To think it’s time for the Balonz joke to fade away in to obscurity?

Every single thread about names in any context some poster pops up with “Is it Balonz 🤣🤣🤣”. I may be being irrationally mardy but:

1. It isn’t funny, it was mildly amusing years ago but certainly isn’t funny anymore
2. It’s really really old now. Can’t we do better and come up with some new lines rather than relying on this and Pom Bears and Naice Ham for lolz.

Willing to accept if IABU (hmmm). So settle this for me:

YANBU - Balonz isn’t funny and should die a death
YABU - what you on about! Balonz continues to be hilarious and is an absolute classic! Get a sense of humour and a life woman.

Totally agree ,it was never very funny it should die a death along with the other not very funny people on benefits have goats thing .

It's this. Of all the things on this site to get annoyed about the whimsical and silly Balonz is not it

YABU for not posting a link to 'Balonz' for those who have no idea what it's about, so thanks to Sparklingbrook.

I've been here 18 years, and while I've seen Balonz, I had not seen Snapped and farted or the Sistine Chapel, so thanks to WeBuilt for sharing the laughter this morning.

I can take or leave the holiday one, though.

soupy and TwC only really worked when you posted links that people had to click on rather than the picture appearing on the thread. It a the element of 'gotcha' that made it funny (or mildly amusing).

Other in jokes ? I think as a PP said it's an attempt to create a community feeling on a massive forum with a huge membership - which is getting bigger all the time. The jokes don't need to be funny (and as you say OP they generally aren't funny - my personal hatred is for 'diagram or it didn't happen' in reply to 'I parked my car outside my house' etc) they are like family in jokes - they make no sense, they aren't funny but they make you feel 'I am part of this family because I get this joke' and as such you will be fighting a losing battle against human nature if you try to stop them !

It doesn't enhance group cohesion though. Unless you're someone whose sense of humour consists of repeating the same unfunny joke again and again, in which case you'd find a few kindred spirits I guess.
