Not to believe Johnson about Putin

Zonder · 30/01/2023 22:24

Does anyone? Doesn't it seem odd he has suddenly told this story? Is he just being wheeled out to deflect from Zahawi? Is he just trying to get attention? Or has he just remembered the story and feels it needs to be told?

So, IABU - brave Johnson, must have been a bit scary to get a phone call like that
IANBU - load of piffle to distract us all

Lie after lie. Dont believe anything he says

RobinRobinMouse · 31/01/2023 05:42

He lied about everything else, so likely to have done so about this too.

Flavabobble · 31/01/2023 06:13

Let's see, one is a narcissistic, self-serving, gibbering swankpot liar.
The other's Putin.
Did it happen? He says it did so I'm inclined to think not.

Malariahilaria · 31/01/2023 06:16

I assumed he was lying to get attention, I'm just annoyed at how excited the media gets everytime he speaks. Please just ignore him and his bezzie Trump and let politics be dull again.

GoodChat · 31/01/2023 06:23

It's probably true because who wouldn't want to nuke Boris if you had the means.

Then again, you'd think he'd have learnt his lesson after Truss upset the Russians by basically telling people to go to Ukraine to fight if they want (before she pretended she hadn't).

Toomanybooks22 · 31/01/2023 06:33

The choice is to believe Boris or Putin's version, whilst either is distasteful, I would lean to say there is more likelihood that Putin probably did say a version of what Boris recounted. It's telling that when Putin responds, he has not said "I didn't say this, I said that..." he says I didn't say it at all. I think this lack of intricacy probably does indicate he said it or a version similar to what Boris said.

mamabear715 · 31/01/2023 06:35

I absolutely DO believe Johnson.

Clutterbugsmum · 31/01/2023 06:46

I don't believe Boris, not because he said it happen but because Putin may be stupid but he is not an idiot.

Putin knows if he had done anything to Boris (Or any other world leader) then i would be an act of war, and Putin doesn't want the rest of the World fighting against him.

mamabear715 · 31/01/2023 06:48

@Clutterbugsmum The world is terrified of Putin. He's insane & he has nuclear weapons.. who wants to offend him?

TokyoSushi · 31/01/2023 06:51

It's a clip from a really good programme Putin vs the West on BBC2 rather than him just coming out and saying it.

Who knows if it's true though, with Johnson you never can tell.

Agreed I was watching it earlier, I really do recommend the series, all episodes on iplayer now

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/01/2023 07:11

I think it's true but taken out of context.
A bit like when someone says "...I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you."
They don't really mean it, well so far they haven't.

Zonder · 31/01/2023 07:17

Well this is an interesting tweet, posted on the Sunak thread. No mention of a threat and a different spin on what Johnson reckons he said about Ukraine joining NATO.

It's like listening to a 5 year old tell you about an incident in the playground, and embellishing it with every retelling.

If it's not true (which I suspect) it's a stupid and dangerous lie, guaranteed to wind up the more gung ho members of the public. Boris has caused so much damage to the country why be surprised if his swan song is to escalate a war.

LAlady · 31/01/2023 07:22

He tells so many lies, I add that to the (extensive) collection !

Exasperatednow · 31/01/2023 07:23

I don't believe him and also a stupid thing to say from a uk perspective - see Russia/Putin's statement. The man is a narcissist.

Flavabobble · 31/01/2023 07:23

"Dialogue and diplomacy" Does Boris Johnson know what either of those are?

xeraco · 31/01/2023 07:28

I can't believe that world leaders' phone calls are not recorded...

Hmmph · 31/01/2023 07:38

After his "help" as Foreign secretary with Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's sentence, I am slightly concerned with his diplomatic effects in this call about Ukraine and NATO.

There's every possibility that he didn't help the precarious situation when Putin was still thinking about invading.

After all, BJ had been positioning himself with Zelenskyy before and the invasion suited BJ politically. Or his words weren't deliberate and he was just careless with what he said.

He is such a liability that I don't trust to tell the truth or to not have said something stupid. That actually equally applies to him and Putin.

londonrach · 31/01/2023 07:43

I believe it as Putin pure evil.

A man goes into heaven and there he meets Jesus.
He asks Jesus what that broken clock is there for. Jesus says "that is Mother Teresa's clock it has never moved because she has never lied".
"There is Abraham Lincolns clock. He has .lied twice so it has moved twice."
"Where is Boris Johnson's?" ask's the man. Jesus answers "it is in my office, I am using it as a ceiling fan."

I heard that joke before - but instead of Boris Johnson it was about an ex Irish Prime Minister.
Smile

Greenfairydust · 31/01/2023 08:06

I never believe anything that man says...

Starlightstarbright1 · 31/01/2023 08:09

My immediate reaction when i read the headlines- Putin says Boris is a liar - well we knew that.

EsmeSusanOgg · 31/01/2023 08:19

I don't like Bojo, but I could believe Putin said this.

EzzieM · 31/01/2023 08:27

ilovesooty · 30/01/2023 22:39

I don't believe anything he says about anything.
