Man of the hour and just breathe by pearl jam and both from my brother's funeral. I can't listen to them without weeping buckets.

LittleMissPeggySue · 21/01/2023 20:42

A lot of mine remind me of when my dad died in September 2020.

My Way - Frank Sinatra/Matt Munro, was played at the funeral.
Alabama - Tracyanne and Danny
Stop crying your heart out - Oasis.
These are the days of our lives - Queen
Wake me up when September ends - Green Day.

When I was little, I used to bawl every time Memories by Elaine Page came on the radio. Used to drive my mother up the wall!

I'm a crier Blush
This woman's work is gorgeous (I love the maxwell version)
Say you won't let go by James Arthur made me cry when I was pregnant and emotional
In your atmosphere by John Mayer "without your voice to tell me, 'I love you, take a right'"
Walk of life by Dire Straits was played at my dad's funeral. I managed to make a photo montage of him to the song but haven't been able to listen to it since.

@TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife Better man was an emotional blast from the 90s for me on my playlist the other day. I'd not heard it in years. Ds's dad put it on a compilation tape for me when I was 18. 1994 that was. We lost touch, got back in touch, lost touch, got back in touch, lost touch, both got married and divorced, got back in touch, got back together 10 years ago, broke up, discovered I was pregnant, he cut contact. Ds is 8 and I've no regrets but that song 😭 I've been thinking of him a lot latent and it really got me whilst out walking and trying not to cry.

Can't listen to it without crying, my best friend's funeral song. He dies way too young tragically.
Love Thunder

The Morrisey version of Moon River
Winds of Change
Let Me Go - Gary Barlow
Abide With Me

JamieDornansBiatch · 21/01/2023 20:46

Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus. The words really hit home when I was in a bad place.

FallopianTubeTrain · 21/01/2023 20:46

Vincent - Don McLean

Across the stars - John Williams (it was the theme from attack of the clones, dreadful film but I think it's the best thing John Williams has in his mind bogglingly amazing catalogue. It's incredibly moving.

Odd one but the music box version of Despacito - I used to rock my daughter to sleep to it when she was a tiny baby, it brings back memories of her being all fresh smelling and sleepy from a bath, tiny yawns and new baby snuggles.

I'll also second , And So It Goes by Billy Joel that someone mentioned up thread

Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite · 21/01/2023 20:46

Apron Strings by Everything But The Girl. That visceral longing for a child breaks my heart. Tbh Tracy Thorn could sing anything and it would give me goosebumps.

Also In The Ghetto by Elvis - and as her young man dies 🥺 I always picture my two grown up sons who are still my baby boys out in the dangerous world.
Fucks sake I’m so wet!

Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
Another one for Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

Both reduce me to a sobbing mess

This and the song by Luther Vandros about his dad (before my time but makes me cry).

melisma · 21/01/2023 20:47

Like many others This Woman's Work gets me every time. But the one that REALLY reduces me to a sobbing mess is this beauty by O'Hooley and Tidow. I just cannot listen without weeping.

<tissues at the ready>

Cantseethewindows · 21/01/2023 20:48

I don't think any of these have been mentioned yet (which surprises me):

Radiohead - Creep. I need to turn this off as I will start crying irrespective of my mood or the situation. I find it so upsetting and sad, the self loathing is just palpable.

Elvis Costello - I want you. Heartbreak put into words.

The Verve - The drugs don't work. I'd not long split with a boyfriend who was utterly traumatised by losing his mum to cancer when he was 14 when I first heard this. Absolute gut punch, it gets me every time.

I'm stifling sobs here, hoping DS has now finally fallen asleep.

Rockingcloggs · 21/01/2023 20:51

Days of our lives - Queen
Set fire to the 3rd Bar - Snow Patrol & Martha Wainwright

Twattergy · 21/01/2023 20:51

Shipbuilding - Elvos Costelloe
Come to me -bjork
Mirrorball - Elbow
Kindling (fickle flame) - elbow
Spit of you- Sam fender
Then I met you - Proclaimers
Don't get me wrong - pretenders
Washing of the water - peter gabriel

SonnalpeDoctor · 21/01/2023 20:52

God yes, you have to be stone hearted not to cry at tears in heaven. For me, visiting hours by Ed Sheeran and wherever you are by military wives choir also guarantee tears. But so many songs with poignant lyrics set me off. If a song makes you cry even if you don't have any other sad associations with that song (like a funeral or similar) it's a genuine masterpiece in my view. Making you feel a powerful emotion like that is incredible.
