Too = as well as

I hate it when people say Pacific, actually meaning specific.

I also hate people saying expresso instead of espresso.

AnchorWHAT · 04/02/2023 12:14

For me its loose when they mean lose drives me mad every bloody time.

ThreeLittleDots · 04/02/2023 12:16

I defiantly agree

Iwrotethelyricstoaxlf · 04/02/2023 12:16

Every time someone writes too instead of to I can’t help but read the sentence

eg. I can wait too go too the zoo

I can’t wait as well the zoo as well

It's slowly frying my brain.

maybe try some critical thinking about why adult literacy rates are suffering in the UK rather than bitching on Mumsnet?

This is the board for you. These posts are a thousand times more annoying than typos or grammar mistakes.

Do you think patronisingly pointing out the definitions will cure dyslexia?

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 04/02/2023 12:22

"He's" instead of "his", and "his" instead of "he's" always drives me mad - I have a lovely friend who constantly does this in texts, I'd never correct her because I'm not a complete bastard, but it still makes me wince!

leithreas · 04/02/2023 12:22

This annoys me two. Even my to year old could get it write.

seratoninmoonbeams · 04/02/2023 12:25

The one I'm noticing more and more is people mixing up generally and genuinely. "I generally felt really bad for them" grrrrrr

BaronessBomburst · 04/02/2023 12:26

Two sacks of potatoes will be too heavy to carry.
I learnt that at junior school and have never forgotten it.

Spanielsarepainless · 04/02/2023 12:28

Loose and lose are doing my head in on MN.
'How do I loose weight?' Well, just cut the rope.

Ignorance of the English language is not dyslexia. It's just ignorance.

titchy · 04/02/2023 12:32

'You need to add to two, too'

For me its loose when they mean lose drives me mad every bloody time.

I saw this in a published book last week. I don't mind mistakes and typos on a forum (especially one that lacks an edit button), but it annoys me when they appear in material that should have been extensively proof-read.

TulipTuesday · 04/02/2023 12:34

I often see ‘seen’ for seeing, and ‘been’ for being Confused

Bubblebubblebah · 04/02/2023 12:36

I actually think 'lose' is going to fall out of use in the very near future. Language evolves and I think that so few people seem to use 'lose' anymore that it's just becoming acceptable for 'loose' to be used instead.

FrangipaniBlue · 04/02/2023 12:44

the one I keep seeing is people "going for a wonder" or "had a lovely wonder to the park"

Dyslexia is one of the many reasons people make grammar mistakes. The point is you don't know the reasons and shouldn't judge.

It is most definitely not dyslexia in many cases.

I'm sorry two here this OP.

Dinoboymama · 04/02/2023 12:58

The fact that people say dyslexia is not a reason someone may make grammar mistakes says a lot about them.

They clearly do not know what dyslexia is. I know head teachers and doctors who are dyslexic and make these types of mistakes. No one points it out as you can still understand what is intended to be read.
