To be annoyed about being asked to pick up poo?

I'm going to start this by saying - I did do it. I'm annoyed at myself, but I was a bit stunned.
I was walking along with my dog, earphones in. A woman with a pushchair was walking along the same path, walking towards us.
She pointed at some poo on the floor and said something to me, which I didn’t hear as I had my earphones in. I assumed she was asking if it was my dogs poo, so I just said no. I took out an earphone and she said ‘have you got a poo bag? will you pick it up? I hate it when people leave poo’
I was a bit shocked so just picked it up and said ‘yeah, me too’ but afterwards I was like ‘wtf?!’
In hindsight, I should have just given her a bag to pick it up if she’s so bothered by it!
I pick up my dogs poo, and I happily do it, because that is MY job! It’s not my job to pick up other peoples dog poo, it’s bloody gross!
It would be like me pointing to a dirty nappy on the floor and expecting her to pick it up, just because she has a child with her.
Was she BU, or am I for being annoyed that she asked me to?

I’m pick up my own dogs poo without a thought or gag, it’s usually nice and firm re her diet. I can’t pick up other dogs poo. Not keen on changing any baby that’s not mine either.

GoodnightJude1 · 25/01/2023 13:54

I’ll happily pick up MY dogs poo but I’m not picking up other peoples dog poo that they can’t be bothered to pick up!

I would have offered her a poo bag to pick it up herself if she was that worried about it.

When we were at primary school, my little brother's friend threw up. My bro got a teacher who went off, got the sawdust and a mop and bucket, gave them to my bro and told him to clear it up which he did (they were about 9 or 10). When he told us at home about this I was open mouthed and horrified (I was 11ish). I blurted "but it wasn't your sick; why SHOULD you?", he replied "well, why should anyone else?"

That's what badly lacking these days.

Icantakemyselfdancing · 25/01/2023 13:56

Should have said she was a cheeky fucker who should have just done it herself if she was that bothered.

Dacadactyl · 25/01/2023 13:56

Surely she thought it was your dog's poo?

I wouldnt pick up dog shit at all...its totally rank and I have no idea how anyone does it.

Jux · 25/01/2023 13:57

Chardonnay it's a hypothetical situation, a metaphor if you like. Not real. Indicated by the preftory remark "it's like....."

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/01/2023 13:57

To expand on my example above, there are some children in the park. Some of them have been sick and they and their parents leave without cleaning up.

Should the mother of the child that wasn't sick clean up the mess of the other children? Would you?

Whatever, it doesn't make sense.

Jux · 25/01/2023 13:58

Chardonnay I see you simply don't understand. I'll leave it.

We were walking towards the poo as she was walking away from it. No indication that it was my dog's. I also said no when she was originally indicating towards it.

I can't imagine asking someone to clean something up purely because they also have the thing that causes the mess. Bizarre.

Going forwards hopefully I won't be caught off guard so much and will just offer them a poo bag and be on my way.

And yes, I would

Cherrysoup · 25/01/2023 14:01

The cheeky cow! I'd have said 'It's not mine' and walked off. Picking up cold dog poo from an unknown dog makes me want to puke. If it's mine, it's ok.

She didn't ask you because you have the thing that causes the mess. She asked you because you were very likely to have the equipment needed to clean the mess on you. Which you did. Not bizarre at all imo.

Liquorish · 25/01/2023 14:02

Definitely would have handed her the bag. My dogs poos are really small and I pick up every one and any small ones near it but I don’t have bags big enough for the massive mounds of poo that are everywhere at the minute. I’ve never seen as much poo about as I have in the past month and it’s always these gigantic poos sitting in the middle of the pavement. Another dog walker stopped me the other week to warn me one was up ahead, as if I could miss the size of it.

It is a very odd attitude. By the logic of some on here I should also clean up any cat shit I see on my travels because I have a cat even though mine is an indoor cat.

Not having a dog doesn't mean you can't pick up dog poo just as having one doesn't make picking up a random dogs shit more tolerable.

KarmaStar · 25/01/2023 13:32

She was not right at all!!!
cheeky mare.I'm sure she had nappy sacks on board.

I have a baby in nappies and do not have nappy sacks. Not necessarily a good assumption.

WFHbore2023 · 25/01/2023 14:02

@Whatwhatwhatnow then she would have known she could ask if she could have a bag so that SHE could pick it up.

Yeah, she was a bit cheeky but trying to do something good by proxy. I would have handed her a bag!

No, you used a bad hypothetical situation. Live with it.

IsItThough · 25/01/2023 14:04

TBH I think Dog owners ought to take collective responsibility for picking up dog poo.

OneTC · 25/01/2023 14:08

I frequently take other people's rubbish when I'm out in a walk, wouldn't think twice about picking up a strange dogs shit if I was out walking one and had bags with me, unknown shits are not more revolting than known shits and it's not like you're actually handling them anyway

Pointless attitude. What is the point of moaning about it and doing nothing about it?

They are.

My dog does solid poos, that are very easily picked up.

I also know that she is fully vaccinated, and her worming etc is up to date.

TBH I think Dog owners ought to take collective responsibility for picking up dog poo.

And car owner ought to have collective responsibility for accidents, and all book editors ought to take collective responsibility for all factual mistakes in every single book ever published, and the dry cleaner in the neighbouring town has to assume responsibility for the shirt my own dry cleaner ruined. And so one.
