You’ll Never Know - a wartime song that my late DF loved.

there’s a line “you went away and my heart went with you”

its 15 years since he died and I still cry every time, because it’s true.

Samson by Regina Spektor
My Immortal by Evanescence

when I was going through a nasty break up, I would sob to Piece by Piece by Katie Melua and Against All Odds by Mariah

lots of Miss Saigon but especially I still Believe

Samson - yes! Tearing up now thinking about that.

A random one really, but "King Of Rome" by The Unthanks. It's about a racing pigeon - except it's not really about a racing pigeon. This is the bit that has me weeping:

"Come on down, your majesty
I knew you'd make it back to me
Come on down, you lovely one
You made me dream come true"

The words of Black Swan Song by Athlete always get to me. It was written about one of the band member’s grandfather passing away.

“I've been racing the clock
And I've run out of steam
I am ready for my final symphony
Oh my body is weak
But my soul is still strong
I am ready to rest in your arms”

😭😭😭

PrimrosesandPears · 21/01/2023 21:04

Three different Taylor Swift songs for me - bigger than the whole sky, epiphany and most of all Ronan.

TrashyPanda · 21/01/2023 21:04

Oh and Highland Cathedral, played in the open air with the massed pipes and drums at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

the hairs stand up on the back of neck.

WarningToTheCurious · 21/01/2023 21:05

I judge myself for this but 'Dance with my Father' by Luther Vandross has me not able to hold back tears. I'm very lucky to have wonderful parents but they're getting to that age when health is starting to fail and the thought of them not being there any more just breaks me .

No judgement here. I feel the same.

saltofcelery · 21/01/2023 21:08

Ronan - Taylor Swift
All Too Well (10 minute version) - Taylor Swift
Piece by Piece - Kelly Clarkson
The Book of Love - Peter Gabriel
First Cut is the Deepest - Cat Stevens
I Will Always Love You - Dolly Parton

I cry just thinking about any one of these songs!

HelpIcantfindaname · 21/01/2023 21:09

Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith
Angels - Robbie Williams
If Tomorrow Never Comes - Ronan Keating

All the above were my baby grandson's funeral songs

Also, Jealous of the Angels, which was my dad's funeral song last year.

And There's a Place for Us from West Side Story.

MrsRandom123 · 21/01/2023 21:09

Angel - Sarah McLachlan (played at mums funeral)
Slipping through my fingers - Abba (oldest dd just hitting teen years now!)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/01/2023 21:10

Abide With Me - we played at my Dads funeral , we chose a version by a Welsh male singer (I'll need to search up the name again) I think my Dad would've approved .

When my Dads ashes are re-united with my Mum ( Mum is still alive ) in their burial place I;d like "Going Home" by Mark Knopfler (Local Hero)

I cannot listen to "Little Drummer Boy" due to the connection with the Moors Murderers Sad

sandgrown · 21/01/2023 21:10

I don’t want to talk about it by Rod Stewart
Different corner by George Michael haunted me through my divorce
Slipping through my fingers by Abba
Away in a manger sung by young children always reduces me to tears
so many more but it depends on my mood

Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová

A beautiful song and film. Glen Hansard's voice cracking on the chorus is the bit that always gets me.

RobertaFirmino · 21/01/2023 21:11

Decades by Joy Division - it's the last track on Closer and if you think Atmosphere is sad, listen to this...

Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House and Keeping The Dream Alive by Farenheit as they remind me of my late Dad.

You'll Never Walk Alone if sung by Gerry Marsden or on the Kop, Saltwater by Julian Lennon and Story Of The Blues by Wah! because they make me think of Liverpool, where I come from and I desperately want to go back, for good...

There's one song that makes me cry just by thinking about it, never mind listening to it and that's Little Green by Joni Mitchell 😢
