Furries in IKEA

Am I the only one who thinks this isn’t appropriate? Surely it’s no more appropriate to be naked in public than to walk around dresses up for a sex game? Do IKEA have a responsibility to safeguard their young guests?

I was particularly taken aback by this paragraph ;
‘Although many think it is a sexual fetish more often than not dressing up like animals is a fun escape for a community of people who enjoy expressing themselves in this way.’
is this true? I’ve never heard of this being done in a non sexual manner

Totally inappropriate. Some people have no bloody boundaries and such a sense of entitlement, it's staggering. No, I do not want to encounter people in fetish wear while out shopping. Not sexual, my arse.

Ihatepcos · 16/01/2023 07:23

They get a kick out of it, we shouldn't let them.

liveforsummer · 16/01/2023 07:23

They continue to walk through the store casually and most shoppers don't even seem to notice the odd scene.

I mean, it's Edinburgh- we see all kinds of weird shit here all the time so I'm not surprised many didn't notice or pay much attention but yeh - not ok

TinaYouFatLard · 16/01/2023 07:24

We have reached a point where we are all expected to accept people (men) parading their sexual fetishes in plain sight, in front of children and we act as their unwilling participants. It is beyond disgusting.

Busybody2022 · 16/01/2023 07:25

Absolutely not appropriate!

Catonlapfireon · 16/01/2023 07:29

Complete lack of public decency- getting their kicks from non consenting others.

Okbyethen · 16/01/2023 07:31

If you want to dress up like a dog, fine. But do it in the privacy of your own home, IKEA in the middle of the day isn't the time or place!
A member of staff should have told them they only accept guide dogs 😄

I hate the whole 'we have to accept everyone' bullshit. This is disgusting and they should have been made to leave.

Mummieslncorporated · 16/01/2023 07:31

It's not like they were in full fetish gear, they were wearing hoodies and jeans, with a dog mask and tail. I'm not exactly sure why children need protected from it. They will have seen plenty of people dressed up, I'm sure, in animal costumes. They aren't going to look at that and immediately lose their innocence.

While I agree with the sentiment in general, I'm not sure that this specific incident is anything to get too worked up about.

MangoBiscuit · 16/01/2023 07:31

I just see 2 guys in costume. What's sexual about it?

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 16/01/2023 07:32

DH is a manager at ikea. You would not believe how many people over the years he has had to ask to leave because of these kind of antics.

The last was 6 months ago d was a woman walking a man on a lead like a dog. Luckily both fully dressed.

Lockheart · 16/01/2023 07:40

Those aren't furries, it's some sort of pet play. It's a different thing. Still not appropriate for IKEA.

Pretty sure that most children are used to seeing adults dressed up as animals:

How would children know anything about such sexual antics - assuming that is what this is about, and it's not the local storytime / panto cast / etc. I can't get worked up about this - they were hardly having it off in the aisles.

Lockheart · 16/01/2023 07:43

Yes it is true. Not all of the furry "community"(?) does it for sexual reasons. Many do and they are obviously the most notorious part, but there are many in it for the roleplay/escape/art etc

Apparently it's a thing now, now just a sex thing. According to my teens there were some at school dressed up on own clothes day (year 8s or so).

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/01/2023 07:45

Do they have flat-pack kennels at Ikea? Maybe that's why he went there?

(and I do hope he 'picks up' after them.) 🐕

guinnessguzzler · 16/01/2023 07:59

'Most shoppers don't seem to notice' = the people of Edinburgh know exactly how best to deal with attention seeking behaviour.

My thought was that if they were dressed up for sexual reasons, as PP have said they were doing it for attention and getting a kick out of it- therefore indirectly involving non consenting children in their sex practices.
Though it would appear that some adults do dress up as animals for non sexual purposes so thank you for those who have clarified

It’s IKEA FFS not Torture Garden, it’s not appropriate.

Hingey · 16/01/2023 08:38

@Quveas what version of Disneyland do you go to where the characters use Gimp Masks 😂??

Mummieslncorporated · 16/01/2023 08:39

I didn't say it was. Having said that, I've no idea what torture garden is. Do people go there dressed in jeans and hoodies?

ShimmeringShirts · 16/01/2023 08:40

Sexual fetish or not, this shouldn’t be allowed in public. Not just for kids, I personally don’t want to see shit like that, it’s involving me in their “look at us!” play, why the need to have the public aware of your instabilities? It’s not fun for the rest of us.

fairgame84 · 16/01/2023 08:42

It's not always a sex thing. DS describes himself as a furry. He's asexual apparently. He just really likes the cartoon animal thing afaik.
I don't understand it but he's autistic and very much against anything sexual. There is some type of furry that is a kink but not everyone who is doing it for a kick.

You'd never be allowed in if you were wearing jeans and hoodies!

If they were only wearing jeans and hoodies, there wouldn’t be an issue would there? Wearing these masks etc wouldn’t be unusual at TG though.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/01/2023 08:51

It is absolutely a fetish. I was really surprised to see it presented in the way it was. "Pup play" is not the same thing as furries. I'm very much hoping that in the case the tails weren't attached with butt plugs...
