To think this is the fairest way to share center parcs cost?

Am I right that this is the best way to split the cost of £1500 for a 4 bed lodge:

Room 1 - family 1: 2 adults and 1 DC (18 months) pays £375
Room 2 and 3 - family 2: 2 adults and 2 DC (age 4 and 6) pays £750
Room 4 - family 3 (parents/in-laws of adults and grandparents of all DC) pays £375

please let me know if you’d split differently?

Are all the rooms the same size? Do some people get a good room and some a bunk bed room?

Think that's fair personally. Split by the rooms you've taken. We had a similar breakdown when we went but ended up splitting it three ways equally which I thought was a bit unfair but wasn't gonna start a fight over £100

I would divide it by 3.

No not fair

It should be divided by three, I wouldn’t be happy with that breakdown.

So basically the two children are counting as adults here? I can see the reasoning (ie they need a bed of their own whereas the 18mo is still in a cot), but I'd be thinking "ouch!" if I was in family 2.

I would split more evenly between the family groups. Having separate bedrooms is only a small part of the overall "value" of the holiday for the money, and it's IMHO not reasonable to ask a 4-person family to pay twice as much as a 3-person family.

I wouldn’t be happy with that either - divide it by three families and pay an equal share.

So they’re paying £375 for one child.. er no!

Are you sure Center Parcs will allow you to book that? I don’t think they will allow 9.

Either divide by three or divide per person

I would do adults = 1, children over 2 half, children under 2 0. Add it up and divided costs and food by the total. It's worked well for us going away with friends but we were mostly cooking so plenty of food costs too.

If you consider an adult as one person and a child as half, you would come up with 200 quid per adult and 100 per child. That would split the costs 500 / 600/ 400 which IMHO would be more fair if you don't want to go for a 3-way split.

I'd agree with you OP. We go with family and we pay 2/3 if the cost because we need 2 bedrooms (3 people) and they need 1 (2 people)

No, not fair. Divide by 3. That isn't mathematically fair either but it's more proportionate that the family with two small kids pays double!

Xrays · 23/01/2023 18:37

I would split by 3. You’re all sharing the accommodation, you all pay an equal share.

Report
SmartHome · 23/01/2023 18:37

That seems fine to me, split it per person except for the baby who won't use much space / have a bed / use uch of the facilities. that's how I'd expect it.

This is a reverse isn't it?

If people are happy to pay the same price per room yes.

I'd prob offer a little less to the ones who aren't a family of 4:

Room 1: £350
Room 2: £400
Room 3: £400
Room 4: £350

We always split by family unit, ie 3 families so divide by 3.

Sunnydays0101 · 23/01/2023 18:39

I think it should be divided by the number of people in the house and each family pay for their number.

It’s not just the bedroom/lodge you’re paying for - it’s the amenities - playground/pool/forest/walks, etc. The 18 month will no doubt use the pool, toddle around, etc so should be included in the split.

SmileWithADimple · 23/01/2023 18:39

@Renlea that's even harsher for Family 2!

But if they split it equally 3 ways then 2 couples subsidise the family who are using half of the accommodation?

Report
SmartHome · 23/01/2023 18:39

or do it by room. It's still 375 per room and hence 700 for the family using 2 rooms. Same as what would happen at a hotel.

The more kids you have the more you pay sadly!

How much extra is it costing to have four bedrooms instead of three? The family group requiring two rooms could pay the difference. Alternatively, give each adult a value of 2 and each child a value of 1 and divide the cost by the total number then each group pays their share accordingly.

If group two are dictating the arrangement I'd be less likely to agree to subsidise them if I was going.
