To doubt that a big Coronation is actually what the public wants

It seems as if the press are now saying that people do want a big Coronation ceremony which surprised me - surely with people not being able to afford food and heating it all seems so OTT especially just after the jubilee. Makes me wonder how they got the information that this is what people actually want. I know there'll be the usual flag wavers but surely most people don't want or need money to be wasted on a big celebration?

Oh, do can the boring tampon shit. How would your private conversations hold up if they were reported to the whole World?

AdventFridgeOfShame · 22/01/2023 21:14

@Bubblebubblebah love the Gretna Green idea , BUT that is a 650 mile diversion Shock We have to keep this green.

Taking the royal head to the crown is the way to go.

Eleganz · 22/01/2023 21:15

Bread and circuses, but without the bread.

I'd rather have a decent pay rise but there we are.

Are the palace spin doctors and their tame seals doing overtime?

SpookyBlackCat · 22/01/2023 21:15

They can hardly do it on the cheap. It's not like they have to buy new crowns and stuff. Most of the budget will be for security.

£1.50 is not a decent pay rise

Vicliz24 · 22/01/2023 21:16

It will be the only one any of us have ever seen . I want gold coaches the Crown Jewels and Brian May popping up on the balcony.

It can't be more green than in place called Green😂
They can take train and have our £3. But!!! I want the train to regularly shoot biodegradable glitter

MargaritaRita · 22/01/2023 21:17

I don't care what they do, because my voice will not be heard if I object (which I do) anyway.

What I don't understand is how Charles and Camilla are not red with embarrassment at having to go through this medieval charade for the peasantry to gawk at. Imagine a grown man and woman wearing all those jewels and ermine cloaks and travelling in a Cinderella coach, and being anointed by a Bishop (the dirty adultering hypocrites 😂) It is all a bit bizarre to me. But they have thick skins and can count their money all day if they want to pass the time.

I refuse to be a sycophant. I am far better than them and that's no lie.

LemonSwan · 22/01/2023 21:19

If it really is £1.50 each then more than happy with that. It’s a once in a lifetime thing for a lot of ppl.

Just fine actually because I’m not a hypocritical self obsessed adulterous man child.

Bubblebubblebah · 22/01/2023 21:19

Bit confused about the use of sycophant😳
What advantage will people fawning get for all the fawning?

MarshaMelrose · 22/01/2023 21:20

I wanted big coronation when they were saying it was going to be done over zoom so I'm not being influenced by anyone. In fact...maybe I'm the influencer!! 😄

BeyondMyWits · 22/01/2023 21:20

I'll lose another day's leave, or have to take it unpaid... Effectively £80 down the spout, for a day off I don't want, for an occasion that as a republican, I don't support.

It'll be more than £100,000,000 when security is fully taken into account , and I write it in figures deliberately so people can "see" it... can see the enormity. 100 million doesn't sound that big....£100,000,000 looks it!

Cheers.

You do sound a bit like you are, actually. Sorry. 🤷‍♀️

pizzaHeart · 22/01/2023 21:23

I have no idea how they’ve got this information. I wasn’t asked for sure and neither was DH. We both don’t want a big coronation but we are republicans.

What's your job? Are you anything useful like a plumber or an electrician? Cos I'll pay you to do some jobs while I'm at my street party if that helps?

Population of UK 68,807,140
100,000,000 / 68,807,140

So £1.45 ish per person

Gosh that sounds big

maximist · 22/01/2023 21:25

I totally want a big coronation - it's not as though the money would be spent on anything that'd increase my standard of living if they just stuck him in St George's Chapel and plonked the crown on his head. Let's have the spectacle!

WinnieTheW0rm · 22/01/2023 21:26

It's going to be a parade, Abbey service, balcony appearance, concert, Big Lunch and Big Help out.

That's barely more than Trooping the Colour and some street parties. Full bling, presumably, but it's nice to see that in use (yes, I know it's all on display in museums, but it seems different to see it used for the purpose for which created)

Unless you're in central London, I think it's fairly easy to ignore.

And I welcome the extra Bank Holiday - UK has a low number compared to many countries and think it's nice to be slightly less adrift from time to time

nocoolnamesleft · 22/01/2023 21:27

It may well be the only coronation I'm alive to see. I'd like some pomp and pageantry thanks.

coralgeo · 22/01/2023 21:27

This thread is SO depressing

Dymaxion · 22/01/2023 21:28

Less than 25% of people are struggling with the COL crisis

less than a quarter of the population are struggling with the COL crisis, that doesn't sound as great to me as it does to you.

Define struggling ?

Do you mean people who are on the bones of their arse, accessing food banks and having to live without heating in Winter ?
Do you mean people who are worrying about how they are going to afford their mortgage when their fixed deal ends ?
Do you mean people who are worrying about how to pay their rent increase due to the rise in interest rates meaning the landlord increasing it ?
Do you mean people who work in businesses who depend on people having any disposable income, worrying because that disposable income is being eaten up by a rise in rent/mortgage payments, energy bills, interest rate rises, council tax increases, food inflation, general inflation and wage stagnation ?
Or do you mean those businesses that are struggling with inflation, interest rate rises and massive rises in energy prices, as most are ?

The COL crisis effects everyone in some way or another, but of course there will be a minority who insulated by their wealth, well done you if you are one of them.

SerafinasGoose · 22/01/2023 21:28

2022 saw enough of this family's ostentatious pageantry to satisfy even the most ardent monarchists' desires. They were displays the country could ill-afford, having already seen our economy decimated through a protracted lockdown period from which some sectors have still to recover, and others won't at all.

Why in the hell anyone would want to throw more good business after bad to celebrate - of all things! - hereditary privilege, has me beat.

These tedious, uninspiring people are absolutely bloody everywhere. I never participated in a solitary second of it, and am still Windsored out.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2023 21:28

I'd love a big coronation! Sid the expense. Pageantry is what we do best!
