That's it. That's the post.

After two decades of absolute shite vacs - always purchased by the other resident adult -, now I have an amazing one (and a much, much cleaner house).

This has spurred me on to de-clutter some more and I am really happier about this than I ought to be.

It really does seem to be about the little things these days

Many apologies, I didn't say what I bought.

Please note that I did a PhD's worth of research (on here/Which?/YouTube/random searches) because I just can't cope with yet another crap hoover. I can't.

AND....

I bought the Miele C3 cat&dog corded & bag model. (also bought a shit-load of bags, I'm set for YEARS)

Why:

It has a HEP air filter taking dust out of the air
No more ~fucking mess~ emptying tiny chambers into the bin making even more mess/no washing filters grrrrrr
Extra long cord that winds itself in without taking your ankles off
East to maneuver
Has little bumper to stop furniture/paintwork getting banged up
All the nozzle bits that go on the end (upholstery/etc) are stowed on-board
Light
Tidy size
Stable
Makes satisfying clicks and snek type sounds when being assembled/parts changed out

Most NB - It could suck the actual sun out of the sky (but you can also turn it down if needed. Imagine. You can make it less powerful. This was a revelation).

I am very, very happy with it.

(I do have a robot but obviously we are pigs and Bernard just wasn't able. He might be happier now but mostly he got trapped under the sofa) and pushed dirt around

so yes it's a Miele.

Yes! I have a similar one - the C2 maybe, or C4. People rave about their Dysons and their Sharks and whatever, and I smugly revel in my small, easy, efficient cylinder vac. I inherited one from my gran and used it for years myself - probably 20yrs old when it died. I replaced it with almost exactly the same after weeks of research persuaded me out of the fancypants vacs everyone was encouraging me towards. That was 10 years ago. Still brilliant!

If you are interested, I also have a cordless handheld/stick/multi thing by Tineco (maybe called Hero or similar?) also bought after intense research, and I'm just as pleased with it. It doesn't have the suction of the Miele, but it does exactly the job I want it to very well. Bit indulgent to have 2 vacs, but there were reasons and I waited till it was on an Amazon Prime deal. So 2 brilliant vacs for significantly under £400.

Miele lover here too but longing for a little lightweight stick one for a quick whip round.

Miele do stick ones now, that's why they don't do the cat and dog uprights.

Miele are the biz. Mine is almost 20 years old and still going strong, although the lid hinge is a bit knackered on one side. When it packs up and dies I shall give it a bloody good send off, and purchase a new one which will probably outlive me.

lurchermummy · 03/02/2023 21:39

@BrioNotBiro now that IS a thing of beauty but £600!

MargotMoon · 03/02/2023 21:42

Also you can get knock off spare bags on homespares.co.uk for loads less than the branded bags (search for 'Miele type' or 'Bosch type' etc

BaileysBreakfast · 03/02/2023 21:43

I’ve had a Miele for 12 years and I still love it. It’s survived two babies/ toddler/ children and an extension build.

rwalker · 03/02/2023 21:49

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/02/2023 18:46

It'll be a Hoover Constellation.
I've always wanted one of those, for years and years and years.

Maytag made a modern version called satellite exactly the same

we had one when we were kids used to play air soccer with it

Glorieta · 03/02/2023 21:50

I have a mile blizzard c1 bought during lockdown as we were all home with nothing much to do.
Paid £249 from Amazon now also double in price

Fab hoover so powerful easy to empty but it is quite heavy to use

Fizbosshoes · 03/02/2023 21:52

On a similar theme, I am unreasonably happy with a new iron I bought recently!
I feel so old!🤣

RedRosie · 03/02/2023 22:01

We have a new Miele - the allergy version. It is replacing our old Miele (Cat and Dog) killed by our builders (I hid it but they found it anyway).

I luffs it. So much better than anything else (especially anything cordless) I've tried.

I think the tide is turning :-)

We were super smug abput our Shark because it was so much lighter and easier to get out and good for the stairs. Then after about 2 years a (totally replaceable seeming) interior part of the hose got a tear and local repair shop said it was impossible to fix because Shark didn't do spares. DH worked miracles and took the whole thing apart with great difficulty (it wasn't designed to be taken apart even though that would be have perfectly easy to design) and did buy a spare hose that fitted and got it to work again. It was super annoying because it fits our needs so well, but we're now also pissed off with Shark in general for designing vaccuums to be as hard to fix as possible so probably wouldn't buy another.

Hey?? You can literally buy every part possible for sharks!!! You can buy the bloody thing piece by piece if you want to!!

Echobelly · 03/02/2023 22:34

I know, it was odd because the repair guy was usually very good but he didn't seem to think it was fixable. As I said, they made it bloody hard when you did get the parts though!

SleekMamma · 03/02/2023 23:01

Hoover must hate that everyone calls all vaccum cleaners hoovers, ha!

Nope Miele shop definitely still in Bluewater and it was open.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 03/02/2023 23:08

My dh owned a Miele cat&dog when I met him in 2006. It’s been in its last legs a while now. He uses it to hoover without its head now 🙄 but, 17 years isn’t bad —needs the tip now—

marmaladepop · 03/02/2023 23:08

I've had a Miele cat and dog for about 10 years. They are fantastic.

CambsAlways · 03/02/2023 23:10

Got the same as you it’s great isn’t it op

AutumnIsMyFavouriteSeason · 03/02/2023 23:17

I've got the exact same one - bagless version (should I start an AMA? 🤔)

It's sheer magic, with no worries about replacing bags. Emptying it is a breeze and the dirt falls in a single climb straight into the bin.

It's all good, nothing to complain about.

fivepies · 03/02/2023 23:26

@ChilliBandit I have a Blizzard bagless Miele. Really happy with it, light, easy to manoeuvre and easy to empty. Previously I had a Miele vaccum (with bags) that lasted over a decade and on 3rd and 4th dogs. Wasn't sure about bagless but we got a great deal and now glad we did. Old attachments fit the new vacuum.

cushionfiend · 03/02/2023 23:32

I am sharing your vacuum joy! We also recently bought the Miele Cat & Dog one, it's bloody brilliant. Bought it to replace a Shark corded vacuum which was only a year old but was hands down the worst vacuum I've ever had the misfortune to purchase. I bought that one after reading lots of reviews saying how great Shark hoovers were - ha! So I was a bit nervous about buying the Miele in case we had a similar experience but it's really good.

Yep. I love my Sebo like a member of the family. More some days.

Grin I get that.

Mentioned we've got a Sebo at work one day. A colleague said 'yes, we're a Sebo family too'. It's like a secret club!

You might be able to have it brought back to health if you're so inclined: we sent our then-15yo Miele off to be fixed and serviced a few years ago. It returned with a new mis-coloured lid, because it was damaged and it was the only part they had left for it as it's no longer made, but was otherwise it was returned to 'early middle age' from 'at death's door'. 5 years later, it is still merrily chugging along, although I must admit I wish it would finally die soon so I can justify a new, more compact, whizzier one.

zingally · 04/02/2023 11:18

Oh I know the feeling! When I purchased my current dyson, it was to replace a crappy no-brand vacuum that I'd bought when I moved into my first ever adult place!
The first time I ran the dyson round was in equal parts disgusting and fascinating! My living room rug practically changed colour!

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 04/02/2023 11:35

I'm on my second Miele, the first was only about 5 years old but it got a bit knocked about when we moved house and sucked up a large amout of brick dust and plaster. I expect this one to go for years.

Always buy the Miele bags, the generic ones arent as good and seem to hidder tte suction power.

ChilliBandit · 04/02/2023 17:49

@fivepies thank you although I was kind of hoping someone would tell me they were crap so I’d move on to something cheaper! I went and had a look in John Lewis earlier and they do look great and well made.
