Am I the only one who thinks this isn’t appropriate? Surely it’s no more appropriate to be naked in public than to walk around dresses up for a sex game? Do IKEA have a responsibility to safeguard their young guests?

I was particularly taken aback by this paragraph ;
‘Although many think it is a sexual fetish more often than not dressing up like animals is a fun escape for a community of people who enjoy expressing themselves in this way.’
is this true? I’ve never heard of this being done in a non sexual manner

@sillybillyboo1 protecting women and children is clearly really important. I'm not sure that we have yet nailed down the way to do it, when it comes to unexpected visitors in IKEA but here's hoping.

If anyone did want to get more of an insight into human sexual response and desire, there's some great easy to access recent work by psychosexologist Dr Karen Gurney.

Lmao

Indeed. I'm still struggling with why anyone needs to be protected from a couple of bods in a fetish mask where there is no nudity, harassment etc.

One recurrent theme from those that object seems to be along the lines of they feel violated by feeling used in someone's sexual activity without consenting to be part of it. They feel allowing this is part of a patriarchal erosion of women's (and children's rights). But the feeling of violation seems to be completely values/ideologically driven. It's a costume - a piece of leather - not exposed genetalia, or a nazi symbol being worn in a synagogue etc.

I have sex i just don't have sexual thoughts about strangers. People don't need some expert which are often full of crap to tell them that. That is bizarre.

so taking a child to Pride is abuse?

thankfully no one with any authority agrees.

You know very well that that is not what I said.

Here you are again with your blurring.

Do you think children should be exposed to or participate in porn? Or is it just BDSM and fetishes at Pride that are acceptable?

EezyOozy · 17/01/2023 12:01

@EastLondonObserver do you have children? Because they’re rights seem very academic to you.

I see no valid or justifiable reason to take children to Pride. It is weird. Most people take their kids to the zoo...

nilsmousehammer · 17/01/2023 12:02

Ah look another very tired tactic.

Take something unacceptable that involves making sexual use of others and shade it and shade it and then tell everyone 'well you're being silly and fussy because you can't prove that - therefore you can't gatekeep, therefore everything is ok'.

Benefits offenders. Those spending a hell of a lot of time and energy doing this are meeting their own needs in varying ways.

A quick read of any page of this thread shows that most people aren't falling for it and have no difficulty telling the difference.

Do you wear gimp masks a lot? 😂Do you wear one when dropping your kids off at school?

Nor do I, I think what ELO is trying to suggest is that we are all homophobic as well as prudes.

It's just complete nonsense to support ELO's men's sexual rights agenda.

Whether you have sex or not isn't the point, but that's great. The point is that you can speak for what is normal for you, but without a bit more information, probably not in a wider sense about what is "normal" for humans in general. Which is probably quite important if you're going to be making rules. I think.

GreenManalishi · 17/01/2023 12:05

@nilsmousehammer I'm still waiting for a bit of expansion on your blunt instrument gatekeeping, and what that might look like in IKEA on a Friday afternoon.

Turning up as a furry to ikea isn't normal according to any standard. I am not the only one to point that out...

justasking111 · 17/01/2023 12:08

I'd calmly go to security and lie, stating that the dog was rubbing his lipstick/erection against one of their cushions, or whatever you feel is suitable for the occasion

what's wrong with taking them to Pride?

sillybillyboo1 · 17/01/2023 12:10

Also as a few people have pointed out, it isn't so much about a single instance it is about why it is happening on a wider level and what that means. Maybe a sex offender specialist would be well equipped to explain.

The same reason i dont tale mine to strip clubs. It doesnt benefit them isnt aimed at them. So things I take my child to -childs parks, childrens zoo, museums, national trust.

eh? all genders and non-binary people are present at Pride. have you ever been?

I never use bystanders in my sexual toughts, that doesnt sound normal.

I was referring to this. You stated here that because you never use bystanders in your sexual thoughts, it is abnormal.

I'm suggesting that because you don't do something, it doesn't make it abnormal, and if you did want to gather a bit more information on the subject, because we can't learn any less, then it's out there. But maybe you'd rather not know. That's fine too, but your experience is not everyones.

All the young guests will see is some fun grown-ups dressed as dogs etc.

Rubbish. They gimps aren't cute dogs. They look weird.

So the young guests will see some weirdly dressed people, some of whom look a bit like dogs. Still nothing to be clutching pearls about.

There are only 2 genders. Man or woman. Lile I said, queer theory is not good for you. Non binary. That's a literal joke.

Isn't it an all day party in a city? Nope, wouldn't take my children on a day out like that. I would get a babysitter and have an adult day.
