Royals should send their children to State schools

And politicians too. Just that really. I have nothing against private schools, but I think that if you head or represent a State you should proudly use the education it provides. Unless you think it is not good enough and then you should do something about it.

Agree.

Swiftswatch · 01/02/2023 07:29

What exactly can a member of the Royal family do about the quality of state schools?

HelicopterHeights · 01/02/2023 07:29

Why would they send their children to shit, failing schools? I don't want to send my children to state schools so why would I expect people with more money than me to?

Poppins2016 · 01/02/2023 07:30

And the NHS.

Although I think this is more relevant for politicians than royals.

PuttingDownRoots · 01/02/2023 07:33

Would hate to have a famous child at DDs school. Think about it... security checks, guards, more safety drills....

Politicians children maybe. But even then compelling someone to send their child to a certain school makes me uncomfortable.

silverclock222 · 01/02/2023 07:37

Yeah put your child at a massive risk if getting in the way of a kidnap plot etc

Whatislove82 · 01/02/2023 07:40

Each to their own and that includes the royals and politicians (unless of course calling for abolition of private!)

Like I wouldn’t expect royals and politicians to ONLY holiday in Uk to support our tourism; or buy UK manufactured food; buy a UK based car manufacturer etc etc

meetmeatmidnights · 01/02/2023 07:40

Why would people who can afford the alternatives put more pressure on a state funded system if they can alleviate that by going private? The extra tax payers money that would be spent on education all of the offspring of MPs alone would cost a fortune surely?

Madamecastafiore · 01/02/2023 07:42

Why do you think you should be able to tell someone where they can educate their child??

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 01/02/2023 07:43

Completely unrealistic. The additional security would be really hard for a state school to provide. Would you really want photographers camped outside your childs school, with the increased risk of security incidents? It's a private and personal choice to send your child to state vs private. If you're saving private schools should be abolished then 1. How is this paid for and 2. How do you avoid the best schools being priced out by insanely expensive housing

because they wouldn't be shit or failing if everyone had to send their children there.

Harrysutton · 01/02/2023 07:46

I’m just imagining a royal at our local comp. They wouldn’t last two minutes. Nope not realistic.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 01/02/2023 07:50

I can see the argument for politicians as they influence schools but not royals. They are born royal and do not choose the life, even Harry who has left is still a royal. Their life choices are controlled enough without having no control on education choices too. What would it achieve, they do not have political influence and with all the security implications it would cause huge problems for the local school they attended. I'm sure when they do look at schools the layout of the building and grounds and ease of providing security comes up in their considerations.

LadyHarmby · 01/02/2023 07:50

People should be able to send their children where they choose, including politicians and royals.

Possiblynotever · 01/02/2023 07:51

Frankly, the Royals have a very good following and they can do a lot in terms of changing education and healthcare.
The Princess of Wales just returned back with a campaign on the importance of early years...
Politicians are those that actually can and should change the system - why shouldn't they show their total commitment to what they provide?
Holidays are a different thing, but yes, I do expect politicians to take a fair amount of holidays in the UK.
And use British cars.
Like in other countries.
What is wrong with that?
I also do not second the fact that I cannot tell someone how they have to educate their child as they provide education and the health standards. They should stick by it.

In a fantasy la la land yes but in reality it would be a nightmare

But doesn't that just fuel the cycle of inequality? The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor (through lack of education/opportunities).

Playing devils advocate - I realise it's not that black and white!

00100001 · 01/02/2023 07:54

Imagine how few candidates you'd get if they were forced to so many things.

DarkForces · 01/02/2023 07:55

I don't think you can second yourself op. Someone else has to do that

gogohmm · 01/02/2023 07:57

It would be very tricky logistically. Some mp's kids are at state school btw, my old mps kids attended my kids old primary.

Prince George did attend a normal nursery school, technically private but most are, but a regular one, don't know much about their prep school but it's near their house I think. Don't think it's realistic to send to a normal school for security reasons

Because the people who can afford the independent sector are the very same people that could and would put pressure on the government to increase spending in schools.
They're also the kid who that can send money to the school.

So a man I know funds a TA in a school, where they couldn't afford it. So he donates the money to pay for one.

Gymrabbit · 01/02/2023 07:59

I do prefer it if politicians send their children to state schools (just like I prefer politicians who attended state schools themselves, particularly education secretaries).

However, even if they send them to state they have the money and influence to send them to the very best state schools so their kids aren’t having the same experience as other kids anyway. Blair was a good example of this- sent kids to the state school the London Oratory which selects through exam and interview so ends up being more private in its demographic than most private schools!

I have a major issue with those campaigning for the end of private schools who are quite happy to send their kids there (Diane Abbot!)
and respect Jeremy Corbyn for making a stand on this household.

Cocochai · 01/02/2023 07:59

If an ideal world yes, but would you really want your child’s school to be overrun with security measures/personnel, photographers stalking the school run times etc?

My child goes to a state school but we were picky about where he went and so can the Royals and politicians, if they so wish. Just because you’re a Royal/politician doesn’t mean the British public get to dictate that your child can only go to a state school, holidays in the UK, only drive a British car etc.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 01/02/2023 08:00

Strongly agree that politicians should. What does it say about about them if they don’t think the state system is good enough for their children?
I’d be rid of the royals so don’t care where they send their children.

x2boys · 01/02/2023 08:02

Have m.a republican ,but even I can see that this would not work they supervised a huge amount of security ,and it would be massively disruptive to the school and.other pupils have photographers turning up and locals wanting to get a glimpse of W&K,etc
