To be annoyed about being asked to pick up poo?

WFHbore2023 · 25/01/2023 13:15

I'm going to start this by saying - I did do it. I'm annoyed at myself, but I was a bit stunned.
I was walking along with my dog, earphones in. A woman with a pushchair was walking along the same path, walking towards us.
She pointed at some poo on the floor and said something to me, which I didn’t hear as I had my earphones in. I assumed she was asking if it was my dogs poo, so I just said no. I took out an earphone and she said ‘have you got a poo bag? will you pick it up? I hate it when people leave poo’
I was a bit shocked so just picked it up and said ‘yeah, me too’ but afterwards I was like ‘wtf?!’
In hindsight, I should have just given her a bag to pick it up if she’s so bothered by it!
I pick up my dogs poo, and I happily do it, because that is MY job! It’s not my job to pick up other peoples dog poo, it’s bloody gross!
It would be like me pointing to a dirty nappy on the floor and expecting her to pick it up, just because she has a child with her.
Was she BU, or am I for being annoyed that she asked me to?

Always, always pick up my own dog's shit, no problem with that at all, like water off a duck's back now (first time dog owner and the first few weeks I did gag a few times). Other dogs' shit makes me retch though, there was one right next to where mine had gone the other day and I picked it up by mistake and soon regretted it.

Blossomtoes · 25/01/2023 17:29

Be realistic, you’re experienced at touching poo

So is every mother. How could her behaviour be anything except cheeky fuckery? I’d have handed her a bag and left her to it.

GiraffeLaSophie · 25/01/2023 17:29

I agree with you that there’s just something far worse about picking up a strange dog’s poo than there is my dog’s poo, in the same way that I’d much rather change my baby’s dirty nappy than a random baby’s one. I know that the argument about my dog being wormed, etc is fairly invalid because I’m using a plastic bag and not touching it, but I can’t help it 😬

It was very cheeky of her to ask you to do it. If it bothered her then she should have asked you for a bag and picked it up herself.

Userno36373637473 · 25/01/2023 17:34

I would have offered her the bag. I understand her frustration at dog poo on the floor..

but no, I wouldn’t pick up other dogs poo. There is a difference to picking up your own dogs shit than a random lump of shit of the floor.

we have a massive fouling problem in my village and often some people do pick it up from the paths which is a good deed of course but it’s not for me.

I have a small dog and I always take bags but honestly she rarely poos in public and prefers to go in her spot in the garden 😂 but she’s a small dog with small solid poos and easy to pick up.

my friends dog for instance does the most massive shits I’ve ever seen and I just couldn’t do it!

YANBU

We have more than one dog and I pick up their poo. I’m not picking up other dogs poo though - just because I have a dog doesn’t mean I’m picking up all the poo in our area. We have one owner that leaves its (obviously runny) dog poo everywhere, to the point where one local house owner has spray painted over it’s no one treads in it. The owner couldn’t have failed to have missed the fact that their dog had pooed and it’s a regular occurrence. One of my dogs once had a massive runny poo in the middle of the road and I was mortified - thankfully it was our road and so I ran back and cleaned it all up (and used a watering can to clean up as much as possible). But I wouldn’t be doing this for another dog 🤢

Starlight2021 · 25/01/2023 17:36

I’m stumped as to how you could be viewed as YABU tbh.
Presumably if she had a pram then she had a child, said child probably 💩’s and so logically she would have nappy bags. She has the means to pick it up too. And if she didn’t have a bag, simply ask for one.
I have a baby and I can tell you I won’t be picking up another child’s sh!t just because I have one of the same species!

MissMaple82 · 25/01/2023 17:38

YABU poo is poo. I always pick up poo if I see it. You're just as bad if your the type of person to turn a blind eye to it imo

Lotusmonster · 25/01/2023 17:38

I wouldn’t pick up another dogs poo because it will probably be stone cold and a hand warmer from a warm poo on a cold day is the only silver lining for me! 😄

MissMaple82 · 25/01/2023 17:42

TrentCrimm · 25/01/2023 13:44

I think some non dog owners see dog people cheerfully picking up poo and presume that we like it Grin or at least, aren't bothered by it.

We're not, as long as it's OUR dogs! There is something so wrong about picking up another dogs poo!

We were once walking our dog through the centre of Lytham, and there was a gigantic pile of dog shit right in the middle of the path, that people were hop skipping and jumping to avoid. Just as we reached it, a woman nearby stopped us and asked for a poo bag- she just took it, bent down and dealt with it in a no nonsense way and marched it off to the bin. I was in awe!

What an utterly ridiculous statement. So is it sooo very wrong to change someone else's babies nappy?? Would you say fuck that no way am I changing someone else's baby's arse??? Only t#@ts think like that

You’re the opposite to me. The thing I really hate about it is the warmth, I’d rather pick up a cold turd. It’s not even cleared up another dog’s shit in this instance, it’s the sheer entitlement of asking someone else to do it. Fucking princess!

Don't be sodding ridiculous. So every person walking past dog shit who has either a poo bag or nappy sack is unreasonable then? Bloody madness

smittenkittennn · 25/01/2023 18:04

A lot of bonkers takes on this thread. 😳I am very experienced wiping my own arse but doesn't mean I see no difference wiping a random's arse.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 25/01/2023 18:15

Trixiefirecracker · 25/01/2023 16:01

OP, your dog’s shit is not miraculously made of a different kind of gold-coated shit than other dogs! She asked you to do something community minded. There’s no absolutely no difference in picking up one dog’s shit from another. How bizarre that you should think so! 😂

So you don't find it easier to change a dirty nappy on your own child did than that of another random child?

I have never changed a dirty nappy of any child other than my own. I would be utterly grossed out at the thought of it. However, I have no problem dealing with my own dc's dirty nappies. I suspect I will problems tolerate those of gc too.

It's the same with dogs. It's not a question of thinking the poo is special or different but that the dog is yours, the same was as the dc is yours.

I would change someone else’s child if I had to, but I wouldn’t volunteer to do it and if asked I would say no! I like to deal with as little poo as possible, to be honest.

Guess that makes me a twat 🤷🏻‍♀️

Youtoldmeonce · 25/01/2023 18:20

Got to agree that I have no problem picking up my own dogs poop but if I ever pick up another’s by mistake it makes me gag

jamdonut · 25/01/2023 18:28

Yuk! Picking up another dogs poo is horrible! It’s like when my kids were young , I could deal with them being sick, but I can’t cope with another child’s !!!

Well I didn't make any mention of babies or nappies, or anything like that, but okay... also wtf is a t#@t?

If you want to call me a twat just say that- I won't take offence at being called a twat by someone who can't walk past poo without picking it up Confused

Do you give it a good sniff as well? Grin

Cannot wait to start asking random people to do the stuff that bothers me in my area - yet can't lower myself to do myself - and call it being 'community minded'

Agree with you op. Easy to be community minded when if you can just command others to do it.

maryberryslayers · 25/01/2023 23:55

You definitely didn't have to do it but it probably really helped her that you did. I know nothing really gets on your hands but I wouldn't fancy touching my baby before washing my hands after picking up poo so, I'd be very grateful.
Well done anyway, my 4yo DS scooted through dog shit the day, it was all over his shoes, the scooter wheels and board plus the side of his trousers 🤢

It's easy to be community minded if you are just an ordinary person. There are loads of us... loads... I'd rather pick up poop and litter, keep MY neighborhood clean and tidy, than live in an area that it is normal to see shit on the pavement, have the wherewithall to deal with it, and still walk on by.

WandaWonder · 26/01/2023 08:01

I do not have a dog and I hate dog mess everywhere

It was not your dog though, so no you did not need to pick it up.

There is a different between 'excuse me can you help me' and 'it was not you but I am generally blaming you' maybe not those words

WFHbore2023 · 26/01/2023 09:02

That's great. And if she felt the same, she should have asked for a bag so that SHE had the wherewithal to deal with it, not expect me to.

Some mad banshee of a woman came screeching at me about a stone cold bit of dog shit with a foot print in it. Insisted it was my dog's (it wasn't), and like a meek little doormat, I picked it up and apologised profusely.

Spray painting around a dog shit? Pathetic behaviour.

No, you're getting confused. The pathetic behaviour is leaving the shit there to begin with
