Every single thread about names in any context some poster pops up with “Is it Balonz 🤣🤣🤣”. I may be being irrationally mardy but:

1. It isn’t funny, it was mildly amusing years ago but certainly isn’t funny anymore
2. It’s really really old now. Can’t we do better and come up with some new lines rather than relying on this and Pom Bears and Naice Ham for lolz.

Willing to accept if IABU (hmmm). So settle this for me:

YANBU - Balonz isn’t funny and should die a death
YABU - what you on about! Balonz continues to be hilarious and is an absolute classic! Get a sense of humour and a life woman.

A thread I was reading the other day about Coke and then someone “accidentally” mistyped it as cock (how?) then the whole thread just turned into cock jokes with people absolutely howling/dying/pissing themselves. It was really annoying and I was disappointed because I was interested in the original OP

It was funny in the way that live threads unfolding / reading it for the first time is funny. But someone posted it up thread and it’s 8 1/2 years old now! Surely no one can still be laughing at it

I have a thread in classics under another name and I can confirm it is absolutely not funny reading it again even though it’s in classics for being funny

Auto correct is a fickle beast

Mine often changes coke to cock, depends what you’re used to typing (I’ve typed cock more than coke on my phone hence the correction)

Balonz - not funny at all, obviously a troll
Penis beaker - almost certainly made up, someone hoping for classics, not funny at all and extremely cringeworthy that anyone brings it up

That's the thing with old/in-jokes, though. They're like the fact that Grandad always falls asleep and snores on Christmas Day - it's completely expected, but still wryly amusing to observe in a 'family-bonding' way. Or, to put it another way, on MN, we don't have team-building weekends going paintballing or igloo-building; we have Balonz.

More than one person cited the real-life existence of penis beakers again in the recent thread about standing on toilets and the different ways in which people from diverse cultures do their business and clean themselves up afterwards.

I really wish we could reach an official agreement about what the word 'troll' means. To me, it's somebody goading and stirring the pot, intending to upset, infuriate or otherwise spread disharmony.

That's a million miles away from a funny made-up story that gives everybody a really good harmless laugh (or not, as some of the CBMs people on here would claim).
