Am I right that this is the best way to split the cost of £1500 for a 4 bed lodge:

Room 1 - family 1: 2 adults and 1 DC (18 months) pays £375
Room 2 and 3 - family 2: 2 adults and 2 DC (age 4 and 6) pays £750
Room 4 - family 3 (parents/in-laws of adults and grandparents of all DC) pays £375

please let me know if you’d split differently?

paying for 1 room, that is

Ted27 · 23/01/2023 18:47

Too complicated- I'd get my own lodge

Bigweekend · 23/01/2023 18:48

So everyone saying split 3 ways, what would you expect to happen next year when baby needs their one room and they need a bigger (or and extra?) lodge?

It seems reasonable to me to pay for the part of the property you're occupying. The only difference would be if the children are in a bunk bed room or similar, in which case I'd make that a cheaper room, but that family still pays more than the others.

However, if this is causing any contention at the booking stage, don't go on holiday with them!

Athenen0ctua · 23/01/2023 18:48

Split the cost of a three bed lodge three ways, the family of four pays the extra for the bigger lodge. Or a 30/40/30 split with the family of four taking the smaller rooms.

OpportunityKnockss · 23/01/2023 18:48

Family 1 - £450
family 2- £625
grandparents -£425 and they pick the room they want.

TheBigWangTheory · 23/01/2023 18:47

But you're getting DOUBLE the number of rooms, so why would you pay for 2 rooms the same as the others are paying for 3 rooms?

some serious CF freeloaders here.

It isn't just bedrooms is it. It's not hotel rooms, it's a lodge. The rest of the space is communal.

icelollycraving · 23/01/2023 18:50

I’d split three ways but the ones having one room get first choice.

elessar · 23/01/2023 18:50

I'd split by room as you suggest OP. The cost difference between a 3 bed and a 4 bed lodge is quite significant at CP, so it seems reasonable to me that the family with two rooms should pay for the extra room.

Yes, and as well as getting double the bedrooms, you'd use more of the communal areas than anyone else. The baby isn't exactly going to do much, and the grandparents are but two people.

blubberyboo · 23/01/2023 18:51

I can’t figure out how many people you have in room 3

you say it’s a 4 bed lodge but that usually means max of 8 people.
if you had 3 people in room 3 you’d have 9 persons plus an infant and 9 wouldn’t be allowed

IhearyouClemFandango · 23/01/2023 18:44

Normally the consensus is per room, so I'm not sure why it is different on this thread tbh.

Because you're not just paying for the room like you are in a hotel - you're also paying for all the free amenities on offer at Center Parcs.

Worriere · 23/01/2023 18:48

That doesn't make any difference. You're still getting twice as many bedrooms. There are 4 of you, why would you pay the same for 4 as you would for 2? Unless you are a CF freeloader.

Making the larger family pay for the difference in lodge price is not a bad idea.

@needabreak5 Do you have figures for that?

OpportunityKnockss · 23/01/2023 18:52

8 people plus an under 2.

needabreak5 · 23/01/2023 18:53

Thanks all! A mix of opinions ranging from this being fair to ridiculous…there also is a mix of opinions across the 3 families re how to split, should kids be counted in the cost and should the baby have to pay. So looking for the most popular opinion - my thinking is per room as if it were hotel booking.

If split 3 ways too.

TheShiningPup · 23/01/2023 18:54

What's the difference in cost between a 3 bed and a 4 bed lodge? We've just been away and a 3 bed lodge was 900 but a 4 bed was only 150 more. So if I was splitting that I'd do 300 for family 1 and 3 and 450 for family 2

BoredatHome321 · 23/01/2023 18:55

@theycallmejane last time I booked a 3 room lodge with an under 2 it was around £700. I then added a 2 year old and it was around £1500 and we decided not to go this year because of this, annoyingly.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/01/2023 18:56

Cost per room. Need two rooms? Pay two shares.

otherusername · 23/01/2023 18:56

Center Parcs don't charge for under 2s and they don't take up a bed or cause you to need larger accommodation. If you had 2x 2 bedroom lodge (parents & baby plus grandparents in one, parents plus 2 kids in another) you wouldn't expect the baby parents and grandparents to pay more than 50% each of their lodge and parents of older kids pay 100% of their lodge.

Blimey, never been called a CF freeloader before but there’s a first time for everything! To be honest, I never share accommodation at Center Parcs and I go most years so looks like I’ll avoid falling out with my family 😂

Coffeellama · 23/01/2023 18:57

I’d split 3 ways, or atleast a little more fairly. If it was people booking hotel rooms family 2 would book a family room not 2 full priced rooms so I don’t think that logic works. Family 1 have got a seriously good deal here with their child going free, while family 2 pay double for their two children.

OpportunityKnockss · 23/01/2023 18:58

How much is a 2 bedroom lodge for the same week/weekend?

I will check this, thanks - I think it will make it more expensive for family of four as there are lots of 3 bed lodges.

the rooms there isn’t much difference. 2 twins and 2 doubles but similar sizes, I think one of the room may be slightly bigger - family 1 will get that for the cot.

No en-suites just 2 shared bathrooms between the 4 rooms.

You could equally argue that its inviting the ILs along (or the other family) that means they need the bigger lodge
