Ban the time wasters?

It's bad enough that I have to give my children the same pieces of information a thousand times a day but it's all over MN too. I am talking about people replying to posts to ask questions that have clearly been answered in the original post.

E.g. my husband gave my friend chocolate but we didn't know she'd given up chocolate. AIBU?

Replies

  1. If you knew she'd given up chocolate then you were BU
  1. Did you know she'd given up chocolate? You sound like a terrible friend.
  1. Does your husband always disrespect your friends by deliberately feeding them things they've given up? My husband would never do that. I couldn't be with someone like that.

My solution is..... If someone replies to a post with a question that has been clearly answered in the original post then they get a week's ban from MN.

If their question was answered in a subsequent post from OP then a 12 hour ban from MN.

Ideally I would stop my children from asking previously answered questions but as I have failed to do that I am focusing my efforts here instead.

You are BU = people might miss information and it's fine to ask

You are NOT BU - ban the posters who can't be bothered to read the OP properly

OP posts:

I do often wonder, when someone asks a question that has already been asked and answered 6 times by the OP, does the person asking the question even check to see if the OP replies to their question. Or do they just wander off, satisfied that they've helped by making the OP think about her situation with their very profound, important and original question.

Don't forget the Greek chorus who will point out that you are lucky to have a husband. Or a friend. Or chocolate.

😂

It’s the smart arses for me. Someone starts a thread like ‘anyone watching Happy Valley?’

’No’
’No OP. You are the only one in the world watching it.’

and think they are soooo funny.

There should definitely be a ban for people who post 5 days after the original post without it apparently occurring to them that the situation might have moved on in the meantime. If OP is worrying that her partner hasn't come home, or is in intense pain and wondering about going to A&E, she's hardly likely to have been stuck there waiting for five days for your particular words of wisdom.

That is every "Is my partner cheating on me?" thread!

Over the course of the 5 days the OP finds out that, yes, he's been repeatedly cheating on her for over 10 years, he's admitted he has 2 other children with 2 other women, he's given her chlamydia, the OP has since kicked him out and he's now staying with his mother.

Then Lollipop73 pops up with "Just ask him!"

@Nandocushion what phone do you have? There is a filter icon on the app at the top of the screen where you can see all OPs posts. Or if you pull to the left their posts you can also filter

But android may be different from iPhone

Yes I have Android! Do you mean that all the iPhone users get to isolate OP posts when they're scrolling in the dark in the middle of the night, while there I am trawling away through pages of posts looking for the blue username again? It's so unfair!

Teaandtoast3 · 08/02/2023 02:16

I did wonder if they had stopped teaching basic comprehension at school actually with some posts I’ve seen. There could however be endless reasons why users don’t read the OP properly.

I sort of agree but there doesn't seem to be any way of isolating just the OP's posts when you're using the app - I can only do this on my laptop. Which means it can be very time consuming to scroll through and try to find them before commenting. Unless I've missed something?

Totally this on my Samsung app

Ahh that might well explain it actually

MrsMikeDrop · 08/02/2023 02:31

I must admit I'm guilty of missing things because I've skimmed too quickly. I think you should be able to delete or edit your post.
I'm not as fussed on mumset but I love the idea in general OP, just in life. Wouldn't it be great if you could do that at work, and the person gets banished into a naughty room 🤣

Haha oh yes they're my favourite. Like everything is a pissing contest

Very very true. But then when they double down... 😒
