That's it. That's the post.

After two decades of absolute shite vacs - always purchased by the other resident adult -, now I have an amazing one (and a much, much cleaner house).

This has spurred me on to de-clutter some more and I am really happier about this than I ought to be.

It really does seem to be about the little things these days

My confession is I got mine through a review site and it cost me £100. But writing a review saved me £300

I was going for Miele or Sebo. Let's face it, it was never going to be a pile of shite Shark! If my Sebo ever dies (unlikely), I would definitely consider a Miele.

Yep. I love my Sebo like a member of the family. More some days.

We were super smug abput our Shark because it was so much lighter and easier to get out and good for the stairs. Then after about 2 years a (totally replaceable seeming) interior part of the hose got a tear and local repair shop said it was impossible to fix because Shark didn't do spares. DH worked miracles and took the whole thing apart with great difficulty (it wasn't designed to be taken apart even though that would be have perfectly easy to design) and did buy a spare hose that fitted and got it to work again. It was super annoying because it fits our needs so well, but we're now also pissed off with Shark in general for designing vaccuums to be as hard to fix as possible so probably wouldn't buy another.

Shark have a five year warranty so if you had bought direct or had proof of purchase they would have sorted it for you or sent a new one.

StarDog · 03/02/2023 20:00

20 years in and our Cat & Dog is still going strong after 4 dogs and a child and one new turbo brush! Bags aren't cheap but I treat it like an old dog - don't buy too many bags in case it dies on me and I'm left looking at the bags feeling bereft 😂

Agreed. My beloved SEBO is 24 years old and no sign of expiring.

larkstar · 03/02/2023 20:01

My Miele Cat & Dog might be 20 years old maybe. Still brilliant. I just bought a rechargeable Shark for quick runs around and I like that too but the Miele has the power for getting dog hair off the dog bed.

Catastrophejane · 03/02/2023 20:03

Knew it would be a Miele!

changed my life. I hate housework , but it makes me smile every time I see it!

This is not a confession, this would be a source of pride for me haha, how brilliant!

Baxdream · 03/02/2023 20:05

I just checked and they have the c2 for £60. No idea if it's any good but if you want one...I gain nothing from this by the way 😂

I had a Miele for about 10years. Various ones since DH hates Dyson but eventually I got a lighter model(lasted ages) then another I still have it and then the cordless, which I love.I have arthritis in my wrists so it is great for upstairs and the stairs. When the main one gives out I might just go back to the Miele as so many people are happy with it.
Thanks OP and many happy days vacuuming. If there is a small shop that does repairs as well as sales take them the old ones.I always take my old one in as he can then use it to repair other peoples. He usually knocks a tenner off any new purchase and we are both happy.Family firm well loved by people here. They used to let you pay them off monthly. Just had a book where they subtracted the amount every time you were able to pay some in. Trust!😁

Eastereggsboxedupready · 03/02/2023 20:14

Was discussing vaccum cleaners last week with a builder in my home.
He commented the one of gave him to use had a great suck.. And how it was the best one he had been offered..
End of conversation.
😱

Bernard 😂😂😂

Mines called Eddie

mbosnz · 03/02/2023 20:18

I'm a Miele C3 Cat and Dog girlfan too - I had one in NZ, and when I came over here, got the exact same model. They're fabulous!

LightSpeeds · 03/02/2023 20:19

I've been using Miele cleaners for decades. Love 'em. Well done!! 👍🏻

GuyFawkesDay · 03/02/2023 20:19

On our second Miele.
Wouldn't get anything else. We have a robot for daily whizz round but the Miele is a beast.

SleekMamma · 03/02/2023 20:21

Our miele is 15 years old. Still working perfectly. Bags aren't an issue, so much more hygienic than emptying out dust over the kitchen bin.

Can't lose the nozzles as they clip into the lid.

There is a Miele shop in Bluewater in Kent.

Battery won't degrade and stop randomly working, as it PLUGS IN.

ChilliBandit · 03/02/2023 20:27

We empty the vacuum directly into the outside bin, which are then cleaned every bin day so I don’t have an issue with that. I prefer bagless but I’ve never heard anything about the bagless Mieles.

BrioNotBiro · 03/02/2023 20:27

When the hose split on my old Miele upright Cat & Dog vacuum, so that it was not capable of doing the stairs, I was miffed to see they were no longer made.

I had to move on to a Sebo Pet upright which I'm very pleased with (and which is less heavy to lug round). So now I've I've got both, upstairs and downstairs, and I'm livin' the dream 😄

Baxdream · 03/02/2023 20:29

I think the Miele shop in Bluewater has gone unless I missed it last time I was there!

mightymam · 03/02/2023 20:31

YADNBU. I have two- one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. Love it.

Many apologies, I didn't say what I bought.

Please note that I did a PhD's worth of research (on here/Which?/YouTube/random searches) because I just can't cope with yet another crap hoover. I can't.

AND....

I bought the Miele C3 cat&dog corded & bag model. (also bought a shit-load of bags, I'm set for YEARS)

Why:

It has a HEP air filter taking dust out of the air
No more ~fucking mess~ emptying tiny chambers into the bin making even more mess/no washing filters grrrrrr
Extra long cord that winds itself in without taking your ankles off
East to maneuver
Has little bumper to stop furniture/paintwork getting banged up
All the nozzle bits that go on the end (upholstery/etc) are stowed on-board
Light
Tidy size
Stable
Makes satisfying clicks and snek type sounds when being assembled/parts changed out

Most NB - It could suck the actual sun out of the sky (but you can also turn it down if needed. Imagine. You can make it less powerful. This was a revelation).

I am very, very happy with it.

(I do have a robot but obviously we are pigs and Bernard just wasn't able. He might be happier now but mostly he got trapped under the sofa) and pushed dirt around

so yes it's a Miele.

This is the exact same one I have, and like the next pp, I too cheerfully chucked my cordless Dyson out of the window when I got my adorable 'cat and dog' home

Hello12345678910 · 03/02/2023 20:36

Definately not being unreasonable
I bought a robotic one - it's changed my life!

lborgia · 03/02/2023 20:46

@Ohifyouinsist - I had a man round cleaning the carpets last month.. he spotted the Sebo and I swear went into fawning mode. He said he hardly ever sees them and always knows a good customer when he does!

He then showed me the sebo he uses before he starts the washing bit, and said it was 10 years old and he's been using it commercially all this time!

I have two. The oldest is 22 years old.

merrymelodies · 03/02/2023 20:48

Miele is hands down the best one I've ever owned.

redtulip12 · 03/02/2023 21:03

I currently have this vacuum as well as a Shark corded upright, a robot, Bosch cordless and Dyson v11. We have too many and a couple need to go and sadly one of those will be my Miele. Whilst I can't fault its suction power I just don't get on with cylinder hoovers. But other than that it's a brilliant Hoover and the bags last ages. Enjoy!
