Medical Abortion

So I'm 2 weeks pregnant and have a telephone consultation booked in a week.

After that I may have to go to clinic to start treatment.

I hope it gets sorted before 10 weeks but I suppose I have time. Just wondering how awful is it and should I arrange childcare or can I just deal with it alongside other things if it is 10 weeks into pregnancy?

very Likely yes you conceived around 1st Jan. The guys were just saying to be aware that medically you are considered to be around 4-5 weeks pregnant right now, that is how doctors will record and count your pregnancy. It doesn’t make a lot of sense but in conversations with the clinic and with doctors that is how they will assess you.

Thank you! When I had my daughter they asked about periods I was like look I have had sex one time this year on 27th July, nope, they would not have it.

I don't think it makes sense so maybe I'm only half as dumb as I think but also I am quite upset right now and not thinking straight.

Thank you.

2-3 weeks on a clear blue digital means you're 6-7 weeks pregnant...

4-5 weeks pregnant, not 6-7.

It adds two weeks on to conception date, not four.

Thank goodness because I did not have sex 4-5 weeks ago. I had sex 9 weeks ago and 18 days ago and that is it.

So it is from 1st Jan right? No way it can be from previously?

We can't say "no way", only "probably not". You need to see a professional for a scan.

If you had only just gone on the pill, it's not effective for first 7 days. And remember the importance of condoms for non-monogamous sex.

TokenGinger · 19/01/2023 14:41

@poopoopooinyourshoe Yep, that's right. It sounds like it's from 1st Jan, in which case the 2-3 weeks is correct. The Clear Blue dates your pregnancy from conception, so 2-3 weeks is correct. But a pregnancy is actually dated two weeks before conception (as in, you're already considered two weeks' pregnant at the point of conception as the releasing of the egg etc. during that time is part of the 40 weeks' of pregnancy).

So from 1st Jan, you are 2-3 weeks since conception, but 4-5 weeks pregnant in terms of how pregnancies are dated by the medical professionals.

piliomachaon · 19/01/2023 14:46

Clear blue tests can be inaccurate. It absolutely could be from Nov. It could also be from January. You can also bleed any time during pregnancy. It's uncommon to have a 'bump' at 9 weeks pregnant. As a PP pointed out, the pill protects you after 7 days, not right away and only by 99%. There's always that 1%.

If you're concerned about your dates, and the length of your pregnancy, speak with the clinic and arrange a scan. It could be helpful in deciding what treatment they go forward with.

Chubbernut · 19/01/2023 14:48

You need a dating scan. I had irregular periods when DD was conceived and so I got one - it was a same day appointment. Don’t rely on the Clear Blue being reliable, HCG (the hormone tests pick up) goes down after about six weeks past conception so the dates on Clear a lie aren’t reliable.

If you conceived on January 1st then you’re 2-3 weeks post conception and so you’re 4-5 weeks pregnant. If you conceived in November then you’re obviously much further on. You’ll need a scan before they determine how to proceed with a termination anyway.

40goingon30 · 19/01/2023 14:49

I would say it's likely it's the January sex

• You have had a period since November sex
• Test says 2-3 weeks, would say 3+ if November

2 line tests can appear anywhere from around 10 days from conception and it's now 19 days since you had the unprotected sex.
You had not been taking the pill for long enough for it to be effective either.

Chubbernut · 19/01/2023 14:50

Some women have period-like bleeding the whole way through their pregnancy, or in the first months, or in the last months. Bleeding isn’t necessarily an indicator that you aren’t pregnant.

Have you actually missed a period since January 1st?

I know you can't say but please tell me it's not possible to get this result and also be pregnant by my previous person who I had sex with before 14th Nov? it was definitely no later than 14th that I last had sex with them.

Sorry posted too soon... in answer to your original question, I haven't had an abortion but I did have a miscarriage at 10 weeks. This caused strong cramps and a lot of bleeding / clots so probably best to get childcare.

Also as others have said. You will need to have a dating scan to be sure anyway.

piliomachaon · 19/01/2023 14:54

@poopoopooinyourshoe (interesting username) the only people that can answer your questions about how far along you are, or which partner it could be, are the clinic or EPAU after scanning you. You cannot get a definitive answer in Mumsnet.

I don't know, I always know when my period is coming because of the pains and don't know the dates ever.

I know. But I only have a telephone consultation booked with the advisory line next week, then no idea how to get a scan. I'm thinking I go for a private one on Monday now

Oh wow. Thank you. No DH hence the termination really. It was a one time thing and I'm already a single mother.

7 hours eek.... do the clinic give painkillers or should I get something from GP?

Guess I will arrange my child to go elsewhere and settle in. Awful. Hope you're okay too.

I discussed pain relief during my telephone consult with the nurse and they provided me with 30mg codeine tablets. And I took regular paracetamol and ibuprofen as well.

Good luck, I hope you're okay.

If you're able to then yeah have someone care for your DC, that way you have a bit of time to get thru the worst of it and hopefully rest. 💐

Does your clinic have a telephone number you can call for support and advice?
Or call 111 as pp advised.

Destinae23 · 21/01/2023 16:15

Going to call 111 as I’m still feeling very bad rn x

Destinae23 · 21/01/2023 16:34

Can someone help me I took the first tablet yesterday at 7:30 haven’t took the second ones yet and I’m already bleeding is this normal??

angelikacpickles · 21/01/2023 16:38

When was your last period OP? Your pregnancy is dated from then, not from when you conceived. So it can be 2 weeks since you conceived but if your last period was 5 weeks ago, then you are considered to be 5 weeks pregnant.

Ring 111 or the clinic. They can help you. MN can't!
