There are social tariffs for broadband and water if your on some benefits.
If you have Plantar Facilitis a Cortisone injection can be given free at the doctors and helps relieve the pain.
Tell us something we might not know that can help us?

There's more iron in a bottle of Guinness than a bag of nails.

So Granny said.

There’s also more iron in dark chocolate than in red meat

Not sure it's quite what you're after but in Brazil if a lost child is found on the beach the child is put on someone's shoulders, everyone around them sits down and claps. All the noise alerts the people looking for the child.

@Shufflebumnessie never heard that one… where in Brazil? Surely what is done in Fortaleza won’t also be done in Camboriú?

no bears in Brazil as far as I’m aware, folks

Feeling a little concerned about the amount of skull-cleaning that goes on in Mumsnet households. ( I am already doubtful when visiting people with patio plans. )

More tea, Lies, dear? Bourbon cream? Mr Kipling French Fancy? Do help yourself.

😁😂😀Now I am wondering if it is actually more dangerous to take tea with a viper than with a polar bear.

Mysterian · 21/01/2023 21:16

Polar bears can be incapacitated by removing their brain.

school is not compulsory.
they legally dont have to go to school if you dont want them to.

the world of home education exists(no its not home schooling that's a completely opposite style) and no you dont get professionals checking up on your every move and you dont have to do school at home or follow lessons and books

millions follow the unschooling route with out any input from anyone as with home ed your child's education is down to you

they are not sat at home isolated, not mixing with other kids or learning nothing. theres so much to learn in the world and so much info on goggle and hundreds of meet up groups
.so many peoples view on home ed is this, we are never in

im saying this as home educating family since 2015 and a runner of a home ed group/meet up

ive come across hundreds in person and online that have sent their kids in at 3(also on that note if you do, do school the compulsory school age is the term after they turn 5) because they think they have to and kids have struggled so much to the point of trauma and breakdowns and the parent thought they had to put up with it because they have no choice.

the amount of people that have either said to me or ive read "if i knew home ed existed my kid would never have gone in to the system"

the way the{broken} system is set up mainstream school doesn't work for 99% of kids with disabilities

another one is health visitors are optional, you dont have to put up with one if you dont want one

"School is not compulsory". Nor, it appears, are apostrophes and punctuation.

If you're stranded in the Arctic and have to kill a polar bear for food, DON'T eat it's liver - at times it can contain so much Vitamin A that it could kill you.

Lol, I love this.

Government Tax-Free Childcare Scheme ( if both parents work government tops up what you pay in by 20% up to £500 every 3 months) so many families who are entitled are not using it. Applies for children up to 11 and can be used on top of 30 hours free childcare.

If Virgin Media put up your broadband package- ring and say you want to cancel eventually they’ll match what you were paying before

Asda offer a £6 a month online grocery delivery subscription (Great for weekly shops ends up saving lots as some popular weekend slots are worth £5+)

if you’re with Virgin Media you can sign up to O2 priority (o2 and Virgin joined forces) you are entitled to some offers i.e. weekly free hot drinks/ sausage rolls from Greggs (I get a free hot drink on a Wednesday which includes large vanilla latte and then Friday I get a free bacon breakfast roll)

Haveagentlechristmas · 21/01/2023 21:29

If you have an eye test and need reading glasses get them to print out your prescription then go to pound land and find the glasses you need for a pound or two. Wish I'd done this before spendong £££

BinturongDefarge · 21/01/2023 21:39

WaterHelp is for low income households (under £17k a year/£21k in London). WaterSure is for people on means tested benefits who also have a medical condition that means they need to use more water (or, I think, more than 3 children). And for both you need a water meter.

dottypotter · 21/01/2023 21:41

If you want to research your family tree but don't want to sign up to Ancestry or similar the use the computer library and search for free.

Really @Giggorata baby oil for stainless steel sinks? Do we just rub it on, then wash it off with hot soapy water (madness, who can afford hot water)?

Giggorata · 21/01/2023 22:18

Yeah, just a tiny bit, wipe on, clean cloth wipe off. Got it from Mrs Hinch.

LaChatte · 21/01/2023 22:24

ReluctantCourier · 20/01/2023 19:41

If you’ve a spring form tin then don’t bother trimming greaseproof paper, put the sheet in, snap it shut and just tear the excess off

🤯🤯🤯

Top tip from my DH
If you put dirty plates, cups etc on the worktop above the dishwasher they magically end up inside the appliance cleaned.

my partner must have learnt that tip from yours. He believes in the dishwasher fairy

If you dc gets marker or felt tip on their school jumper etc, spray with hairspray, leave as long as you can, then throw in the wash as normal to remove.

Throw the DC in the wash? 😜

I use mineral oil as it’s food safe. Not sure if baby oil is or not.

Missgeorgemichaelsomuch · 21/01/2023 23:13

Gently rub (white only) toothpaste on magnolia emulsioned walls with a clean toothbrush if your DC ( don't ask) manage to get dark red stains on it ! NB when I tried this it did an ok job but you can still see a faint mark if you look close so you may have to resort to repainting that bit.

Cormakorma · 21/01/2023 23:19

This is genius. I did once use a different slightly jokey name for one company (a big one) and started getting junk in that name, so I could trace it back to them, but never thought of doing this.

sclarke624 · 21/01/2023 23:23

If you downsize from say a Golden Retriever to a Cockapoo, bear in mind cockapoos need grooming every, at the most, 8 weeks. At £50 a pop as no matter how well you comb him there will be one knot found and it will cost £50 instead of £40 and he will be cut short. Seriously though I somehow never thought of the grooming (as in haircuts) or how often, having had Goldie's for years. Silly me. Gonna do it myself, from now on, first attempt went well.

AnnieSnap · 21/01/2023 23:36

@sclarke624 I tried the DIY approach with my Poodles. Despite having the correct equipment and researching technique, they looked like they had been cut with a knife and fork, so I have to cough up the many ££££ every six weeks and the slightly fewer £££ in between for a ‘bath and tidy’ 😲 They do look suitably gorgeous though!

You’ll be pleased to know I don’t clean my skulls, as I prefer their patina from years of handling.

And they’re human.

notjaneausten · 21/01/2023 23:52

I had assumed that as I had a single persons occupancy council tax discount, it would automatically apply to my water charge. It didn't. I told them, and got a discount.

If you wear hearing aids you are entitled to a disabled railcard.
