Can you do this with your head?!

Lighthearted 🤗

can you do this?!

Feel your head, start at the top / the highest part of your skull and run your head along the back of your skull towards your neck. Do you have a big vertical groove down the back of your skull?

I have it and presumed everyone else had it too- but on speaking to my friends and mentioning it casually I realised that in fact, not everyone seems to have this!

It’s quite deep, not sure how deep but I can physically feel the skull curving round for my head and then it suddenly drops down into the groove/dip and it runs along the back of my head vertically! It’s probably 5 inches but it’s hard to measure and you can physically run your finger along it inside the dip

who else has a dented skull?! There must be more of us?!

Nope just checked!

barelyfunctional · 11/01/2023 22:11

I have a groove running ear to ear over the top of my head. I assume it’s to do with the plates of my skull fusing wonky when I was a baby

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 11/01/2023 22:13

I've got a dip about 2 inches from the top of my head, it runs horizontally for about an inch and is as wide as my finger.

Hellocatshome · 11/01/2023 22:14

Yes I've got one, I have previously shaved my head and it wasn't visible but now I've felt for it it is there. Not really deep but definitely an indent.

ThreeLittleDots · 11/01/2023 22:15

I can still feel my frontal sutre running down the middle of my forehead. Most can't.

Borris · 11/01/2023 22:17

I have a flat/slightly concave bit about 5cm diameter, high up at the back in the middle

So do I, right on the crown.

I've got a grove on the back of my neck up to the bit where your skull bulges out at the back - is that what you're talking about OP? Is it not just the muscles that hold your head on? (technical term there Grin)

Annoyingwurringnoise · 11/01/2023 22:30

Are you a dog OP?

Haha, I know what you mean, no it’s not that though- it starts up at the very top of my head and goes down towards my neck- I just googled it and it’s exactly where the saggital suture runs. It’s honestly like a trench haha I can feel where my skull just comes to an end and then it’s down into the groove

Haha! last time I checked I wasn’t

Ah, OK - not what I'm feeling then!!

For science I just felt my cat's head. He also does not have a groove.

Haha that made me laugh. I checked my dogs and he doesn’t have it either! Must be us strange humans!

I honestly thought everyone else just had this! It would be cool to see the trench/groove looks on an X-ray or photo under my hair!

I've got a dent in my skull. My mother must have dropped me on my head when I was a baby 😂. If I was bald I'd probably look like an alien.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 12/01/2023 20:20

@ThreeLittleDots I can feel mine too, it's slightly off centre.

Sorry op, can't feel a dent down the back of my skull, but I do have a slight lump in the top of my head and a dip right behind it. I've always assumed that's where the soft spot used to be!

QueenOfThorns · 12/01/2023 20:22

Nope. I have the flat bit that a couple of PP have mentioned, though!

QforCucumber · 12/01/2023 20:25

I have one down my forehead, it becomes more prominent when I’m dehydrated

Keyansier · 12/01/2023 20:25

Yes, I can do this and it's called something specific but I can't remember the name now.

Keyansier · 12/01/2023 20:25

Ignore me, I thought you were talkimg about something else 😂

yorkshirepudsx · 12/01/2023 20:30

On the back of my skull I have a lump. Probably the size of a large grape??

I always thought everybody had one then realised that it was just me lol

It's been looked at by doctors etc, and I've had scans and X-rays lol. It's extra bone, they don't know why it's there but it's there!
Sometimes it gets sore but it's rare, but if it starts to annoy me, they've just said to go back and I can have surgery booked to remove it

But I genuinely thought everybody had one 🤣🤣🤣

Me too. Did everybody not have one then?
I also have the line running down the front of my fod mentioned above

TeeHeeQuodSheAndClaptTheWindowTo · 12/01/2023 21:08

As someone who has handled a lot of human bone, I can reassure you all that the variety of differences in skulls is huge, and you’re all within the realms of normal. It’s fascinating, though!

vipersnest1 · 12/01/2023 21:11

I have a 'valley' in the bone on my left hand widow's hand peak, thanks to a very lovely not boy who threw a massive piece of flint at me....

yorkshirepudsx · 12/01/2023 21:12

@Redhop I forgot about calling them Fod's!!! I have the line down my fod too hahah, glad it's not just me with a lumpy head though.

Hope I never go bald, bet my head looks like one of those bumpy potatoes

Please tell me more about your bone handling experience as I am very intrigued
