Do you do it? Is it acceptable, is it illegal? I actually have no idea.
Would you take bath soaps/bubbles etc, loo rolls, towels, a robe?
Just curious really
I’ve always taken the little bottles/soaps with me when I’ve left somewhere I’ve stayed and thought nothing of it.
Do people take more though and is that illegal actually?

Who is seriously manky enough to steal robes and towels ... imagine all of the arse cracks they've seen. Probably spunk too 🤢

Oddbutnotodd · 20/01/2023 04:20

They are washed between guests!

Would be interesting to see how many people take food items without paying in a supermarket.

laughingtick · 20/01/2023 04:21

ThighMistress · 19/01/2023 21:39

I remember that thread. Amazingly there were posters supporting her! It’s surely obvious that if the bottles are big they are not for taking home.

when I’ve stayed at hotels recently there have been little notices advising that you can buy the products at reception.

My cousin is a hotel manager: some people managed to steal the mattress!

😂😂😂 stealing the mattress

Monjardin12 · 20/01/2023 04:26

I take the small bottles of shampoo, as they're replaced anyway, but nothing else.

RicherThanYews · 20/01/2023 04:39

As a side note, I have yet to stay in a hotel that gives Speculoos biscuits which is a shame as I'd eat those. The others are left untouched 🤨

Aprilx · 20/01/2023 04:49

My husband sometimes takes the miniature bottles of shower gel and shampoo. I use then in the hotel but I don’t take any home, I don’t want extra bits and clutter in my toiletry back. I might take a hot chocolate sachet if there is one.

ivykaty44 · 20/01/2023 04:55

No, the next person will need the bed. The idea of a hotel room is you hire the stuff for the night

I don’t want a towel or bathrobe that many others have used

AlmostAJillSandwich · 20/01/2023 05:27

I mean, its been 19 years since i've stayed anywhere not my own home/my partners place, the only hotel i've stayed in the uk was blackpool, no toileties at all, just the tea/coffee which i dont drink so got left alone. It would never have occured to me to take the miniatures home though if they had provided them!

Maverickess · 20/01/2023 05:32

Had to ring guests and ask if they've accidentally taken something home, sometimes it's totally genuine - like the woman who shoved the TV remote into her bag instead of her phone in a rush for a train 😂 obviously we couldn't ring her and she couldn't ring us until she got home.

Some people are very affronted, when we ring and ask if they've packed something pillows , kettle, so many hairdryers and once a shower curtain , by mistake and say that yes they have but it was an accident! They weren't stealing! How dare the hotel accuse them of stealing! 🤔 🙄

And then there's those people who get home and realise they've still got the room keycard and ring full of apologies and post it back that day. We lose so many of those, and they're the most likely to be accidental and we may ask a guest checking out at the desk for the key, but if they've already paid etc and express check out then we don't chase for them.

Then there's those that are the reason the pictures are screwed into the walls all around the hotel and plant pots are glued down - and I'd bet they're the same people who would complain at no pictures on the walls or plants about the place too.

There's some people who like to think they're scoring some sort of win against 'them' when they take stuff, and justify it by saying it's expected or that 'they' make a lot of money, but it affects everyone in the business, if they are losing a lot then prices go up and/or staff or other things (quality) are cut back, and hotels might make a lot of money, but then it costs a lot to run one too, so they have to or it doesn't work.

But some people are just like that, you'll never change that type of attitude or behaviour, they're usually the ones who are complete arses towards the staff and who complain about everything in the hope of something else for free.

filka · 20/01/2023 05:38

I once stayed in a hotel in Thailand which had a price list on the back of the door for every single movable item in the room. And of course they had your credit card details...

Shoxfordian · 20/01/2023 05:39

I would take the miniature shampoo/shower gel because they’re good for weekends away- quite clearly if it’s a full size one then you’re not supposed to take it- I don’t know what that woman on the other thread was thinking.

JennyJenny8675309 · 20/01/2023 05:41

Is this a serious question? It’s obvious what things have been left for guests to help themselves to. Anything beyond that is stealing. I haven’t even read the thread because the question is silly.

exLtEveDallas · 20/01/2023 06:08

A few years ago at a hotel in Egypt I mentioned to the housekeeper how I loved the fragrance of the toiletries (some kind of flower, poss Hibiscus). Later that week be bought me a carrier bag full of them; shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion, with the compliments of the management. I thought that was a lovely gesture.

Mercurial123 · 20/01/2023 06:14

Go to Thailand, and they have a price list of everything in the room from bathrobes, lamps, wall decorations etc in case you want to take it home as a "souvenir".

Lulu1919 · 20/01/2023 06:33

I usually take any mini bottles of shampoo ..never the body lotion lol
Have taken posh coffee bags or capsules and biscuits
Never anything like towels or robes etc

ExasperatedbyJanuary · 20/01/2023 06:33

I can’t believe people are being all precious about how you can should only take the mini toiletries ‘if you’ve opened them’! I mean, I don’t want them cluttering up my house, but if I did I’d take the lot! They’re for you to use, not just if you’re ‘staying unexpectedly’ as a pp suggested; there isn’t some kind of ‘only if you’ve forgotten your own’ caveat 😂

I seriously think some people are lying about how fastidious they are about this stuff. Obviously you don’t take towels etc, but all the mini consumables are fair game; you don’t have to justify the amount you consume by rationalising that your husband will use the sugar even though (gasp!) you don’t and you’re thinking of pocketing it! This place is ridiculous sometimes!

Despairingof · 20/01/2023 06:50

Regarding toilet roll generally not but when concerned about availability when touring I’ve put it in my day rucksack in India.

Januarysickandtired · 20/01/2023 07:00

I sometimes take the mini shampoo bottles, but I am fussy so will only do so if it is a brand I really like - so many these days are filled with cheap and nasty stuff. I have also taken tea bags to use at the next hotel if I particularly like them. I generally wouldn't take anything else as I don't want clutter at home.

Dummycrusher · 20/01/2023 00:31

Who the fuck can be bothered having itty bitty bottles of crap toiletries and random teabags and cheap cardboard slippers floating round? I spend most of my life battling the relentless tide of shite that floods my house (mainly courtesy of children), why would I willingly add more?!

This! I have enough of my own rubbish to get rid of without cluttering up my house with more.

I occasionally used to take the shower caps as they were useful for keeping my hair dry when I was washing the dog, but now we no longer have a dog the only thing I ever take is a complimentary bottle of water if I’ve forgotten to get some for the journey home.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2023 07:10

I’m not being ‘precious’ only taking the opened toiletries, I know they’ll get binned otherwise. I have absolutely no need for loads of teeny tiny bottles of anything once I’m home. 🤷‍♀️

ExasperatedbyJanuary · 20/01/2023 07:23

But some people are. Did you see the poster doing some sort of morality calculation about why it’s ok for her to take the sugar even though she doesn’t take sugar 😂

ExasperatedbyJanuary · 20/01/2023 07:24

That was to @Sparklingbrook

Thats just weird.

RememberFlimsy · 20/01/2023 07:38

I don't take anything from a hotel room - not even the complimentary bottles of shampoo, the soap etc. because they're not environmentally friendly. I prefer to leave them unused for the next guest. I don't eat the biscuits because they're usually not very nice. I'll make myself a cup of tea during my stay but I wouldn't take all the tea bags home. I guess I'm a hotel's favourite type of guest!

Suzi888 · 20/01/2023 07:39

The little toiletries - nothing else because it’s theft…
