To ask how I can keep us safe?

My home was broken into 1.5 years ago and I was assaulted. The perpetrator is still unknown, he was masked and wearing gloves.

In the months following that I had someone enter my garden on multiple occasions and stickers placed in my garden.

Since July I have been receiving calls from an unknown number. It's a man who's voice I don't recognise. He knows my name. Sometimes he just breathes down the phone, sometimes he says sexual things.

I don't answer the calls anymore.

Contacted the police and they tracked the caller, they told me he is known to police and considered "not a very nice person at all". They said I can either do nothing or they can send him a letter.

Since this I have moved in with my parents. I live alone with DS.

I want to move home. What can I do to keep us safe in terms of cameras, lights etc. Any suggestions?

AIBU to go back home or do you think I should move house permanently? It will be really difficult for me to day so.

That it's all the same person.... Or a bloody massive coincidence. I'm not sure why the police are being dismissive.

I would move and have a Ring camera door bell or similar. You can get multiple cameras to cover more than just the front door.

German shepherds make good pets but look more threatening than most small dogs. We’ve had them for years.

Jarstastic · 26/01/2023 22:39

I’m sorry you’ve been through this awful experience.

The ring system is good and relatively inexpensive get a doorbell and you can buy a floodlight with camera for £120 on Amazon. Easy to diy wire as well if you have any existing outside lights you can simply replace. I’d try and get as many as possible and keep testing for blind spots.

It all Ring you just pay one monthly sub and can monitor from phones and computers.

dog wise I’d go for a big black Labrador.

id still have a landline if you ever need to phone 999 they know exactly where you are. With a mobile it’s to the latest cell. change your number and make sure it is ex directory and registered with the telephone preference society (easy to do online)

Why are the police not
doing anything?

Jesus what have I just read? A masked intruder breaks into your house and assaults you ( and I’m not exactly sure what you mean by that) which is bad enough without everything else. I’m incredulous that the police would not be doing anything else. I work for the police OP and I would be complaining loudly. - submit a complaint and get it reviewed. Unless there is a whole backstory that you’re not sharing here this guy needs arresting and they need to be searching his address - he might have evidence sitting there from the assault or any other offence ( eg stickers) . Other than that you are being harassed / stalked and they have access to panic alarms / intruder alarms and a responsibility to you. I’m really sorry they’re being so lame - if you were my friend or relative I’d be raging.

Honestly, just never respond to a sensitive topic again.

OP I feel panicked on your behalf after reading that. I am truly sorry you've had to deal with all of this.
Personally i would move if possible, but i do think others are correct that he may be known to you. Maybe an ex or someone he knows, that he is getting to terrorise you.
Unless you are a local well known business owner or have a work van outside with your mobile number on. The other option is a contractor that you have dealt with via phone.
I do think these things must be connected because surely no one is that unlucky.
Its disgraceful the police know who is calling you and want to write a letter!?
Take the advice of others and go back to the police and tell them you think all 3 eventare connected. They need to search his home now.

Stay safe x

I wonder if instead of getting an actual dog for guarding, which is a huge responsibility... perhaps there is a motion sensor that alerts you with barking sounds, to make it seem like you have a dog.

How much personal stuff do you post on Social Media? Maybe have a privacy overall and restrict who can see your posts. You can go through and block people one by one.
