Circumcision

I was thoroughly abused by several English mums of my acquaintance for having my sons circumcised at birth. Although I did my research and found it to be better from a number of perspectives, nothing would convince them it was reasonable. I am wondering if they will retract their accusations now that it has been revealed that Diana, saintliest of all mothers, had both her boys circumcised ...

OP, you know that citing partial statistics like that without actual numbers is meaningless right?

A decreased risk of something sounds great... lets say chopping off baby foreskins has shown to decrease the risk of the baby getting galloping willy disease..

Fabulous.

But if the actual risk of catching galloping willy disease was 2 in 10 billion... and the risk of circumcised babies catching it is 1 in 10 billion... thats not a significant reduction is it. Its small enough to be meaningless really, even though you could genuinely say it has halved the risk, because the real risk was never significant in the first place.

I'll let someone better at maths than I look at your other statistics, but they are bollocks, they do not remotely mean what you think they mean.

I couldn't give a flying fuck what the royals do, if I had a male child, I would not cut bits of him off for such spurious reasons as 'he might get a sore smeggy dick if he doesn't wash' and 'he might spread more diseases if he doesn't use protection and practice safe sex'.

A full double mastectomy can drastically reduce the chances of a female developing breast cancer. Boobs aren't absolutely necessary, especially considering there is formula widely available. You also won't suffer from under boob sweat rashes (it's cleaner!), a bad back from too large a cleavage, and of course, bras would not be required, saving you a fortune. Might be a good idea to start advocating for pre-teen mastectomies.

You’re right. This is some irony. One reason I can’t get breast reduction approved on the NHS is because it might inhibit breastfeeding even though I don’t want any more children. This is despite years of physio making clear my breasts are the problem, constant pain, rashes, skin sores, complete inability to exercise properly, thousands spent on bras… Yet, cutting off a fully functioning body part of a newborn baby is absolutely fine? Baffling!

That was 40 years ago 😳

My brother born in the early 60s was circumcised in the UK. It wasn't uncommon then. Increasingly infant circumcision is unusual in the UK, as the very obvious fact that it is a ritual with zero medical justification in most cases becomes clear.

I had my son circumcised and I regret it. Which perhaps puts me in an unusual position.

Are you sure about those trends? I thought more boys were being circumcised now not less, possible due to widening ethic and cultural diversity. I know its more common in US for white non Jews than it is here.

Anyone know for sure? BTW, where would you actually get this done if there was no medical reason? Do you pay for a private Dr or Nurse?

EyesOnThePies · 26/01/2023 21:19

That Charles and Diana circumcised their sons makes me think the RF are even more dysfunctional. Apparently it is very common amongst the aristocracy.

Nothing wrong with the appearance of a foreskin. Pretty shocking to body shame any natural state.

Any man who can’t keep clean, and safe from STDs is getting nowhere near me!

Do people change opinions because of princess Diana?
odd

Well I always wear a seatbelt.

Oh hang on. I always have.

I don’t give 2 hoots what famous people have or have not been circumcised.
My view will never change: unless there is a specific medical reason, circumcision should never take place without the informed consent of the person whose genitalia are being hacked away at.

Does anyone know (read) why Diana did it not being Jewish?

Probably in Harry's book somewhere with a nice pic!

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 26/01/2023 21:27

If any of those "benefits" are true then adult men can do their research and choose to have it done with full informed consent if they want to.
Forcing it on an infant? Because it "looks better"? Nope.

I think that Charles had his son circumcised...

absolutely this. Why is Diana automatically blamed? However I'm not saying Charles should be automatically blamed either. Who knows, apart from Charles now, what the reasons would be. Also why are we assuming that Harry is actually telling the truth?

LavenderLaughs · 26/01/2023 21:34

I would have soon have had my son’s earlobes cut off as his foreskin. Both possibly redundant bits of flesh that he might never miss, but who am I to make that decision for him?

ElonsMusky · 26/01/2023 21:34

we had my son circumcised. My husband is circumcised. I mostly deferred to him on the decision since he has those parts. Uncut dicks are gross and it's a utter myth that there's any difference is sex.

Oigetoffmylawn · 26/01/2023 21:35

NeedMoMoney · 26/01/2023 19:02

But If their old enough to have sex wouldn't wearing condoms prevent this?

And also old enough to consent to circumcision.

Circumcising babies is just wrong, unless for medical need. Choosing to be circumcised as an adult, for any reason, is fine.

How are clean uncut dicks gross?

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 26/01/2023 21:36

Dh was circumcised as a child for religious reasons. He is happy with it. Had no issues and is very happy with his sex life. Its not a negative experience for everyone. Just giving a second perspective based on experience
Not looking to argue if its right or wrong or not

I'm sure they didn't have equal say in the matter. I really doubt Diana could have vetoed it if it was royal family tradition.

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 26/01/2023 21:37

Also all those saying men can wear condoms. Yes they can. And they should. Bit how many young lads would not use one at the drop of a hat. Let's be honest. A lot of them say the same shit, that ir reduces serial pleasure. That's a load of crap too.

LaLuz7 · 26/01/2023 21:38

Body shaming is not on.

Grow up babe

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 26/01/2023 21:38

Sexual pleasure. Damn auto correct!

What are the 'number of perspectives' that it's better for?!

It's not a negative experience for everyone, but it is to some. How many babies is it acceptable to experience horrible side effects from botched cosmetic surgery they didn't consent to?

If you don't have a dick then how on earth do you know?!

And stop body shaming. There is nothing wrong or unclean with uncircumcised penises.

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 26/01/2023 21:44

I was just stating a fact @LaLuz7 That it's not negative for everyone. There may be some parents on here who have done it for medical reasons or need to and everyone's shouting that their babies sex life will be ruined as an adult. It's not strictly the case
I'm just putting another experience out there for those who would like to know

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/01/2023 21:47

My DP is circumcised, for medical reasons as a 7 year old.

He's not particularly happy about it now as an adult, but he had no real choice in the matter as a child in the 80's.

As a person who has experienced sex with both circumcised and uncircumcised I am confident that the uncut version has far more sensitivity and far more pleasure derived from that sensitivity.
