To think this is the fairest way to share center parcs cost?

Am I right that this is the best way to split the cost of £1500 for a 4 bed lodge:

Room 1 - family 1: 2 adults and 1 DC (18 months) pays £375
Room 2 and 3 - family 2: 2 adults and 2 DC (age 4 and 6) pays £750
Room 4 - family 3 (parents/in-laws of adults and grandparents of all DC) pays £375

please let me know if you’d split differently?

I think paying per room makes sense, especially if you could otherwise get a smaller lodge, but if I was the one room family, I'd probably offer to pay a bit extra.

So basically the two children are counting as adults here? I can see the reasoning (ie they need a bed of their own whereas the 18mo is still in a cot), but I'd be thinking "ouch!" if I was in family 2.

That's how Centre Parcs price it though. Not that I think it's fair but I can see why people would.

MelchiorsMistress · 23/01/2023 18:40

It doesn’t seem fair that family 1 with a baby is paying the same as the couple with no children.

TeenDivided · 23/01/2023 18:40

You've got 4 rooms due to the bigger family, but you all have access to all the facilities for that money too.

I'd probably split it 30%, 40%, 30% but within family I'd also look at who had most disposable income. I'd put the 40% family in the 2 smallest rooms.

If people are happy to pay the same price per room yes.

I'd prob offer a little less to the ones who aren't a family of 4:

Room 1: £350
Room 2: £400
Room 3: £400
Room 4: £350

I misread, I thought it was 4 rooms in total. I thought it was 2 families of 4. Obviously the OPs split is ridiculous and this is a reverse.

HaPPy8 · 23/01/2023 18:36

Are you sure Center Parcs will allow you to book that? I don’t think they will allow 9.

They do if the child is under 2 as they will be in a cot and not taking a bed. If all over 2 then no they wouldn't accept 9 unless in a bigger lodge (some sites now have 6 bedroom lodges).

TheBigWangTheory · 23/01/2023 18:41

Itsrudemeghan · 23/01/2023 18:35

It should be divided by three, I wouldn’t be happy with that breakdown.

So one family gets half the rooms but only pays a third of the cost? Whys that then?

SmartHome · 23/01/2023 18:42

4 Room and 3 groups isn't it? Parents/ILs, Couple with a baby and Couple with 2 kids who don't want their kids in the room with them. So they have to pay double. Pretty stnadard round my way and I have 4 kids so have always paid more than everyone else. Goes with the territory.

theycallmejane · 23/01/2023 18:43

I did think about this:

Room 1 - £500
Rooms 2 and 3 - £600
Room 3 - £400

(Based on each kid counting as half.)

However, it would feel unfair if one family were only paying £300 per room to have the run of the place.

There's not a lot of difference between what the grandparents are paying under either split, so I guess the couple with the baby and the couple with the two kids are going to have some strong opinions.

iLovee · 23/01/2023 18:43

If the 18 month old is sharing a room with family 1, i think its only fair they pay for 1 room. Whenever we go we split it by rooms (so a family using 2 rooms would pay double the amount of a family using 1 room)

SmartHome · 23/01/2023 18:43

Small family and Parents ony take up one room whatever size lodge so don't see what's unfair.

Worriere · 23/01/2023 18:44

Unless the 4 and 6 year old are off out to work and financially contributing themselves than that isn't fair.

I'd split 3 ways.

We do this and both have 1 child, my parents always pay the most because they have less outgoings and as good an income still.

But 3 ways is fairer. If you use the logic that family 2 have an extra child, then the parents should pay less than family 1.

sammielouise · 23/01/2023 18:44

@TheBigWangTheory but it isn't half though it is, it's one extra bedroom, the rest is shared!

OP; we usually split per adult when kids are younger!

WombatChocolate · 23/01/2023 18:44

When we rent a cottage with another (larger) family, we work it out as a child counts as half an adult. So, family with more kids does pay more, but only a bit.

So, if the cost was £1200 and there were 2 families - 1 with just 1 kid and the other family had 3 kids,
Big family of 5 pays £700
Small family of 3 pays £500

These are all kids requiring a bed. The kids from the different families share rooms and have 2 per room. Basically big family takes up 2.5 rooms and small family 1.5 rooms.

This has always seemed fair and bigger family and smaller family have been happy with it. Bigger family still gets a pretty good deal.

EcoCustard · 23/01/2023 18:44

4 bedroom lodge had the same amenities in the room and the rest is shared. Unless it’s upgraded? I would divide by the number of people and each party pays or divide by 3 each party pays £500.

Tiswa · 23/01/2023 18:44

Are the rooms all the same and all ensutie
what is the price of tie 2 bed lodgr

IhearyouClemFandango · 23/01/2023 18:44

Normally the consensus is per room, so I'm not sure why it is different on this thread tbh.

Kitcaterpillar · 23/01/2023 18:44

We have the same kind of family layout and split stuff like this three ways. The family with the big kids supply the snacks.

SummerHouse · 23/01/2023 18:45

I would go £600 for family 2 and £450 for the other two families.

I’d split it 3 ways, no way would I pay double than everyone else.

SmartHome · 23/01/2023 18:46

It's £375 per room, like a hotel would be. I'm astounded that anyone would expect to have their kids in a second room they havent paid for.

sammielouise · 23/01/2023 18:46

I'd definitely split 3 ways as the room isn't the whole holiday cost is it? It's just one bedroom, the rest is shared.

Highfivemum · 23/01/2023 18:46

4 rooms so spilt the cost per room. Unless there is a large en-suite one which would cost more

TheBigWangTheory · 23/01/2023 18:47

SerenaTee · 23/01/2023 18:45

I’d split it 3 ways, no way would I pay double than everyone else.

But you're getting DOUBLE the number of rooms, so why would you pay for 2 rooms the same as the others are paying for 3 rooms?

some serious CF freeloaders here.

MarchingBand · 23/01/2023 18:47

Seems a little unfair. I found myself in a similar situation recently...

Room 1: DH and I
Room 2 & 3: My sister, her partner and their two DC (not together, one from her previous relationship and one from his)
Room 4: My DM & DF

Since it was a family holiday we split the cost of the DC room between all adults - 1/4 of the room cost paid by Room 1, 1/4 paid by Room 4, and half paid by Room 2.

This worked well for us.
