I usually have the same woman collect, iron and return my ironing every 2/3 weeks. Have used her for a year now and prior to that for 3 years, the same company as she bought them out iykiwm...

Well the lasy few times she comes she makes me feel bad for giving her my ironing . Comments "my what a load", "why do you always have so much washing" etc.....

Just fecks me off really....I know I could go elsewhere BUT tbh I have got stuck in a rut with it iykwim.....

Im also slightly miffed as the last lot that went 3 weeks ago, around 8 items went missing..thing is I never realised and called her for a differnt issue only for her to answer the phone with "oh are you calling about your missing washing" Told her I never realised..to which she replied "oh thats because you have no many clothes" . Told me she was delayed in bringing it back as she was busy...(I only found out 5 days after returned ironing YET it took her another 2 days to return it..)

DH thinks shes trying to slying do away with stuff.....but I am to trusting....

FFS, I have dh, me, a toddler and 1 yr old so how much washing does she think is created..?

If you're not happy then change but I think you should maybe tell her why you are changing. If she's running a business you'd think she'd be glad of customers with loads of ironing = more profit!!

comfytoast · 06/02/2008 14:56

Be careful mu mum had an ironing lady and she lost some items of ours when we were small.

mum just put it down to bad luck until she bumped into ironing lady and her dd was kitted out in one of our outfits

She laughs about it now but then

Shhhh · 06/02/2008 15:03

see, there have been times I have wondered..."Im sure I have loads more tops etc" but had little time to look into it further iykwim, then usually remembered when the next batch was returned, and said items were found..Not sure if I didn't look properly or if it was not returned with the last batch iykwim.....

My clothing is not all designer BUT dh's and the lo's have several designer items........so it does make me wonder...

Im to soft though to stop using her and even to confront her and tell her..just trusted her and expected her to be trustworthy doing the job she does. It may be a one off.....
Comfytoast, thats shocking. Thats my concern, that half my villlage could be wearing said clothes.!

This time I have counted exactly how many items have gone for each of us......

If you are not happy or don't trust her I would find someone else.

Lulumama · 06/02/2008 15:08

if she says' you calling about your missing washing ' before you ask about it, tehn there is a problem.

Mikafan · 06/02/2008 15:08

I would find someone else. I think she's got a bloody cheek questioning you. Your paying her for a service, its not her place to be making comments like that

Yeni · 06/02/2008 15:14

I'd look for somebody else. What a strange way to run a business!

ChampagneSupernova · 06/02/2008 15:16

comfytoast

Shhhh · 06/02/2008 15:32

I agree its cheeky saying stuff like that...she irons and I pay her so tbh I don't see the problem....

She commented around christmas time that everyone seems to call her for ironing to be done around the same week...I suggested a voucher to selected few regulars saying "if you have ironing done weeks x and x then you will got a one off discount of..10% etc". Then at least the hope is that they will continue the pattern keeping you busy all month iykwim...to much hard work for her...

well, eveyone is saying finish her..just makes me feel guilty....what if it was a one off..??

you need to find someone else. this is not on and she knows it. shes just being lazy

Anna8888 · 06/02/2008 15:39

Why don't you look for someone to come round to your house to do the ironing - I have a woman every Monday morning and her first task is the week's ironing. That way I can supervise what's going on. After that she hoovers, dusts, cleans bathrooms and loos - depending on time left over from ironing.

nailpolish · 06/02/2008 15:47

oh god if i did ironing once a week i wouldnt be able to get in the door
nor would i ahve anything to wear - itd all be in the ironing basket

Anna8888 · 06/02/2008 15:49

Gosh, what a lot of ironing you must have nailpolish - we really don't have much - though I do tumble dry all the children's clothes and finish them off on hangers so they don't really need ironing.

nailpolish · 06/02/2008 15:50

i think i am anal about ironing anna - i iron everything!

nailpolish · 06/02/2008 15:50

i like ironing
its very soothing

miobombino · 06/02/2008 15:56

If you have no option but to keep her on, then I'd do that little list from now on: "Here you are Doreen, it's my new spring cleaning resolution to be more organised, then I can keep up with what's here/with you", you could say cheerily.

But I have to say she reminds me of a window-cleaning father and son who came round actually soliciting for work, to which i agreed, yet after a visit or two were constantly saying "Wow, there are so many windows here, it's really hard work". I don't use them any more and it's liberating

Heated · 06/02/2008 16:04

I'd find another ironing lady. You paying for a reliable service which you aren't getting.

jasper · 06/02/2008 16:19

waaah! bad ironing lady!
Change!

chocchipcookie · 06/02/2008 17:26

Change because these situations never get better, they only get worse. Sounds like she has some problem with you and is a bit passive-aggressive. Once you change you'll wonder why you put up with it.

Anna8888 · 06/02/2008 20:14

nailpolish - ironing as therapy?

Doesn't do it for me . I hate ironing .

beckystaffs · 06/02/2008 20:53

Hello sorry to interupt- but ironing is very satifyig- to know that you have completed a week's worth of clothers etc...
.....but then disheartening when a few days later it's back to the same height in the ironing basket.

I have to do a week's worth in one go, otherwise, i feel like i'm constantly ironing.

Anna8888 · 06/02/2008 21:02

That's partly why I hate it - the never-endingness of it . But basically I just usually find it deathly dull .

bozza · 06/02/2008 21:06

But all aspects of housework are pretty much never ending IME. If I had a cleaning lady though, like you, Anna, she would start with the cleaning, and only then do the ironing. But I know it is an each to their own situation.

Unfitmother · 06/02/2008 21:11

I hate ironing and don't do it, that's what a tumble dryer is for!

As regards OP problem if you're not happy change. I finnishd 2 cleaners beore I got one that was sane. The first one was nuts and really got me down, I felt much happier when I got rid!

jelliebelly · 06/02/2008 21:12

If you aren't going to change and she doesn't seem to like so much ironing in one go why not use her every week - it would be easier for you to keep tabs on what clothes she's got then too
