For those who were growing up when Grange Hill started in 1978.
Did you parents try to stop you watching it?

No, my mother was very anti-censorship, we were allowed to watch whatever we wanted and trusted to decide if a thing wasn’t for us.

My mother openly disapproved so while I still watched it, I couldn’t enjoy it and felt quite scared of older teens who demonstrated the sort of bad behaviour it portrayed.

I was allowed, but it was too old for me really and many storylines went right over my head. Also, it seemed really far removed from my own life, so very fictional.

The theme tune is so iconic though!
