Curious about Harry / Meghan threads

Why is it that the (very personal) threads about Harry and Meghan are left up but when anyone starts a thread to slate other public figures, the threads are taken down for being ‘not in the spirit’ or whatever? Why is this not hypocritical?

No one?

I am aghast at the venom directed towards these two. Given that there is an actual predator in the Royal family, looking at you Andrew, why the fuck are people so bothered about Harry and Megan?

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/01/2023 13:46

The Netflix Show, the Tom Bradby interview, the book - H&M want to be talked about. They have invited the comments. If HQ took down all the threads there would be more threads popping up all over the place - like Whack-a-mole.

It will die down in a few weeks, don't worry.

What I don't understand is the level of some of the anger and bitterness towards people most don't know and never will. No boundaries or it seems levels of awareness as to how crazy it all seems to those of us reading who are not invested. I originally started reading the threads for amusement but now read them to see how low people can go with their insults and hysteria. I do sometimes wonder if their behaviour on here is reflected in their daily lives. The pile on when some small insignificant detail appears to have been found, reply after reply all trying to outdo each other is bizarre. I have this mental picture of some sitting with phone, tablet or whatever in hand constantly refreshing the pages waiting to respond.
Why are Mumsnet allowing it? For the hits? One thing for sure all the hand wringing and crocodile tears following #bekind has long been forgotten. Now Andrew..

It's crazy and there was a thread a few days ago going after her Mother and another one about the children
Utter Madness

TheKeatingFive · 14/01/2023 14:11

It depends on the individuals. Some celebs threaten legal action immediately. H&M don't seem to do that.

Streamside · 14/01/2023 14:12

I'm more than halfway through the book on Audible and it's so boring. Harry's having the last laugh, interesting when you think Diana presumably didn't profit financially from the books she contributed to at all.

Travis1 · 14/01/2023 14:12

The people involved in these threads clearly have issues. The level of venom is unreal. You’d think Harry and Meghan had took a shit in their kettle the way some of them go on

People's relationship with the monarchy is batshit

VladmirsPoutine · 14/01/2023 14:13

The level of vitriol on those threads cannot be described by the word unhinged. I can't even think of a suitable enough adjective.

DerangedViper · 14/01/2023 14:15

False premise

Lots of threads about other figures in the public eye still stand.

Numerous ones about H&M have been deleted

It's not about who the person is. It's about what people are saying about them.

Repetition of horrible rumours from the bottom feeders of the internet is very likely to be deleted. As are more private family issues (eg fine to slag off David Cameron for his politics and performance, not fine to use his now-deceased son as a pawn in that)

toomuchlaundry · 14/01/2023 14:15

There were many threads on RF section from ardent H&M fans before the book fuss, some of them could quite easily have fulfilled the deranged criteria!

You need to report the posts which toy think have crossed the line.

Remember that Justine said publicly that over 90% is unproblematic

Indeed they seem to think they know them personally and act outraged at Harry and Meghan, speaking out as though they are speaking about posters actual family members, not their own it's madness .

Agree!

Theunamedcat · 14/01/2023 14:22

They are factual for the most part the discussion over the royal penis was in his book likewise the losing the virginity story him killing people arguments with his family disablest statements he put it ALL out there himself

So why would they delete what is true?

Lifesyoungdream · 14/01/2023 14:24

I was trying to imagine what some of the people who post real hatred towards Harry and Megan are like irl. I’m appalled at what gets posted on the Royal Family threads.
I hope some of people posting take a long hard look at themselves.
You should be ashamed.

Everyone goes mad one way or another about these online, but I don't know anyone in real life who actually really cares about any of this

Glumgal · 14/01/2023 14:30

I don't understand the vitriol towards them either, but the thing that really astounds me are the comments on all the false jokey/satirical quotes/memes that are all over social media atm. The amount of batshit people who think these are actual quotes from Harry's book and go off on one about it is absolutely crazy.

Manicpixidreamgirl · 14/01/2023 14:32

I’m not talking about deleting factual information. I’m talking about threads that invite the following responses…

“He comes across as thick as mince”

“He has no awareness of boundaries. At all. What a pillock.”

“If anyones kids need help, it's Harry's. A father that delusional and bitter, I feel sorry for his kids.”

“If Harry hadn't been the spare and the privilege of being born into that family he'd have been fortunate to hold down a job in McDonald's, quite frankly. He'd still be the same whining baby too, and nothing would have been his fault”.

These are just from the first two pages on one thread… I couldn’t bear to read the rest. Is it not bullying?

ShellsPebbles · 14/01/2023 14:32

I think with some people it’s because it has hit a nerve. I think a lot of the people who are vile about them have probably treated a family member similarly to how Harry and Meghan feel they have been treated (but about different things). They likely have an ostracised family member within their own families. Most people read things about them and move on with their lives. People who are overly invested I think it’s hit a nerve. Probably terrified that Harry will inspire their bullied/hurt family member to start talking.

Because it's not lots of posters start threads about something and they haven't actually read the book just bits in the paper ,which is always out of context and sensationalist ,
Plus some posters are looking to.be offended whatever Harry and Meghan do or say ,

roundtable · 14/01/2023 14:37

I just clicked on the dear Harry thread. Had to click off. Deranged rantings. Bizarre.

It's like Stan for the middle class. Imagine being that bothered about someone you don't know. Really weird.

Lifesyoungdream · 14/01/2023 14:42

I always say if you are happy and content in your own life you are not really bothered what other people get up to in their life.
I must presume then that a lot of people on Mumsnet are leading unhappy lives.
