Singles are often the same prices as returns, aren’t they? So basically, we’ll be paying double.

I have read the article and don't understand why this would make you drive rather than take a train.

I'd love that but sadly yhe way things are in the UK can't see that happening . The government want to punish workers

What is the point in that? People will just use their cars its not like trains are a cheap option anymore its slmost like they want us to use cars again

All the media and government have been banging on about recently is getting workers back to the office-I can’t see this helping much of they can’t afford two singles every day.

2 advance singles are cheaper then a return anyway.

I got the bus the other day (first time for a long time) and the driver told me it was cheaper to get 2 singles than a return, which didn’t make sense to me.

I go once a week to the office. Single 12.5. Return 13.1. Unless they reduce the price to half it will be double the price for me

Not always. My train cost the same on the day of advance. Return is only £1 extra. Many day tickets are fixed price

The buses round here don't do returns, just singles or day tickets so depending on journey length it can be cheaper to buy 2 singles maybe it was something like that?

However to get the train into the nearest city it's £6.10 single or £6.30 return, so definitely not cheaper to buy two singles!

It has been cheaper to buy two singles instead of a return for ages. It is suggested on the Trainline app to buy two singles to save money.

We’ve found parking in London for £10 a day so won’t bother with trains again. For 5 of us at £88 per adult and slightly less for for dc, car is cheaper and more reliable.

Round here a return is always cheaper than two singles if booked in advance

Pretty much the only time I get the train is into London. A return is £2 more than a single.

Doubling the cost of the train fare means the day out will be unaffordable for me now.
