Is this in the USA?

I wondered that because of the spelling

dawngreen · 01/02/2023 16:03

Before getting on their bad side, find out what he/she is actually putting on YouTube. If they are stood on the public street with kids area behind them as far as I know they are not breaking any laws. I would try a friendly approach first as they might not even realise its an issue.

knittingaddict · 01/02/2023 16:03

Call me cynical, but I'm sure the op would have said "man" and "school playground" if that's what they have seen.

pinkyredrose · 01/02/2023 16:03

Which YouTuber is it?

If in the UK, you have not got the right to stop someone filming in a public place.

JudgeRudy · 01/02/2023 16:09

As others have said, you are perfectly entitled to ask but hes likely withinin hos rights to record in a public space (where theres no expectation of privacy). The law doesn't always work perfectly balancing rights to privacy v public liberties.
If you really want him to move on (and become someone else's problem) you need to make filming in this space unattractive. If he's eg filming gymnastic feats on the equipment or backflips/dancing on the grass there's nothing to stop you and a few friends being in his line of site. I couldn't think of anything more off putting than a middle aged mum eating a sandwich on the next swing. He will rely on others being impressed snd deferring to him pushing them out of shot etc. Don't forget your yellow shell suit and ballon. Clap too and say ''Awesome Dude" then hi 5 him

Assuming this is a playground in a public park in England or Wales, I would contact the council which owns the land and runs the park/playground. Most parks have bylaws which enable councils to prevent anti-social behaviour. If you present this to the council as a safeguarding issue (which it is) and are able to identify the individual involved/provide proof on YouTube then the council may step in.

JudgeRudy · 01/02/2023 16:11

Saltywalruss · 01/02/2023 15:05

Definitely ask them to stop. I don't know the law, but filming children you don't know and putting it on YouTube is a very strange thing to do.

@Saltywalruss
I doubt he's targeting the kids, they just happen to be in the same space as him.

WestBridgewater · 01/02/2023 16:12

They are probably filming their own children and others are in the background. I’m sure if you asked them to pixellate your child’s image they would.

JudgeRudy · 01/02/2023 16:14

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 01/02/2023 15:07

Shout Nonce Nonce and point at him.

I'd imagine that would deter him

Arguably that would be a public order offence. There's no indication or reasonable suspicion that he fits that category.

hydriotaphia · 01/02/2023 16:15

And obviously do not invite a mob against him by calling him a paedophile

HellcatSpangledShalalala · 01/02/2023 16:16

Why is everyone assuming it's a male?? For someone to be filming in a playground my main assumption would be that it's someone vlogging their day/kids and more likely to be a female.

Theemptychair23 · 01/02/2023 16:16

TheOriginalEmu · 01/02/2023 15:09

Weird you assume it’s a him.

There's a "well known youtuber" currently talking about this on his videos, so I doubt it's a coincidence.

helpfulperson · 01/02/2023 16:17

If videos with children in them weren't permitted that would mean a high percentage of YouTube videos being illegal.

JudgeRudy · 01/02/2023 16:18

2bazookas · 01/02/2023 15:34

I'd ask the local police to stop the local youtuber filming kids in the playground .

@2@2bazookas
On what legal grounds?

MittensForKittens123 · 01/02/2023 16:01

Years ago my friend who is a nature photographer was taking picture of a spiders web in a kids playground. He ended up being asked to show his photos to the police as a parent had called them and reported him as appearing to be wearing quick-release trousers - presumably for flashing - he obviously wasn’t, he was wearing normal jeans! I’m guessing the parent just didn’t feel comfortable with him having a camera near a playground. But it has made my friend feel anxious about taking photos where kids are. A shame for him and his art, but probably made the anxious parent feel better.

The Police had no right to even look at his phone. I would be making a formal complaint.

Why not just say who? Even more ridiculous than I thought then.

I would personally speak to the school about your concern. I know at my children’s school you are not allowed to film or take pictures inside the school but not sure where you stand with it being on the playground.

What can the school do really? This is so unnecessary and more trouble/work for the school. They can stop you filming in school but not a bloody random park.

Tiredalwaystired · 01/02/2023 16:24

When I was a kid this would have mostly led to excited kids going “oooh in on the telly!” If they were in a background of a shot.

is this any different to being in the background of a news report? Or even in the background of someone’s holiday snap?

is the You Tuber a person of concern? Or innocently filming outdoors?

DahliaMacNamara · 01/02/2023 16:31

You can buy quick-release trousers for flashing now? @MittensForKittens123

Verbena17 · 01/02/2023 16:31

My child once took part in a national event that happened in our town.
A few weeks later, I discovered a photographer had taken photos of the event (including my daughter on the winners stage) and was selling them.

I asked him to remove it as he hadn’t asked permission and although he said he would remove them, he did explain that anybody can take photos/film in a public space and sell that content without permission…..as long as the content is appropriate.

JauntyJinty · 01/02/2023 16:36

@JudgeRudy
"Don't forget your yellow shell suit and ballon. Clap too and say ''Awesome Dude" then hi 5 him"
That sounds like a good way to make absolutly certain the footage makes it onto youtube!

@MittensForKittens123
"The Police had no right to even look at his phone. I would be making a formal complaint."
The post just says they asked - asking is well within their powers! If I was taking innocent artisic photos and the police had reports there might be something untoward I'd happily show them to get everything sorted quickly and easily.

JauntyJinty · 01/02/2023 16:37

Doh - sorry didn't mean to tag you mitten!
