Eating cake in the bath ok but crisps is gross?

Firstly, this is somewhat lighthearted

I enjoy a bath one night every week. It's a night my DH games and as long as both kids aren't ill, I also manage to have a nice relaxing bath. iPad with a good reality tv series, nice drink, long soak and a treat to eat. I usually get myself a yellow sticker item for post dinner yum. Trifle, piece of chocolate cake etc

Last night I was having my nice soak and hadn't picked anything up so I took up some wotsits.

DH sees me go upstairs with it and comments 'you're not having crisps in the bath are you?'.

I explained I hadn't had a chance to pick anything up and he didn't have a problem with my slice of black forest gateaux the week before

Then he sort of screws his nose up and says that cake or a nice dessert is an indulgence in the bath...but crisps is just a bit gross. He couldn't articulate why and admits the old flake advert from the 90s may have influenced his opinion.

So.. AIBU that both are fine to eat in the bath or is there something about some foods that just seem wrong while soaking

Folks, if you are of the anti eating anything in the bath then this is not for you my friends!

My latest is a small glass of port and intensely gingery dark chocolates in my bath. But I did have to sort out some mood lighting first. The day to day bathroom lights just arent very relaxing and definitely dont fit with a decadent bath and treat session.

DillDanding · 05/02/2023 13:36

I usually take a cup of tea. Maybe a glass of wine.

Don’t know why, but eating in the bath seems a bit weird and revolting.

UnctuousUnicorns · 05/02/2023 13:38

Actually, eating anything in the presence of an uncovered bumhole or fanj is just - unseemly. <hoiks bosom>

SwedishEdith · 05/02/2023 13:41

I think you need the giant Wotsits to retain any air of elegance because you can eat each one slowly. I never eat in the bath though and wonder if it is its close proximity to the toilet that makes it seem an off thing to do?

tangerinetreesandmarmaladeskies · 05/02/2023 13:43

I ate a bowl of pasta in the bath on Friday Grin

Chicagopd · 05/02/2023 13:45

I love crisps in the bath, I have them gar too regularly. I'm the other way around I find cake to be the weird thing!

RobertsRadio · 05/02/2023 13:47

I must admit I've never eaten whilst in the bath, I normally just have a gin and tonic, glass of wine or a big mug of tea, but now I'm thinking tea and biscuits or wine and nibbles sounds pretty ace.

I don't see the difference in cheesy wotsits or black forest gateau, it's all food and I think your DH's views are definitely screwed by the Cadbury's flake advert.

All together now "Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate, tastes like chocolate never tasted before".

DuplicateUserName · 05/02/2023 13:49

It's not gross but it is weird to eat anything in the bath IMO.

One Christmas Eve when I was 18, I rushed home from work and needed to get ready quickly to go clubbing.

I ate my KFC in the bath and even used the plastic bath rack my mum had...arranging the chicken, corn on the cob, fries and drink in a neat little line. Now that was bloody weird too!! 😂😂😂

DaveyJonesLocker · 05/02/2023 13:49

They're fine. I eat allsorts in the bath.

Reminds me of Pa and Ma Larkins (the original series) where they tuck into a fry up whilst both in the bath together. 😀

They could double up as a loofah to apply fake tan to one's back 🤔

Doesn't the liquorice make the water turn black?

ConfusedGin · 05/02/2023 13:52

I'm inclined to agree with your husband and also cannot articulate why.

Cake - fine
Ice cream - YES!!
Chocolates - of course

Some people eat cheese with their bath wine - not for me.

I have been known to order chips, never fries, and a glass of red wine via room service for a hotel bath but crisps? Nope, fundamentally wrong

AnnaTortoiseshell · 05/02/2023 13:54

Is it because he thinks your hands might be wet? Wet wotsits sound less than ideal.

I’m with you though, OP. Eating treats in a lovely hot bath is heaven. I’m so surprised that most people don’t do this!

I still think of the amazing bowl of pasta I made that I ate in the bath a while back. Never been able to recreate it!

Even toast in bed? Or are you one of these people who wears knickers to bed and never airs their undercarriage?

I think eating in the bath is fine, personally. At least any spillage is easily rinsed off afterwards. Cheese Doritos, glass of wine and a long soak is my idea of heaven.

I never bathe these days, I'm scared my arthritic knees would prevent me getting out, but when I did, I could happily spend 3 hours or so in there if I had a good book.

Mine was surprisingly good! I don't normally eat in the bath but I was exhausted from 7 hours of dog-walking and had an hour before I had to go and meet a friend so decided to kill two birds with one stone Grin

kitsuneghost · 05/02/2023 13:59

Sorry, both are weird.

mourndayclub · 05/02/2023 14:03

I regularly enjoy eating my lunch in the bath so I think any food is fair game!

RachelSq · 05/02/2023 14:05

I can see it’s a bit less indulgent but I’d do it.

I eat full meals in the bath sometimes, which my DH thinks is weird but accommodates by bringing them to me….

helpfulperson · 05/02/2023 14:08

a bath picnic is one of my favourite indulgences. I have one of those shelves that goes over the bath and have my glass of wine, some olives, cubes of cheese, crisps in a shallow tub and sometimes other antipasti type stuff. All cut up and in tubs so I can eat it one handed with my book in the other.

caringcarer · 05/02/2023 14:17

I don't eat in the bath. Just a nice glass of wine.

Bonjovispjs · 05/02/2023 14:22

I don't really see why you need to eat anything in the bath? I mean, how long are you there for that you can't wait until you get out? It's very weird.

SocksAndTheCity · 05/02/2023 14:51

Leftover Chinese takeaway was the last thing I ate in the bath. It was fabulous, although the prawn cracker I dropped didn't hold up too well.

Well clearly as she enjoys it. What a silly question. She likes to sit in the bath , have a drink and eat some crap. it’s clear she’s not doing it as she’s starving and can’t wait till she gets out the bath, she purposefully gets in the bath to eat. 😂

people do all manner of stuff I don’t do . I don’t eat and drink in bed, I don’t have a tv in the bedroom, I can’t imagine laying there watching telly and eating pizza. But folks do. And it’s not as they are so starving they can’t wait to eat till they get out of bed.
