Eating cake in the bath ok but crisps is gross?

Firstly, this is somewhat lighthearted

I enjoy a bath one night every week. It's a night my DH games and as long as both kids aren't ill, I also manage to have a nice relaxing bath. iPad with a good reality tv series, nice drink, long soak and a treat to eat. I usually get myself a yellow sticker item for post dinner yum. Trifle, piece of chocolate cake etc

Last night I was having my nice soak and hadn't picked anything up so I took up some wotsits.

DH sees me go upstairs with it and comments 'you're not having crisps in the bath are you?'.

I explained I hadn't had a chance to pick anything up and he didn't have a problem with my slice of black forest gateaux the week before

Then he sort of screws his nose up and says that cake or a nice dessert is an indulgence in the bath...but crisps is just a bit gross. He couldn't articulate why and admits the old flake advert from the 90s may have influenced his opinion.

So.. AIBU that both are fine to eat in the bath or is there something about some foods that just seem wrong while soaking

Folks, if you are of the anti eating anything in the bath then this is not for you my friends!

Cake can be eaten with a fork, crisps can't, therefore touching them with potentially wet hands

An old knitter’s trick. Use chopsticks 🥢 to eat your messy food with.

ToriLynn · 05/02/2023 17:21

@saltinesandcoffeecups genius! 🙌🤣

maddiemookins16mum · 05/02/2023 17:55

I don’t get eating in the bath, surely everything gets covered in Matey.

Fairislefandango · 05/02/2023 17:59

You have spoiled his image of you luxuriously bathing now he just sees you stuffing your face with wotsits 😂

Point out to him that the purpose of your bath is for you to enjoy it, not to create an appealing mental image for him Hmm.

Personally I like a bath but it wouldn't remotely occur to me to ever eat in the bath. Or watch tv or read tbh.

I once ate sausage and mash in the bath! (had a very long day, was very sore, and genuinely didn't think I could climb out at the point dinner was ready.)

My toilet is not in the same room as the bath, for what it's worth.

PP asked how long people spend in the bath - for me it would be 2/3 hours I guess? I rarely have a bath, but when I do it's not to get clean, it's to soak

It did feel weird, but I was hungry. So, need must etc. Grin

A knitting needle would be a good wotsit / bath implement. You could spear them in a satisfyingly crunchy fashion I think.

Recently, I wondered what all the hoo-ha was about with having a glass of wine in the bath. So I tried it.
It was weird. I kept glancing at the toilet, I couldn't relax, so I chugged down the wine, had a wash and got out.
It was all sorts of wrong, so I can't imagine taking food in as well!

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 05/02/2023 18:34

The mental image of eating cake (with a fork) or chocolates or drinking wine etc in the bath is sexier and more decadent/elegant/glamorous than a packet of crisps. In reality though, they probably both look equally good/gross.

“Folks, if you are of the anti eating anything in the bath then this is not for you my friends!”🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it lol

I’ve taken in a G&T but the bath was too hot and I got out feeling awful!

I cannot imagine eating fish and chips in there! 🤣 whatever floats your boat.

RocketIceLollie · 05/02/2023 18:47

Eating anything in the bathroom would be a bit of a no-no in my opinion.

Eating in the bath is gross. Full stop.

I love to eat and I love a bath but not at the same time.

We must have missed the part where everyone died and you became Queen of Everything.
Just like you missed the bit that told you this was not the thread for you....

turrrniiipz · 05/02/2023 19:01

I love an ice cold drink, or a boiling hot cup of tea, and I like something to snack on like boiled sweets or skittles or a few squares of chocolate.

I think anything like cake or crisps would be messy or smelly and would spoil the atmosphere 😂

Another one! How do you get through life if you can't eat a slice of cake or a pack of crisps without getting it all over yourself? How do you go to restaurants...do yout bring a change of clothes?

harrassedmumto3 · 05/02/2023 19:10

I love you, OP Grin

MinnieMountain · 05/02/2023 19:16

I haven’t had a soak for ages but I really fancy eating tiramisu in the bath now.

Bpickle1 · 05/02/2023 19:16

lwlies.com/articles/whats-so-great-about-harmony-korines-gummo/ Is this you OP?

Pleiades2020 · 05/02/2023 19:18

I just get the Tesco ones (Tiramisu). Probably not the best but it's more the act of eating one in the bath that seems decadent. Very occasionally accompanied by an Amarula but more often a mug of Roibush.

Frabbits · 05/02/2023 19:22

Eating anything in the bath is just grim.

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/02/2023 19:35

First time I ever bought a deep fat fryer, I made myself a bowl of chips for breakfast, which I had in the bath.

Wheretheskyisblue · 05/02/2023 19:43

Ice cream in the bath is good as it cools you down nicely. I especially like eating magnums in the bath.

I think part of the probrem with crisps is the bag, if they were in a little bowl they would seem more appealing to eat in the bath.

SallyWD · 05/02/2023 19:48

I knew people often had a glass of wine in the bath but I genuinely had no idea people ate in the bath! Sounds so unappealing and uncomfortable to me. Yuk!

CraneBoysMysteries · 05/02/2023 19:52

Those of you who have issue with the toilet being in the room (aside from the question of how unclean are your loos for this to worry you?), how do you square the fact that eating in the bath is gross but picking up an implement that sits in the room with the toilet while you poo, then picking it up and shoving it all around your teeth and gums is ok? 😊

Crisps in the bath is weird as is a fucking trifle.

CraneBoysMysteries · 05/02/2023 19:54

And this thread has actually sort of given me a 'bucket' list of things I need to try and eat in the bath 😂

Tiramisu
Anti pasta bowls
Fish and chips ( 🤢)
Big bowl of pasta
Magnum
Chinese food

I will work through these over the next few weeks
