Medical Abortion

So I'm 2 weeks pregnant and have a telephone consultation booked in a week.

After that I may have to go to clinic to start treatment.

I hope it gets sorted before 10 weeks but I suppose I have time. Just wondering how awful is it and should I arrange childcare or can I just deal with it alongside other things if it is 10 weeks into pregnancy?

2 weeks pregnant!

Chubbernut · 19/01/2023 14:03

You’re two weeks pregnant? 🤔 Confirmed by who? What do you mean by “start treatment”? Different people react differently to the abortion pill, I’d arrange childcare just in case.

I had a medical abortion a couple of months ago, I completed mine at home, I only had to attend the clinic to collect the medication. All of my assessments were on the phone.
About 30 minutes after administration of the tablets to pass the pregnancy I began to experience strong pains, I took codeine and it took the edge off but didn't do much else for the pain.
I passed the pregnancy within about 7 hours, and the pains basically stopped afterward.

I did it at night so DC didn't see me and I didn't have to worry about him. I had my DH with me, do you have a partner to be with you whilst you do it?

My hot water bottle was a godsend during mine!

Any form of termination is draining. I would get child care just so you can focus on yourself that day. I would also check to see if you are 2 weeks pregnant as not many women would be sure at that stage.
Look after yourself and do what's best for you not anybody else! I would call the clinic as soon as you can x Flowers

poopoopooinyourshoe · 19/01/2023 14:14

I know! I felt strange and took a test and also a clear blue which told me 2-3 weeks. I had sex on 1st January, I know it seems soon for a positive test but that is what happened and I am not pleased about it either because I am on the pill!

Believe me I was shocked as well when I did two strips and the lines were dark. I really don't understand myself but my friend Ubered me over a clearblue to check and I am indeed 2-3 by that test.

I only took the test because I had had sex and felt the same as when I had my daughter.

No idea why it showed up so quickly, absolutely no idea!

2-3 weeks on a clear blue digital means you're 6-7 weeks pregnant...

Oh wow. Thank you. No DH hence the termination really. It was a one time thing and I'm already a single mother.

7 hours eek.... do the clinic give painkillers or should I get something from GP?

Guess I will arrange my child to go elsewhere and settle in. Awful. Hope you're okay too.

How strange! Well the clinic will always do an ultrasound anyway. If you need any support after or during i am all ears Smile x

There are a lot of variables in this, I had a medical termination a few years ago (so pre covid) the actual experience is different for everyone. I personally arranged childcare for the day as I didn't know what to expect and ended up being glad that I did. I had a lot of pain and other unpleasant symptoms and wouldn't have been able to look after a child.

poopoopooinyourshoe · 19/01/2023 14:20

Guys, seriously.

Your weeks indicator test result may take a little longer to display, but when it does it will display one of three options: 1 – 2: this means you are pregnant and conceived approximately 1 – 2 weeks ago. 2 – 3: this means you are pregnant and conceived approximately 2 – 3 weeks ago.

Because they count it from the first day of your last period. Sperm may have met egg 2-3 weeks ago but that's not how pregnancy is dated

Going by when I had sex I am either 9 weeks or 2 weeks and there is absolutely no in between.

You have really put the willies up me (no pun intended) please clarify why you said this.

Medical professionals don’t calculate pregnancy dates based on when conception happened, it’s based on the date of your last period. My test showed 2-3 weeks, I had an early scan and was dated at 6 weeks. My last period had been 6 weeks before. Hope that helps and you’re ok.

Okay I feel very dumb but thank you.

Sperm went in before 17th Nov and on 1st Jan - no other times at all.

What does that mean?

It doesn't really help unfortunately.

I had a period after I had sex prior to 17th Nov, in fact pretty sure I had two normal periods.

I started the pill week before 1st Jan and had sex on 1st Jan again.

Could I really be pregnant by my previous partner?

I can't remember the last date of my period, I did not keep track but I think it was shortly before 1st Jan.

Legrandetraitor · 19/01/2023 14:25

If it was from November the test would say 3+. It’s from jan 1st

royalrecording · 19/01/2023 14:27

very Likely yes you conceived around 1st Jan. The guys were just saying to be aware that medically you are considered to be around 4-5 weeks pregnant right now, that is how doctors will record and count your pregnancy. It doesn’t make a lot of sense but in conversations with the clinic and with doctors that is how they will assess you.

This is what I'm thinking! But it is very early to tell and the two strips were so dark!!

Definitely had sex with partner prior to 17th Nov. Definitely.

No sex.

Then sex on 1st Jan.

It's just that I knew the conception date each time because was having infrequent sex.

It doesn't really matter how they are dated it really matters who got me pregnant and I am hoping it's the 1st Jan.

Call me anything you like I don't care but is it the nov one or the Jan one?

If you had a period since November I would assume it’s the January time where you conceived. And as a pp said, the test would show 3+ weeks probably if it was from November (although they can be inaccurate). The clinic should scan and date you anyway.

Yes that's what I'm thinking, also no bump at all.

It only changes the type of abortion I have. Thank you for input, I was thinking this.

I don't know when my periods are as I don't keep track.

I had periods in Dec and Jan as normal yes.
