Does your husband always disrespect your friends by deliberately feeding them things they've given up? My husband would never do that. I couldn't be with someone like that.

My solution is..... If someone replies to a post with a question that has been clearly answered in the original post then they get a week's ban from MN.

If their question was answered in a subsequent post from OP then a 12 hour ban from MN.

Ideally I would stop my children from asking previously answered questions but as I have failed to do that I am focusing my efforts here instead.

You are BU = people might miss information and it's fine to ask

You are NOT BU - ban the posters who can't be bothered to read the OP properly

😂seems strict

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/02/2023 20:24

Haha I get your point. Or where its a long thread of over 3 or 4 pages then READ ALL THE OP'S posts before posting!

Thewildling · 06/02/2023 20:24

Maybe you just need a break from mumsnet…

gamerchick · 06/02/2023 20:25

I would like to give a weeks ban to people who use the voting buttons for polls.

Can definitely see potential with your ideas like Grin

dogdaydown · 06/02/2023 20:25

You're way to over invested! Take up a hobby?

Greensleevevssnotnose · 06/02/2023 20:26

I generally just click all on the OP so I don't know all the other suggestions, sorry I have about 30 minutes a day to sit and read, usually broken into 5 minute bursts

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2023 20:26

CANCEL THE CHEQUE.

That is all.

Wearefamily23 · 06/02/2023 20:35

I don't fully understand AIBU. Some people say yes. Op replys with but what if xyz. Then people make comments that mumsnet said yes you are being unreasonable. No not all mumsnet did say that. Some did say that, others did not . Even if they did. The op still has a right to reply. Op does not just have to say oh ok. And stop posting. If that happened there would be no discussion. So what would be the point . When Op replies with what if etc that's Op exploring the situation or trying to explain.

Nandocushion · 06/02/2023 20:57

I sort of agree but there doesn't seem to be any way of isolating just the OP's posts when you're using the app - I can only do this on my laptop. Which means it can be very time consuming to scroll through and try to find them before commenting. Unless I've missed something?

Noodledoodledoo · 06/02/2023 21:04

Its symptomatic about lots of things in life - class whatsapp group, asking for details about things clearly stated on newletter, previous messages, etc. I send an email to a youth group I run ... cue a load of messges asking me for the details I have just sent out!

Airplant · 06/02/2023 21:36

Yes ban time waster, they always take up spaces at doctors. Sorry if its already been said I did not read the whole post.

in the original post, bottom right corner you should see this…

OP posts: See all

I get that on the site but not on the app on my phone.

Allthelego · 07/02/2023 03:30

How long would you ban them for?

CraneBoysMysteries · 07/02/2023 03:36

@Nandocushion what phone do you have? There is a filter icon on the app at the top of the screen where you can see all OPs posts. Or if you pull to the left their posts you can also filter

But android may be different from iPhone

TheFretfulPorpentine · 07/02/2023 03:41

Don't forget the Greek chorus who will point out that you are lucky to have a husband. Or a friend. Or chocolate.

ScandinavianSkies · 07/02/2023 04:33

Good grief 😂
Have you seen the skies the last few days in the UK? Absolutely beautiful. Have a look.

daisychain01 · 07/02/2023 04:43

Noted.

Thanks.

🤣

NeverYouMindMyName · 07/02/2023 04:46

A ban is funny 😂, but booting them off the thread doesn't seem extreme to me at all! If they can't understand the question, they shouldn't be there anyway 😒

NeverYouMindMyName · 07/02/2023 04:48

Oh and also, who was watching your precious DC while you were all having your chocolate threeway?

NeverYouMindMyName · 07/02/2023 04:49

@Airplant 🤣

NeverYouMindMyName · 07/02/2023 04:50

By the way, this thread might get deleted. The first rule of MN is you don't talk about MN 🤫

OP seems to have confused Mumsnet with Plato's Academy.

UdoU · 07/02/2023 05:31

Instead of reading every post, just click see all and read all the OP’s posts and then comment.

It’s mildly annoying but maybe some people have ADHD etc and don’t always see the answers to their questions in a body of text.
