I was just wondering if there are a lot of jobs which cannot be done from home.

Anaesthetist would be a stretch.

PinkyU · 22/01/2023 13:32

I think you’d find it quicker to list those that can work from home.

NuffSaidSam · 22/01/2023 13:33

I'm a nanny and I can't work from home.

Can't change a nappy on Zoom!

PinkVitamins · 22/01/2023 13:35

I'm a homebirth midwife and I can do parts of my job from home (updating bloods, organising appts, giving advice, updating notes) but most of it I can't 😁 in theory in a different health system I could have women come to me for the appts and to give birth but that's not our system here!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 22/01/2023 13:36

Train drivers, hgv and van drivers, delivery and taxi drivers. Mechanics, anyone operating machinery in their job - as pp said easier to list those which can be done from home.

NEmama · 22/01/2023 13:37

Engineer (dh couldn't fix stuff from home)
Teaching properly (students could just switch off or not log on. )

Most jobs that aren't desk/computer based couldn't be done from home. So doctors, nurses, carers, teachers, builders, cleaners, drivers, gardeners, vets, zoo keepers, farmers, police, tour guides, chefs, waiters, bar staff, hairdressers...I could go on.

Pilot - although this might be possible in the future when planes can be fully operated remotely.

I am only guessing here. Perhaps an actual pilot can answer this.

’Jimmy ‘killer’ Mcbadman, don’t show him where the toolbox is’.

Ba ha ha.

I was a prison nurse and midwife years ago.

I could not have done that from home, now I come to think about it.

Gravedigger if you live in a flat. Your neighbours below would quickly start to complain.

Plane driver

TheShellBeach · 22/01/2023 13:54

Barmaid/Barman

Waitress/Waiter

Mind you, you could open your own pub or restaurant at your house. Then you'd have your cake and eat it.
Literally.

Ship's Cap'n.

Presumably the Second Officer could WFH if he had a good view of the whole ship on his laptop.

I saw a video about bed bound disabled people in Japan having jobs as waiters/waitresses. They controlled robots remotely from their bed.

Bramble picker

Yum. I love brambles.

But what happened if the robots accidentally spilled food or drinks on the customers? Who did the clearing up? Who apologised to the outraged customers?

I don't think the robots were the only "staff" there.
