Tears in heaven by Eric Clapton 😭😭

Yes, so much so that I haven’t listened to it in 20 years. I can’t. It’s the story behind it, and it reminds me of my dear little brother who died when he was just 4.

FabFitFifties · 21/01/2023 22:48

Old Shep - Elvis

verdantverdure · 21/01/2023 22:49

Another vote for Pearl Jam’s ‘Black’ here. Especially the despair in that last part “I know some day you’ll have a beautiful life…” part is so raw and full of anguish. He’s a genius. Also, their song ‘Just Breathe’ gets me in the feels but that feels totally different.

Saddest lick ever goes to ‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room’ by John Mayer. Kicks me in the gut every time I hear it.

Came here to say Just Breathe too. I can't cope with it at all. 💔

Lansonmaid · 21/01/2023 22:52

Two songs by a folk singer called Eric Bogle- 'And the bands played Waltzing Matilda' and 'No man's land'. Both are about soldiers in the First World War and very moving.

The Ellan Vannin Tragedy- another folk song by Hugh Jones.

Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy was played at Dads funeral and I can't hear hear it without being emotional.

'Will you' by Hazel O'Connor

'White Queen' off the Queen 2 album - just beautiful

Lansonmaid · 21/01/2023 22:54

Oh and 'She's leaving home' and 'Eleanor Rigby.....both really emotional songs

Purplebunnie · 21/01/2023 22:55

Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd - reminds me of a hang glider I knew who died
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Memory - Elaine Page
Abide with me
You'll never walk alone
Another love - Tom Odell
Valley of the Queens - Arjen Anthony Lucassen

NellyTimes · 21/01/2023 22:58

I can't believe nobody has mentioned White Wine in the Sun by Tim Minchin, I can't even talk about it without sobbing.

Time To Say Goodbye, any version but particularly the Katherine Jenkins version.

I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders. Heard this soon after I'd moved in to my new house with my young children following my separation from ExH and him announcing he wasn't going to see them any more. It hit me that it was just me now and I would do everything I could to make them feel safe, happy and loved.

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 21/01/2023 23:04

She Used To Be Mine - Jesse Mueller

All Out of Love

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 21/01/2023 23:20

Deadmau5 - I Remember

Supergrass - Late in the Day

David Gray - Sail Away

Sarah McLachlan - When She Loved Me

Elvis Costello - I Want You

Bush - Letting the Cables Sleep

Misery Loves Co. - Rise and Fall

Sia - Beautiful Calm Driving

Gary Moore - The Loner

Kate Havnevik - Grace

Kate Bush - This Woman’s Work and Cloudbusting particularly

NIN - too many to mention, but particularly Hurt, We”re in this Together, La Mer … loads

FVR DRMS - Hallelujah

And finally, David Gilmour - Hushabye Moutain - I would like this live version played at my funeral. Would maybe need to edit out the clapping/cheering at the end … or maybe not!

Tim Minchin was being interviewed on the radio once, when I was driving home after visiting my mum (in a care home with Alzheimers). He performed White Wine... as part of the interview. I had to pull over with my hazards on because I could no longer see the road through my tears.

StPaulandTheBrokenBones · 22/01/2023 00:04

Hedonism - Skunk Anansie
Have no fear - Bird Yorke
O Mio Babbino Caro - Maria Callas
Crying on the bathroom floor - Will Young

StPaulandTheBrokenBones · 22/01/2023 00:09

Oh and Babylon by David Gray. My brother (who died in 2012) loved this song and sang it really loudly. We had David Gray at his funeral and everyone sang along.

goingback · 22/01/2023 00:26

Queen- Who wants to live forever
Justin Currie-If i ever loved you

mostly it is film music that makes me cry, even played separately from the film like Schindlers List .or some classical or choral music such as Agnus Dei
