To wonder why Spurs are playing so poorly??

Have been following them for a good few years now, as most of my family and friends are Spurs supporters, and then properly started supporting them myself.

They’ve got excellent world-class players (including recent World Cup winners, like Lloris and Romero), and they’re mostly always in the top 10 clubs in the Premier League.

They never actually seem to win anything though! They’re clearly a very good team, but they’re not a great team. I was following the Spurs-Arsenal game today, and while it’s true that Arsenal are untouchable at the moment and streets ahead of any other teams, it was gutting to see how Spurs were doing (I did feel awful for Lloris after his own goal).

What’s the issue? Is it an issue with their managers or is it the players? I’m sure it’s quite complex, with lots of factors at play, but it’s so frustrating as a fan, isn’t it.

I haven’t seen the game, or read any comments. Only the score and the times of the goals. Now that is Spursy.

Oh dear...

Can I just ask why you've come back to do this post? How old are you? I find it so odd to have the motivation to do this - the hilarious bantz with total strangers. Like what is your end goal for being on this thread?

The problem with Spurs is ENIC and Levy. They see Spurs as a money-making operation and nothing else. THFC is now an entertainment corporation and not a football club. There may be a new stadium and training ground etc but all of these are being paid for by the club, not ENIC. Record profits are being recorded and we are one of the richest clubs in Europe, yet funds are not invested on the pitch. Poch talked of a painful rebuild, and wasn’t backed. Players like Sanchez, Royal, Docherty and Sessegnon clearly not good enough but year on year they aren’t replaced with better quality. Lloris is past it now but has never had competition for his place. Levy employed Conte knowing his preferred formation that he has been successful and won trophies with, but won’t give him the funds to buy the players he wants for his formation.
Long and short of it is - Levy and RNIC need to go.

Why post this in AIBU? Should be in Sports. If a fan of only a few years then you don't have any depth do you? Dh been a spurs fan for 40+ years. Spurs do this. Not normally as badly as this. There are many reasons. It's complicated. If you know anything about football you'd know this. Conte is not Potch. Kane? and Son is off form? Loris often does mistakes. Arsenal are playing well. But not last season - they aren't in the champions league. Chelsea and Liverpool aren't doing as well this season. Newcastle are, but they now have Eddie and new money. These things are complicated.

There’s only been two really snippy posts on this largely measured and good natured thread @IsabelleSE19 and they’ve both been from you. What’s your motivation for that?

and if every thread on mn had to have an end goal the place would be empty!

Are the Thread Police related to the Celebration Police?

Are you Richard Keys by any chance?

There have been loads of wind up merchants on here - read the thread! My motivation is partly that it would have been nice to have a genuine discussion thread about my club without half the posts being from Goons, and partly that I genuinely wonder why people enjoy winding other people up - strangers on the internet! Seems more like a teenage boys' WhatsApp group!

It was a genuine question Eboue but well done you are extremely hilarious

MalteserGeezee · 20/01/2023 08:38

Two words: Hugo Lloris

BitOutOfPractice · 20/01/2023 08:38

I’ve read it. And contributed several times. Including having a small dust up with a Man City fan. But only you have steamed in twice, three times now, in a right strop.

and of course everyone on MN is “a complete stranger”! That’s the whole point!

if you only want to talk to spurs fans, join a spurs forum. There’s millions of them.

I just feel bad for the OP, who did not start this thread with the post 'Please insert your well-worn Spurs jokes below.'

Nice to see the Spurs fans with genuine insights though so that's a positive!

Yes, it's such a shame, but we can't keep making these kind of mistakes. Obviously there are loads coming from all over the pitch but his are rather crucial! It's so tricky with goalkeepers, as dropping them is so obvious and must really knock their confidence even more 😢

Spot on. It's ridiculous we keep hiring these great managers and then scapegoating them when they don't work miracles with mediocre players. I don't agree with all Conte's decisions but if he goes that's just part of a very depressing pattern, doomed to repeat over and over until something else changes.

DashboardConfessional · 20/01/2023 09:07

Managers need time and money. We have won everything with Klopp but on his first year we finished 8th and lost the Europa and League Cup finals. Chelsea would have sacked him.

SamanthaCaine · 20/01/2023 09:22

Newrumpus · 16/01/2023 23:07

Ignorant post

Totally. It's just Kane that continually falls over and cheats Wink

Great to see so many Gooners on MN though. Didn't realise we were so abundant!

But back to Spurs, has anyone mentioned Levy yet? I think he has a lot to do with their lack of success. It wasn't long ago that he was going through managers like crazy (10 in 12 years or something like that).

Personally I think they have good enough players, or have had. You can see how many players have gone on to do well at other clubs, so they've had talent but have not had the right environment to make the most of it. They should have persevered with Pochettino and supported him properly. But now they have a great manager who doesn't fit the club.

As an aside, I'm enjoying ExpressionsOozing on YouTube GrinWink

SamanthaCaine · 20/01/2023 09:33

Just to add, I don't get much pleasure from seeing Spurs in trouble and would've been great if they'd beaten Citeh last night.

But Expressions is hilarious Grin

Yes, and I think a sub-problem is that I'm not convinced our managers are allowed to spend the money they do get how they want - sometimes players may be foisted on them by ENIC bargain-hunting?

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 20/01/2023 20:57

Oh dear again

Tottenham’s sporting director, Fábio Patarici, has been suspended for 2 and 1/2 years after being found guilty in the Juventus investigation...
