People noises

To think that "look at me" sneezes are completely unnecessary? Surely no one naturally sneezes loud enough for the windows to rattle?

See also, burps. I don't understand that anyone NEEDS to produce lip trembling burps like Barney in The Simpsons. Everyone can get a bit burpy sure, so no issues with that but why do some people seem to make such a performance out of it? Do they expect an applause when they mutter "excuse me" afterwards? No, I do not excuse you.

Yes I was in the office today and yes the list of why I hate other people noises is growing. I make none my myself you see.

I’ve found that as I’ve got older I sneeze louder, so much so that my kids complain, but there’s nothing I can do about it.

Ketzele · 31/01/2023 22:26

I would love to be a ladylike sneezer, but mine nearly blow my head off. I don't know of any way to stop that - if you do, please share!

Not guilty on the burps, though.

XenoBitch · 31/01/2023 22:28

People wo do delicate little squeaky sneezes piss me off more for some reason.

Wafflehouse · 31/01/2023 22:29

I’m a loud sneezer, I wish I wasn’t but can’t do much about it. I work with someone who sits in the break room sucking his food out of his teeth. After every mouthful. I’d take a noisy sneeze over that. It’s pretty disgusting.

GettingStuffed · 31/01/2023 22:31

My sneezes are not only loud but also very high pitch. It actually hurts. I'd love to know how else I can do it.

TrickorTreacle · 31/01/2023 22:32

Absolutely agree with this!

WFHbore2023 · 31/01/2023 22:32

If I ever leave my partner it'll be because of his sneezes.

DuesToTheDirt · 31/01/2023 22:33

You sneeze how you sneeze, I don't think it's someting people can control.

Beyonsp · 31/01/2023 22:39

My sneezes are loud and painful tbh, I hate the noise I make but it is what it is, I'd love to do a gentle achoo.

Anyotherdude · 31/01/2023 22:43

There’s a reason why a sneeze is described as an involuntary expulsion of air caused by irritation of the nostrils, OP. It’s not always controllable. YABU

EmmiJay · 31/01/2023 22:43

I'm an annoying "tew tew tew" sneezer as in I don't sneeze once, but I sneeze about 8 times at mouse volume and then sigh. My burps are hisses also😅 Dramatic sneezers and burpers actually make me jump!

Catnary · 31/01/2023 22:45

DH is a ridiculously loud sneezer. Claims he can’t help it. My arse.

Fortunately he is not a burper and his farts are bearable, so two out of three ain’t bad.

TheShellBeach · 31/01/2023 22:48

DuesToTheDirt · 31/01/2023 22:33

You sneeze how you sneeze, I don't think it's someting people can control.

My sister had a ridiculously loud sneeze until her grandchild was born.
The first time that child burst into terrified sobs after one of my sister's ridiculous sneezes was the last time my sister did it.

Mayalinaballerina · 31/01/2023 22:49

Loud sneezers annoy me. I can control mine easily so I don't understand how others can't - my otherwise lovely husband tells me it hurts if he tries to control a sneeze! I don't believe it 😁

Not as bad as someone who whistles incessantly though.

Songbird54321 · 31/01/2023 22:54

I'd consider myself a normal sneezer, not loud but not squeaky either.
I only really burp after I've eaten far too much or downed a drink but as long as I keep my mouth closed it's more a rumble rather than a big nasty belch. I definitely think a burp can be controlled. Unsure on the sneeze.
I work with a woman who does the loudest sneeze I've ever heard. I'd say it was for attention but she doesn't bat an eyelid and just goes back to what she was doing after so unlikely

JudgeRinderonTinder · 31/01/2023 22:55

I am genuinely a loud sneezer and can’t help it, they just seem to come out with such force! I do try to be quieter and sometimes it works but others not.

With burps, surely this depends on how much trapped wind someone has? I have no control over how loud a burp is really, unless I guzzle a lot of fizzy drink at once then maybe it would be louder, but I don’t do that. Burps are similar to farts, some are louder than others.

What annoys me are performative vomiters, usually men, who appear to make the loudest heaving noises humanly possible when being sick just to let everyone in the house know how Ill they are and seek sympathy. 😂 Maybe I’m being harsh there, maybe some people just heave with force, but I’ve never know a woman to make as much noise being sick!

minorproblem · 31/01/2023 22:55

are anyone else's farts getting louder? I used to laugh at my mum when she farted but now I make the same ones!
I can't control my sneezes anymore because I snot everywhere when I do! noise is preferable.

swapcicles · 31/01/2023 22:56

I can control sneezes, must be the many years or retail/hospitality!
You simply can't let out a loud waaaachooooo! whilst carrying plates of food or talking to a customer.
I can even inwardly sneeze though I heard someone once broke a bone in their neck doing so but needs must sometimes.

YukoandHiro · 31/01/2023 23:00

Some of this is genetic. I've always had a loud sneeze. Funnily enough it sounds just like my dad

YukoandHiro · 31/01/2023 23:01

Oh god yeah people who sound like someone trod on a mouse when they sneeze are the worst

JoonT · 31/01/2023 23:07

The older I get, the more I hate ‘people noises’. I have become hyper-irritable, which really isn’t fair, since the people I work with are a nice bunch, probably the nicest I’ve ever worked with.

Actually, it isn’t just people noises, it’s noise full stop. I don’t know what is wrong with me, but I find all noise unbearable. If a car backfires, or a child screams, I jump out of my skin. It’s like my nervous system is permanently close to breaking point. Modern Britain is just too noisy and crowded for me. I really feel like the noise and traffic and lack of space is overloading people and burning them out.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 01/02/2023 19:03

I love a loud sneeze! Those silly little hiccup style ones that people do are more annoying.

Besides, at my age I need a loud noise to cover up the inevitable fart that accompanies the sneeze 🤣🤪😳

Exasperatednow · 01/02/2023 19:07

I'm a lady like sneezer but once I started sneezing I often sneeze about 8 times. It's entirely uncontrollable and...I sneeze frequently...

But I do agree in terms of burping and breathing...looks sideways at DH

DerekFaker · 01/02/2023 19:09

DuesToTheDirt · 31/01/2023 22:33

You sneeze how you sneeze, I don't think it's someting people can control.

No it isn't. Believe me I've tried!

Burping is another matter altogether .

discobrain · 01/02/2023 19:17

The human body is capable of creating brilliant noises and I celebrate them all.
