What's the max you would spend (as a guest) on attending a hen party?

Not sure what is a reasonable amount these days - I'm thinking £100, but concerned I'm being tight. The wedding itself is a destination one in Europe, so have already paid a fair amount on travel and hotel.

Around £30

meetmeatmidnights · 26/01/2023 19:32

I mean it cost us £1k to attend a wedding last year 😂 so for a hen do maybe £500? £200 hotel, £300 food and drink? I'm not sure! Drinks are £10+ now so nothing goes far anymore!

tornadoinsideoutfig · 26/01/2023 19:35

£20 for drinks on night out at the pub. No interest in hen's weekend type activities!

latetothefisting · 26/01/2023 19:35

You're asking the wrong place - MN HATES hen dos!
As replies tend to be from people who either last went to one 30 years ago (when "going to the local pub") was the standard or hate the whole idea so would resent paying anything you're not going to get the most balanced or realistic responses.

Personally it's impossible to say because it depends so much on the variables -I'd be much happier to pay £500 for a nice hotel somewhere I'd wanted to visit in Europe, for example than £100 to share a pull out sofa in butlins!

If people don't like the cost or proposed events they can just say no to the invite, rather than moaning about it!

Unless soft drinks you don’t get many drinks for a night out for 20 quid. Wouldn’t it be better to say I don’t get, invited and wouldn’t wish to go/😂

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/01/2023 19:56

I'm really shocked at how much people would pay!

That said my best friends hen do last year I probably spent around £150 (spa hotel, train fare and meal out.)

If I ever got married (unlikely tbf) I would be too embarrassed to ask my friends to pay that much, I would do a night out in the local city, people can spend what they can afford.

Summerishere123 · 26/01/2023 20:06

My sister's hen is costing me around £400. Wedding another £500.

Comefromaway · 26/01/2023 20:08

£50

I don't drink a lot, £20 would be four pints of cider which would be over my limit, I would alternate half pints with lime and soda. I'd still enjoy a night out, I don't think you have to refuse an invite just because you aren't a big drinker!

Swiftswatch · 26/01/2023 20:10

I would generally have spent about £500 all in for a hen, including hotel, flights, activities and spending money.
The hens in my circle have mostly been a tight group of people who all know and like each other and are happy to get a weekend away together!

mamabear715 · 26/01/2023 20:12

It gets crazier & crazier..
But then I hate anything like that so would stay home & enjoy being a slob!

Comefromaway · 26/01/2023 20:13

Same here. I would have 2-3 small glasses of wine alternated with water. (2 glasses and I’m merry, 3 and I’m a gonner)

Riverlee · 26/01/2023 20:13

If the wedding is a destination one, then maybe £50 on a meal out. I wouldn’t expect another trip away.

£100 isn’t too bad if that’s everything included - meals, drinks, and accomodation if an overnight stay is needed,

TinDogTavern · 26/01/2023 20:14

£0. Can't be even slightly arsed about hen do's.

StampOnTheGround · 26/01/2023 20:14

£200-300 usually for 2 nights somewhere

Swiftswatch · 26/01/2023 20:15

AuntieMarys · 26/01/2023 19:26

I wouldnt go full stop.

I’m sure you’re batting away the invites!

autienotnaughty · 26/01/2023 20:19

It depends what it is. Id budget accommodation £100 per night. Activities around £100. Food and drink £100 per day so one night away £300. Two nights £500.

Passivhaus · 26/01/2023 20:19

I'd pay money to avoid that shit

autienotnaughty · 26/01/2023 20:22

My sils wedding cost us -
Stag/hen do £800
Outfits x5 for wedding £600
Accommodation £200
Gift £80
Spends on day (alcohol) £100

TheChosenTwo · 26/01/2023 20:28

I bloody love a hen do and I’m gutted to have never been invited to one abroad! I’d be there like a shot 😂 time away from being mum, no work, day drinking, hopefully sun!!!
Anyway, I don’t think I’d say I have a limit of what I’d pay but I would only attend something more elaborate than a night at a nearby venue etc for someone I deemed a close friend/family. I’ve been invited to hen dos before where I was definitely invited to ‘make up the numbers’ - and i went to one because I was good friends with her sister and it was in the next city so not really out of my way and didn’t cost more than £100 or so really.
to be spending any more than that I’d want it to be someone I was close to.

MumofSpud · 26/01/2023 20:32

I am Shock as have only ever been to one hen do and it was 25+ years ago so a meal out

GlassBunion · 26/01/2023 20:32

I'd never attend a hen party that would cost me over £100. In fact, I'd like the change for a taxi/ train fare.

But I'm old.

My daughter and two nephews are looking to do quiet , gentle hen dos/stags that don't involve flying anywhere or drinking yourselves stupid. In fact they're all planning really lovely dos.

JustKeepSlimming · 26/01/2023 20:41

Dinner and a couple of drinks, plus a taxi home and my share of the bride's meal. So about £50 and 4 hours of my time. And that's if it's a good friend.

Favouritefruits · 26/01/2023 20:44

£50 times are hard, I’d even begrudge paying that.

AuntieMarys · 26/01/2023 20:46

Swiftswatch · 26/01/2023 20:15

Indeed I have done in the past. Ditto baby showers.
