To ask if people still wear pyjamas round the house?

I know it was popular, I've never worn pjs to bed but just changed into them when I get home to chill out for the evening or sometimes at weekends if it's raining and not going anywhere.
Do people still do this?

Round my way , people( women actually, do the school run, go to the supermarket and the vets in their pjs .

They look like slobs actually.

85sarah2005 · 21/01/2023 19:49

definitely! plus I wfh two days a week but don't want to be putting the heating on just for me, I have some lovely warm fleecy pj bottoms that I wear just specifically for this ~ they'd be too warm if I was active or the heating was on in the evening.

Skyla01 · 21/01/2023 19:51

Yup

Atethehalloweenchocs · 21/01/2023 19:51

Yep, all my neighbours are familiar with mine, as I am usually in them if I dont have to go out again and have to answer the door!

JackieDaws · 21/01/2023 19:51

No because I wear clothes that are in the right size and actually fit me. Also I don't want to look like a lazy slob.

pinkfondu · 21/01/2023 19:51

Just had a shower and got into some new pjs

SuffolkBargeWoman · 21/01/2023 19:52

Can someone explain how pyjamas are warm enough to wear around the house? Surely they're quite thin cotton? Aren't you cold in them? Or do you heat the house up enough to walk around in one thin layer of cotton?

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 21/01/2023 19:53

Been in mine all and not left the house, pretty much not left the sofa

Big fluffy dressing gown over the top. Or fleece pyjamas.

I only wear pjs to bed but I also have very definite “out” and “at home” wardrobe the same as @Ottil
I wear lounge trousers and loose longish cotton top, plus fleece and warm socks when it’s cold.
I change in jeans and a smart casual top if I’m expecting a visitor.

ditherydotty · 21/01/2023 20:01

I put on leggings and fluffy jumper, or soft lounge type trousers, I hate pyjamas though and detest the term PJ's miserable cow that I am

Orangello · 21/01/2023 20:02

No, PJs are for bed. Leggings and sweaters are just as comfy but don't look like you're ill and/or can't be arsed to get dressed.

rainyskylight · 21/01/2023 20:06

do you all then cook and eat in your pyjamas and then get into bed wearing the same pair? Ew.

Cormakorma · 21/01/2023 20:08

I don't, but then I wear comfy clothes all the time. I'm perfectly happy in a nice jumpy and slouchy jeans and feel nice and comfy. In the morning I make an effort to change out of PJs as soon as possible because I find it hard enough to get in a morning walk or be productive at work as it is, I don't need further incentive. The only time I put PJs on is after an evening bath.

FelixDoublyDelicious · 21/01/2023 20:16

No, the more stretchy the waistband, the more you don't notice the food

LikeAStar1994 · 21/01/2023 20:21

Yes.

However according to Mumsnet standards if you wear your PJ's all day then you're dirty and lazy. Or if you don't wash your bed sheets every single day...

I've a lovely fleecy jumper as part of my pj set!

Catcharolo · 21/01/2023 19:48

No! I put then after a bath at about 9.30pm.
I have loads of super nice clothes so want to wear them tbh! Especially at weekends and in the evenings when my DH is around…If he only ever saw me padding around with floppy boobs in pjs and scraped back hair I think I’d feel a bit gross! What’s so uncomfortable about normal clothes?!

Thankfully dh also like pjs and my floppy boobs and I don't need to dress up for him 24/7 🤣

Reluctantadult · 21/01/2023 20:24

SpentDandelion · 21/01/2023 19:28

No, my pj's are for bed only.
I have soft casual clothing l put on after work, but change into my pyjamas for bed. l can't imagine doing housework and cooking in my pyjamas. l never have a day when l don't go out somewhere, and no tv, maybe that makes a difference.

Thank goodness, I scrolled down a long way to find someone like me!

Goodyetalso · 21/01/2023 20:32

I bloody love putting my PJs on for the evening. But when did this start to become a thing? When I was a kid (80s and 90s) none of us ever changed into pyjamas until bedtime. The thought of us all sitting around in our daytime clothes feels so weird. We must have been so uncomfortable. Yet I remember my first boyfriend (late 90s) used to out pyjamas on as soon as he was in for the night and I used to find it so weird and slobby. When did it become the norm?

Cocobutt · 21/01/2023 21:08

I don’t wear PJs in bed so instead I wear a comfy tracksuit in the mornings and evenings.

That way if someone knocks on the door or I need to go into the garden for any reason then it doesn’t look like I’m in PJs 😁

mellowbanana · 21/01/2023 21:10

Yep. I go all out, have an indoor tracksuit that I change into as soon as I get home and then I change into my evening pjs for mooching around after dinner.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/01/2023 21:12

Yes I was wfh alone on Thursday. Got dressed to drop dd at school then back home in my pjs. Then shower and fresh ones later. Got pjs on now for the evening. Don't wear them in the day if I'm in and out.

Jourdain11 · 21/01/2023 21:13

I guess OP maybe means with rising energy prices?

I don't and never did, but I will wear leggings and a hoodie / big jumper if I'm not going anywhere in particular or just for lounging around.

OnlyTheBravest · 21/01/2023 21:25

Casual clothes at home. PJs for bed only.

Recently, I have seen people wearing hair bonnets and dressing gowns over PJs to local shops. Feels wrong to me, far too casual.
