At my daughter's funeral last year we had "The Sound of Silence" sung by Disturbed. It is very bleak, but stunning. When we got her phone back from the police the last song she had listened to before she took her own life was "The Doctor Said" by Chloe Adams. I have only managed to listen to it once...

Thousand years - just makes me cry instantly

Super trouper (abba) played at my sisters funeral after she had taken her own life. It is one of my first memories of her - her playing abba and specifically super trouper. The words
"i'm like a super trouper, lights are gunna find me shining like the sun, smiling having fun, feeling like the number 1" seemed fitting given she'd had a 15yr battle with psychotic depression and paranoia.

Queen - days of our lives - I'm wing up just thinking of it!!

urrrgh46 · 21/01/2023 21:49

Further by Don Broco. I have to skip it if I'm listening somewhere public as I'll just start crying!

WhenYouWalkThroughTheGarden · 21/01/2023 21:54

Had never heard it before but Perry Como - And I Love You So came on while I was in the car the other day and I was in tears at the lyrics and his voice.

Jourdain11 · 21/01/2023 21:55

My dad died after a car accident when I was 13, and he was in a coma for weeks. Basically we stayed at the hospital or near while his body shut down and I read and listened to the radio constantly - I just needed to have distraction so that I could basically forget who I was and not think of what was happening. I would say there are 20 plus songs which immediately take me back to that hospital waiting area and I get such dejà vu. I used to properly tear up if I heard them. Unfortunately some of them are, like, Britney Spears, and it's tricky to explain to someone why you have tears in your eyes over Oops, I did it again or Tatu!!

Slipping Through My Fingers by ABBA. I can’t not look at my little blonde girl and think how quickly time is going by and soon she’ll be grown up

WillTimeCome · 21/01/2023 22:04

Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel. Tears in my eyes writing it now. A very painful childhood song, because of the film, and then matched to a loss that I suffered recently. I can't get it out of my head and just brings me to tears.

The Smartest Giant in Town from a CD of Julia Donaldson songs based on her books which we used to have in the car on repeat.

DS was a very advanced toddler and could sing it word perfectly at 2, which ddad was super impressed by the last time we al went on an outing together, just before he died. I remember having to pull over in the car shortly after, I was bawling so much.

I haven't heard it for years (that toddler is now a 6'6 rugby playing 17 year old) but I suspect it would have the same effect.
