Be Still - hymn by Olwen Cameron. Played at so many funerals.
and stay another day by east 17. I watched a documentary years ago on the background of the song. I cannot hear the lyrics without shedding a tear now.

Bitter Sweet Symphony Verve
Agree with PP about the theme to In the Night Garden
Abba Slipping Through My Fingers definitely!

TheVanguardSix · 21/01/2023 20:28

Carol of St. Benjamin the Bearded One by Sufjan Stevens (and lots by him).
”Only parents cry when they want the world to know they’re still alive.” Kills me.

SilverCatStripes · 21/01/2023 20:28

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. One of the most brilliant , beautiful songs ever written and it breaks my heart every time I listen to it, I will indulge myself with this if I need a good cry.

And Run, I had not long found out I was 3 months pregnant with (surprise) DS and DH had gone on tour, and it was a really bloody scary one, and about 2 days after he had gone I heard the snow patrol version on the radio and it absolutely broke me. Any version of this song will still set me off but I try and avoid it.

glittereyelash · 21/01/2023 20:28

Johnny cash-hurt, cher- you haven't seen the last of me, meatloaf-objects in the the rear view mirror, lady gaga-till it happens to you, the fray-how to save a life, kodaline-if you loved me, Foster and allen-after all these years, Sunderland brothers- lying in the arms of Mary.

overthink4r · 21/01/2023 20:30

Christina Aguilera - Hurt

YourTruthorMine · 21/01/2023 20:33

Army Dreamers, Kate Bush, the only song to make me cry, those lyrics

SugarCookieMonster · 21/01/2023 20:34

River by Joni Mitchell

Phosphorescent · 21/01/2023 20:36

Present tense - Radiohead
Lover you should have come over - Jeff Buckley

amigababy · 21/01/2023 20:36

She's a star by James. I think it's about an autistic woman - I hear myself being described in the lyrics.

New York by Art Garfunkel, just for how pure his voice is ( saw him perform pre covid, he was 79, not strong anymore, but I cried - in the dark - through virtually the whole concert)

daisydoods · 21/01/2023 20:37

Luther Vandross - Dance with my Father
Edwina Hayes - Feels like Home

SpideyCraw · 21/01/2023 20:37

Samson by Regina Spektor
My Immortal by Evanescence

when I was going through a nasty break up, I would sob to Piece by Piece by Katie Melua and Against All Odds by Mariah

lots of Miss Saigon but especially I still Believe

TheVanguardSix · 21/01/2023 20:37

Purplestarballoon · 21/01/2023 20:01

Sufjan Stevens - Blue Bucket of Gold (in fact the whole Carrie & Lowell album is the most desperately heartbreakingly beautiful thing I’ve ever heard)
Carmody - Being Without You
This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren
Joy Division - Atmosphere
Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

2:37 into The Only Thing by Sufjan is just glorious.💔
He’s exceptional.

EnglishMuffins · 21/01/2023 20:38

Amazing Grace - played at the funeral of a dear relative.

there are many songs that make me incredibly emotional though.

Tomeeornottomee · 21/01/2023 20:40

The original and best version of songbird, written and sung by the late, great Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac.

Fake plastic trees - radiohead

Can't actually listen to any music since my mum passed away a couple of months ago. Everything makes cry. Even bloody Firestarter by The Prodigy!

Bookkeys · 21/01/2023 20:41

Briane by Boyce Avenue 😭

Oysterbabe · 21/01/2023 20:41

Nothing, I'm pretty much dead inside. The only one that slightly moves my cold black heart is Love Changes Everything by Michael Ball. It was played at my mum's funeral and reminds me of her a lot.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 21/01/2023 20:42

Sand and Water by Beth Neilson Chapman

She Used to be Mine from Waitress.

The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics

Heaven Knows by The Corrs
